Today’s Prompt: Books with Nationalities in the Title
I actually had a hard time with this one. I ended up with a bunch of books where the nationality was mentioned in the subtitle but I went with it.
Meadowland: The Private Life of an English Field is one of my favorite books by John Lewis-Stempel. These are hard to find in the US, and my collection has been completely bought for me by my husband over several Christmas’.
Ghostland: An American History in Haunted Places by Colin Dickey was a fun read. I love to read ghost stories!!
A Buzz in the Meadow: The Natural History of a French Farm was an interesting read. You have to really be interested in insects though. Lol.
Mexican Gothic. Of course. I love this book.
The Little French Bistro. This book launched Brittany as the spot in France I most want to visit. The idea of an area that is sea salt air meets apple orchards sounds like perfection.
The Year of Living Danishly. If The Little French Bistro gave me a vacation spot, this book made me want to live somewhere else. Seriously, if I could, I would!
Bard: The Odyssey of the Irish by Morgan Llewlyn. I went through a huge phase where I read these books all the time. I loved them all, and my collection looks very well paged through.
When We Spoke to the Dead: How Ghosts Gave American Women Their Voice. I thought this book was so interesting! I can’t really tell you the reasons why anymore, but I did love it.
Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress. I have to be honest, I read this but I don’t remember much about this one either.
Finally, An Illustrated Treasury of Scottish Mythical Creatures. I read this with Wyatt a few years ago and it is awesome. I always meant to buy this for our home library and didn’t. I guess I need to rectify that one day.

I wish I hadn’t given away my copy of the Year of Living Danishly. Loved that book. And Little Paris Bistro too.
It really is such a good book. I checked it out from the library but I could reread it again probably.
What a fun list! I tend to think mine would have been filled with lots of Italy and France references… and perhaps some English as many of my books are set in those 3 countries. Though off the top of my head the only one I can think of is One Italian Summer; which I really didn’t even like that much!

I loved Ghostland! I think Ilise S. Carter’s book could go really well with Dickey’s novel since he also talks about the importance of séances in feminism. Thanks for sharing your list! 🙂
I thought I remembered it doing that but I wasn’t quite sure! I think that is such an interesting topic.
Mexican Gothic is a great addition! Each time I see that one, it looks so intriguing and pretty, but I’ve never read it. May be a sign I should take a second look at that one! Thanks for visiting my list today.

I tried to find book titles with Irish, Scottish, Norwegian, Spanish, Polish, Vietnamese, Australian, Canadian…nothing! You found some good ones.
This was a tough one. I felt better about my issues when I saw everyone pretty much was saying that. Lol.

Mexican Gothic is so good! And so was The Year of Living Danishly. That one was really interesting. It would be interesting to get your take, as you are also someone who has moved to a different country.
Ooh Ghostland sounds sick! It has been a long time since I went down he spooky path for a book. I have seen quite a few Mexican Gothic today, I just have not read it yet. Nice list 🙂

I’m doing a quick mental scan, and 90% of the books I’m remembering have to do with regions in France and/or Italy, and largely nonfiction foodie titles, LOL!
