Hey all!
After a few weeks of playing around and having fun, I spent this past week trying to catch up on work. I had so much just “house business” to do – all those fun things like cleaning, making appointments, accumulated paperwork that I needed to fill out, just all the odds and ends of living. Wyatt is now going to therapy again twice a week, and in August that bumps up to three times a week (PT, OT, and speech) and he is also taking swim lessons on Fridays. This week we both also have doctor’s appointments so this week will also be full. Then hopefully, we will have a return to our normalish schedule. I am looking forward to it!
Reading:
I finished up Hotel Paradise, which was just as good as I remembered it. Martha Grimes is a beautiful writer. I also started Wildwood Whispers by Willa Reece and I am loving it! It takes me FOR-EV-ER to finish a book these days just due to life, but I read it absolutely every second I can. It is so good – full of magic and nature and community.

Watching and Listening:
Billy and I have almost finished up Stranger Things – we just have the epically long finale left. 2.5 hours! Why!? We also have been trying to catch as much of the Tour as we can. Billy has watched the Tour de France for years and years but I only started watching about 10 years ago. We usually only end up watching the highlights these days but it is still fascinating and exciting to us. I feel sort of blah about it this year, as my favorite rider Mikel Landa is not participating this time.
We also watched our classic movie suggestion from Lisa at Boondock Ramblings – The Thin Man starring William Powell and Myrna Loy. My impressions post will be up Wednesday for those who are interested!
We are listening to a lot of Kate Bush around here lately – she has experienced a resurgence thanks to Stranger Things. I somehow missed her while I was growing up in the 80s. I was too busy listening to Madonna and Michael Jackson back then I guess. I still find myself commanding my Alexa to play Lord Huron, Tom Petty, and 70s Classic Folk a lot though.
Posted Last Week:
Mini-Getaway – about our stay in a tiny house on a farm
Mini-Getaway – Days Two and Three
Amazon Prime Day Deals I Love – (although Prime Day is over)
Things That Made Me Smile Thursday
And that is about it from my little corner of the Mitten State! I hope all is well with you!
I’ve previously heard good things about Wildwood Whispers so will look to add it to my TBR.

I am a little over halfway through and I am really enjoying it. 🙂

I have so much house stuff to do, but I really want to be reading instead. 🙂 Enjoy the finale! It sounds so long, but we loved it.

Oh my gosh that finale!!! It was so good. I definitely totally cried too.
And I would much prefer to be reading too!

Oh, I do bemoan how much time appointments take away from fun! I have a dental appointment tomorrow, which means grabbing a Lyft, since I don’t have regular transportation. And last week, it was a doctor appointment. I try to reward myself afterwards, with a lunch or dinner out, LOL.
I am impressed by how organized you are. Have a great week!

Yes! I am so bummed that we have these appts. They are necessary but, ugh. I love that you reward yourself! What a good idea!
And thanks lol!

I feel as if this whole year has been slow reading for me so far. But hopefully my mojo is creeping back a bit.
Remember you talking about Hotel Paradise a few weeks ago and it actually caught my eye then as well! Will definitely take a look.
Have a good week ahead!

Mine has been too. Just super slow reading.
It was really good! And it is the first of four in a series!

Wildwood Whispers had me with it’s beautiful title and cover. Thank you for sharing what seems like a tender, engrossing novel!

I’ve enjoyed Martha Grimes but mostly her Richard Jury series, which is narrated by my favorite narrator. The weeks where we have all the medical appts are just exhausting. I hope it’s a good week for you!

I have never read that series – I will have to try it!
And yes – I am so not looking forward to this week and it’s appts!

Housework is never fun. Those books look good. My parents are into Stranger Things, but I have never watched it. I don’t have the time to sit and concentrate on things like that these days.
Have a great week!

I try and split the main bulk over Sunday and Monday, but it can be flexible if we are busy!

I always like getting back to a normal schedule after hectic weeks! Wildwood Whispers looks good. The cover has me curious. And I’m trying to catch highlights of the Tour as well. I’m sort of becoming a cycling fan, although I think for me a lot of it is the scenery (during the last Olympics I spent an inordinate amount of time watching the racing ha). 🙂

Yes! I am already dreading this week, bleh.
I am loving Wildwood Whispers! It’s really good. And feels properly summer to me.
My husband loves all cycling! He watches all the races. I just watch the Tour – it is crazy to me how they ride all that way! If you ever get over to the east side of the state, Detroit has a velodrome you can ride in or watch races at. Not quite the tour but pretty neat!

I didn’t know that! That’s good to know. And yes I can’t believe how far they ride!!!!

I’m currently reading Lessons in Chemistry. It wasn’t at all what I thought it would be, but it’s the fastest book I’ve read this year! I am not a calendar-y type person at all. But, this year, I’ve had to force myself to be with the myriad of appointments Mike and I have had. And, no end in sight! We just finished Stranger Things. Did you think this season was just a wee bit different in feeling? It just seemed more violent and supernatural (I know…like a whole different world underneath the ground isn’t supernatural). I’m looking forward to the next season, but I’m already sad it’s ending. We always seem to watch really way out there shows! Enjoy your week!

Lessons in Chemistry sounds really good! And ugh, yes. I have a planner to track all of Wyatt’s comings and goings – and sometimes mine!
Stranger Things was definitely different feeling. It felt very 80s/90s horror movie to me and I compared it to Nightmare on Elm Street numerous times. And then the actor who played Freddy (Robert Englund) was even in it as Victor! It was a bit more violent I think as well. I totally cried at the final episode though. LOl.

I’m so frustrated about the Tour. Up north, no streaming thing I have carries it and no TV. Home, we have TV but none of my channels had it — well, until I found out just YESTERDAY that USA has it at 8 a.m. till noon — nothing in prime. So I saw some of that and will tomorrow and Wednesday before I head north again. Other than that, we follow on velo news and highlights online but it’s not the same….

It is 100% not the same to just watch bits and pieces. I miss just turning it on and leaving it on all day (well the few hours it is on). We have the Peacock App to watch it with. It’s ten dollars and we use it for the tour then cancel. Lol. You can stream the whole race! https://www.peacocktv.com I think you can do maybe the 4.99 version as well, but I am not sure!

I missed Amazon Prime Day this year. I hope I didn’t lose out on too many deals. It does sound like you are finding lots of ways to keep busy. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

I picked up a few things for Wyatt (and a tea strainer for myself lol) but nothing major. We are pretty busy around here right now. I am ready for another break. Lol.

I always intend to watch the Tour de France. This year I even downloaded an app to keep me updated on it. Sigh.
It sounds like you will have a busy week. Whew!
Stranger Things was recommended to us this week. And my husband and I are big fans of The Thin Man series. I hope you enjoyed it.

We did really enjoy The Thin Man!
Oh dear. Lol! It is hard to fit in honestly, it is so long! We just sort of watch the highlights now on the Peacock App.

I think reading and blogging force me to slow down and take a minute or two for myself. They are my refuge!

It has been far too long since I’ve read Martha Grimes. I need to pick up Hotel Paradise or start with her Richard Jury mysteries again. I used to love them. Looking forward to seeing what you thought of Thin Man. I enjoyed it when I watched it several years ago but I can also see it not working for everyone. Have a wonderful week!
