Books, Screens, and In-Betweens

I am linking up with Deb at Readerbuzz,  Kathryn at Book Date, and  Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Hello everyone! Happy Mother’s Day to all the nurturers out there! Boy moms, girl moms, crunchy moms, butter moms, 90s moms, 80s moms, pet moms, mom moms, special needs moms, grieving moms, stepmoms, Foster moms. Just all the moms. I wish you a day that has some joy and wonder in it.

Books:

I have to admit, I was sulkily ignoring books last week waiting for my library hold. I didn’t want to start something in case it came in. Lol. I did absolutely devour one book though, This Story Might Save Your Life. I read it in record time! Then I waited and waited. And my book finally came in yesterday, and I was able to read a few pages before bed.

Why I wanted to read Three Bags Full so baaaa-dly I have no idea. (Sorry guys, I am a dad jokes kind of mom). But I did. And I am enjoying it so far, at least the few pages I have read. Plus now I have all my super duper sheep knowledge from reading The Sheep’s Tale by John Lewis-Stempel so I can check for accuracy. (kidding, I already knew sheep couldn’t talk.)

Once I finish Three Bags Full, I have a whole new stack of library books to choose from! I honestly don’t know which to pick. I am thinking it will be one of these two.

I also won three books from Lisa Loves Literature!! I am so excited about them, especially The Faraway Inn which I have also been pining over.

I am listening to a book too! I revived my NetGalley account and I am listening to A Brewed Awakening by Pepper Basham.

Screens:

Yay for a new season of Brokenwood! It is one of my top favorite shows and Billy and I have been watching it this week. That first episode took me out, it was so good. We are also watching Beyond Paradise. I love how Martha dresses. It must be the overalls. Although I will say I miss her restaurant’s old location. The new one just feels too blah.

Billy and I also watched Anaconda starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd last night. I love Jack Black, he loves Paul Rudd. It was perfectly ridiculous and silly and cheesy, as it was meant to be, and we both absolutely loved it. And Thandiwe Newton did a great job too. We had not seen her in such a silly comedic role before and she did awesome.

In-Betweens:

It’s just been a normal old week around here, living life. School and appointments, the kittens got their final shots that they needed and they were perfect, we went to the library, Wyatt had Little League. Just regular everyday things. But it was a pretty good week.

The library made some changes, including a whole renovation in the “new” addition that was built in the 70s. However, they made some changes to the maker room as well, including a low table with chairs when before they were super high tables with stools, which Wyatt was unable to access. He can now play in the makers room with no problems! We hung out in there the other day, and he looked so tiny sitting at the table. I love that room though. It is so bright, there are plants and crafts. It is just so cozy!

Top Ten Tuesday: Authors I wish Were Still Writing Today

And just a reminder:

Lisa of Boondock Ramblings and I host a monthly bookish link party called A Good Book and A Cup of Tea.  This link-up is for book and reading posts or anything related to books and reading (even movies based on books!). Each link party will be open for a month. You can find that link up for this month here.

And with that, I will end here today! I hope that you all do something today that makes you smile!

  1. I love your joke! It wasn’t baaaad at all! Lol, it’s literally my type of humour as well hahahaa.
You’ve chosen books with such lovely covers! I haven’t watched Anaconda but it looks like a ton of fun. I love Jack Black and Paul Rudd, what’s not to like? Love a good cheese sesh.

    Have a great week!

  2. I love dad jokes as well, lol. I want to see the sheep detective movie, so love that you are reading those books! I know what you mean about waiting on a book. Usually it is an audiobook from the library for me. I also LOVE that the library made it so Wyatt could use the maker’s space! As a librarian I want libraries to be as accessible to everyone as possible, not to mention have something for everyone there! How to Lose a Goblin and Poison is Not Polite both have great covers! Hope you have a good week!

    1. I want to see it too! Lol. It looks so cute.

Yes! They love Wyatt at our library, and I think it bothered them that he couldn’t use it. Our library really works at being super inclusive with everything. 🙂 I hope you do as well!

  3. Look at me all up to date! I was waiting for local council election results and reading blogs on Friday and finally got caught up. What a lovely week and some very pretty books there. Happy (US) Mothers’ Day!

      1. It very much did not but at least we went Green so progressive in our one ward and stayed Liberal in the other. Sad to lose very good councillors though. Anyway, caught up!

  4. I’m going to need to look into getting audiobooks from NetGalley– I mostly just read books from them on my Kindle but our library availability for audiobooks is rather limited (or else I’m just reading/listening to them too fast). I keep running out of good things to listen to! In fact I listened to two books on each plane ride (to and from Utah) and really disliked one from each. It felt like such a waste of time to keep reading but mid-flight there really wasn’t much I could do to switch them out. Okay that sounds rather confusing but I listened to a full book, then we had a layover, I swapped books and enjoyed the second one… and pretty much the same in reverse on the way home.

    1. It is really hard to get audiobooks from our library too. It takes forever! That was one reason I revived my NetGalley account, to try the audiobooks out. Lol. I don’t listen to them that often so the library system was very frustrating to me. We used to have Hoopla, and that was awesome for getting audiobooks, but now they just have Libby.

  5. Since you first mentioned it, I keep thinking my pal lent me the first sheep crime (“Glenkill” in German) , but I don’t seem to remember finishing it? Mind you, that was really many years ago as the book is 20 years old, so who knows. Have fun with it!

  6. I hope that Three Bags Full turns out to be really good. It’s great that the maker room is more accessible. I just bought two pairs of overalls for summer—I guess I’m fashionable and didn’t even know it!

  7. Happy Mother’s Day! I am reading a Philippa Gregory book about Jane Boleyn, George’s wife. It’s a totally different take on what I’ve always read about her. We are still watching Grimm and will be for several weeks, I think. I am crocheting a sweater! I just have to make the sleeves and then try to figure out if I like it or not. I may not in which case, I’ll just unravel it and make a granny square one! I’m just so proud of myself for sticking to it! I hope you have a beautiful week, Erin!

    1. I hope you had a great day yesterday Marsha!!

Ooo that book sounds fantastic!! I I don’t think I know much about Jane Boleyn!

I loved Grimm. I miss that show sometimes. Billy and I loved how bad of detectives he and his partner were, and we absolutely loved Monroe and Rosalee. I would have been down for a show just with them.

I am excited to see your sweater! I think you should definitely be proud! I hope that you have a wonderful week as well my friend!

  8. What a great post. It’s good to catch up on life and see what folks who live far from me are doing. I have also waited on starting a book when my library has one I Reallllly want to read coming in.

If you like Jack Black have you ever watched High Fidelity? Long time ago I read this post called Read it Before You Watch It and the book High Fidelity by Nick Hornsby came up. As we like music and remember the days of old with record stores, I looked to see if our ibrary had either the book or movie. We liked the movoe enough to buy it. Jack Black was a bit obnoxious but wait for it…he can sing so well.

  9. I probably said this before but you’re definitely tempting me to reread Three Bags Full. And there’s a sequel, I should look out for that!

I have his Story Might Save Your Life on hold at my library so I’m happy that you loved it! What a beautiful library room. I need to watch Anaconda. It sound like my kind of funny!

  11. I am so glad your book finally arrived. Glad Brokenwood and Beyond Paradise have returned too. So nice that the library made that space accessible to Wyatt.
