Hello all! Wyatt and I eased back into our normal post-Covid lives last week after our time was up, and it was nice to get back in the world. The library was one of our first stops, and of course Wyatt resuming therapy was on the list as well. Then yesterday we went to a local county fair and had so much fun, despite melting from the heat.

I also have a question for you, fellow book lovers. Have you ever ordered from Thrift Books or Abe’s Books? I am thinking about placing an order with one of them and I would love to hear some opinions on the two. Thanks!

Read Last Week:

I was able to finally get some reading time in last week, and finished this one up. I really enjoyed it! It was a bit slow for me at times but I still enjoyed the characters and the mystery. I am looking forward to reading the next one in the series!

Reading This Week:

I have always wanted to read Willa of the Wood and I am finally going to do it. I also had started Wild is the Witch and honestly, I can’t remember if I finished it! I need to do a review of it for NetGalley so I am going to reread it. It somehow got lost in the shuffle!

Posted Last Week:

Kid’s Bedroom Inspiration: Nature and the Outdoors

The Wednesday Hodgepodge

Classic Movie Impressions: To Catch a Thief

Hello, August!

Watching and Listening:

Billy and I binged the newest season of Brokenwood Mysteries on Acorn this past week. I am so bummed out now that we are done and have to wait all over again for more episodes! This series is such fun. We started season 2 of Only Murders in the Building last night though, and that helped couch the sadness of missing Brokenwood. Lol. OMITB cracks me up. It is such a great show.

As for listening, I am listening to a podcast called The Night Owl Podcast, which is a bit scary and spooky. I guess even thought we are in August, I am already leaning into fall which will be here before we know it.

That’s about it from my corner of Michigan! What about you all?

  1. I’m glad you and Wyatt are able to get out again, post-Covid. The library would be one of my first stops, too.

I’m pretty sure I’ve bought from AbeBooks and Thrift Books. I seem to have accounts at both of those places. lol

Willa of the Wood looks really good. The idea behind it reminds me of A Girl of the Limberlost.

I hope you have a great week, Erin!

  2. I have never used AbeBooks but have bought frequently from Thriftbooks. The few times they have screwed up and sent me something other as advertised they have been great about refunds or replacing. One time I received the wrong DVD. They told me to toss it or keep it and refunded me. Or maybe that was a credit, can’t remember.

I know I have gotten great deals on cookbooks and novels and have been happy. Hope that helps.

  3. I have not ordered from either of those, sadly. Good luck- I hope they go well. I haven’t heard anything bad, if that helps. 🙂 Glad to hear you are past the Covid. That’s always a relief!

I love that cover of the Khavari book. And I need to get acorn- I think I’d love all the brit mysteries.

I am SO ready for fall and all the spookiness!

  4. A Botanist’s guide to parties and poisons seems good. Love the cover.

Glad you guys are out and about again, just take care of yourselves! I just read your review for To Catch a Thief, I don’t think I’ve ever seen it. But it does seem really good.

Have a good week and thanks for visiting us!

  5. Glad you and Wyatt are back to normal life again. I’m sure it felt great to be out and about once more! I haven’t ordered from either place, but have been tempted by both… interesting to read about other readers experience in the comments. Hope you have a good week, Erin!

  6. So glad you two are getting back into the swing of life. I’ve heard good things about Thrift but no experience. I’ve ordered from Abe’s but it’s not a good judge. It was an out of print family history book that was clearly reprinted (in two volumes) with HUGE type font and arrived from India. For “regular” books I’m sure they’re fine. And I was glad to have this one — just not what I expected!

  7. I get books from both Abebooks and Thrift! I order a lot of books via Amazon resellers and Thrift Books is one that seems to come up often. Abebooks is my go-to if I I’m having trouble finding an obscure title for a decent price AND if you have a Rakuten account, they are a Rakuten member so, cheap prices and cash back. Woo hoo!

Congrats on being COVID free and back out in the world!

  8. I don’t buy books as a rule because I rarely reread them. I just finished Holy Hot Mess by Mary Katherine Backstrom. I loved it! I also sped through four YA graphic novels…Heartstopper 1-4. I got kind of hooked on the story line and just read them one after the other. We finished Blown Away (a glass blowing competition show on Netflix) and are catching up on The Blacklist. We started watching Only Murders and got side tracked. I think we need to start all over on the first episode to remember what’s going on!

I’m so glad both you and Wyatt are feeling back to your old selves. I imagine those first days of freedom were amazing!

  9. Yay for being out post-Covid and the library sounds like the perfect first stop. Brokenwood sounds like a show I would love. I have Only Murders in the Building on my To Watch list. I hope you have a wonderful week!

    1. It was the place I couldn’t wait to get back to about 5 days in. Lol. We were only sick for about 3 but wanted to wait the whole ten before going anywhere. 🙂

Only Murders in the Building is fantastic! And I think you would enjoy Brokenwood too!
