Hello everyone! I can’t believe that Halloween is Saturday! We have plans to trick or treat with Wyatt’s friends and then to go over to my brother’s for a bonfire later on to hang out with my nieces. Tomorrow is Wyatt’s “school” Halloween party with his buddies, and today we are going to make an apple cake to serve along with the other goodies!
Billy painted our whatever room last weekend, and I am so thankful. I’ve wanted it repainted for ages but it was one of those things that always got put on the back burner, you know how it is. Well we finally got around to it and I am in love with all the brightness and light. The purple was pretty but I had it for a very long time, and in the fall and winter, and even in the spring and summer, that room can be very dark, which made school in there difficult! Dinners would even seem too dark. We painted it Swiss Coffee which is my favorite shade right now, and even at night just using a small lamp, the room is so much brighter! Yay!
Some of you already saw this on Instagram, but I took a few pictures.

We did paint the baseboards, just last. And they weren’t done yet in that last photo. We weren’t sure what we wanted to do, get new ones or repaint. We decided to repaint because they get bashed constantly by our child in his wheelchair. Lol. Our doorways and baseboards all look crazy but he will get it one day. Max is also cracking me up in that photo. He looks like he does not approve of the change! And isn’t he so poofy and big now? I have a video of the room all put back together but I can’t figure out how to post it here. Here is the link to my Instagram post, maybe that will work.
A month or so ago, I mentioned I applied to the St. Andrews Society, which is a Scottish Heritage Society. Our family members, our elders, my mom and my aunt, my grandma, are gone and I want to keep Wyatt involved in the traditions that I was part of as a kid. I thought this would be a good way to help keep that spirit going. I was notified that I was accepted and our first meeting is Monday! I am nervous but also looking forward to it. And it is always good I think to have community in your life, and I try very hard to build that for Wyatt. We become regulars places, where people know him and he knows them, we have our Blackbirds group, baseball, my church, and now St. Andrews. It will just be good for him to know some of our cultural traditions.
I had to look up my Scottish ancestry to apply, and it had been a minute since I had played around with my genealogy. There was a DNA update, and it was neat. I learned that I am 25% Italian, and also have Cornish DNA. Just a smidge, but I told Billy that must be why I like to read about Cornwall. I was also a whopping 3% Bavarian. Billy’s update was really cool. He is New Zealand Maori, Hawaiian, Scottish and Irish, and Carpathian! Just like Dracula. LOL.
I have been soaking up all the Halloween that I can the past month, with the books I am reading, the movies we are watching, our crafts and decorations, and also YouTubers I watch. Wyatt is my little watching buddy at night while Billy is showering – Billy showers, and Wyatt and I pile onto the bed and watch a YouTube video then read one of his books. Wyatt is such a good kid, watching these book people with me. Lately we have been watching a lot of Rebecca’s Literary Wanderings. She just took an epic trip west, up into the Pacific NW, before heading back home somewhere on the East coast, and read books that matched her location along the way. She is a big seasonal and theme reader like me, and I enjoy her style.
We also have been watching Morgan Long. Her vlogs are always very cozy and positive.
It’s been a pretty quiet week as you can see. Lots of just moments at home, reading, hanging out, cooking/baking. I made butternut squash soup the other day and it was delicious, and I felt so proud I saved the seeds to plant in our garden in the spring. We got the squash at the orchard when we got our pumpkins, so I love that I know where the squash seeds came from. One year we had butternut squash that grew all down the alley along the fence, and our neighbors were harvesting and eating it as well. I hope our squash does that next year too! We are going to plant it along the fence again, so maybe!
And I think that is it for today guys. November is right around the corner, and our little house is starting to settle down. I hope that whatever you do today, you do something that makes you smile, even if it is just a small thing!
Congratulations on getting into St. Andrews! That’s so cool. I would like to do my DNA, but I think I’m probably a mutt. How cool Billy has some Carpathian and also Maori! Wow! His ancestors moved around! Have a wonderful Halloween weekend! Your cozy little home is just so lovely!

It’s amazing what a new paint job can do to a room.
