Today’s Prompt: Titles that Contain the word ” your choice ”
I decided to just go with the word “summer” for this one. I mean, it is summer here where I am, and I have summer on the brain. Lol. I ended up searching my Goodreads titles of books I have read with the word summer in the title, and it turned out to be more than I had thought! Some of them are books I read a decade ago even which was kind of fun for me to revisit.
Summer in the South is one I read quite a while ago!! 2011, and I even reviewed it on my old blog, Quixotic Magpie!
Prodigal Summer is actually one I read every few years. I love this book. It is another one I reviewed on my old blog!
The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Seasons, Two Rabbits, and a Very Interesting Boy. Such a wonderful series. I love these books. The third one, The Penderwicks at Point Mouette is my favorite.
This One Summer is a graphic novel and I honestly don’t remember much about it. It is a coming of age story that takes place at the main character’s lake house.
Summer at Little Beach Street Bakery is the second in the series about Polly and Huck and Neil the puffin. I have to say my favorite character was probably the puffin, but I did also like the human characters. Lol.
Bloody Summer was part of the Trespass series that Kindle put out a few years ago. I read them all and this was one of my favorites in the collection. They were all short stories, and included stories by Silvia Moreno-Garcia and Stephen Graham Jones.
Two of these I just read, one I have read half of, and the other has been on my TBR for a while. Lol.
Lake of the Ozarks: My Surreal Summers in a Vanishing America just sounds so good! I am all about kitsch and cheesy campiness and nostalgia. I need to get to this one!
The Summer Book is a look at summer from a different view than Lake of the Ozarks. Simple and classic, a different sort of nostalgia. I have read half and while I want to finish it, this isn’t the year for it for me.
Deadly Summer Nights is a little cozy mystery set in the 1950s Catskills at a resort. I actually just read it, I was very excited about the setting although the mystery and story were just ok to me.
The Growing Summer is another that I just read. However, I loved this gentle vintage book about siblings sent to live with their great-aunt in Ireland for a few weeks.

Summer is a popular choice today. I have the Trespass book series on my KU list. There are so many of these short story collections that sound great. This Machado book looks really interest!
I saw there is a new one coming out soon, with Sarah Beth Durst and Heather Fawcett having stories in it. I am so excited! It’s called the Magic & Mystery collection.

I enjoyed Deadly Summer Nights for the setting too, and I just realized that I never read any of the other books in the series. Will need to check those out! 🙂

I haven’t read any of these books which is surprising! I started Blonde by Joyce Carol Oates and then saw it’s over 850 pages long on my iPad! I think I’ll check at the real library to get it. I’m ready to read winter books in the hopes of cooling off!!

Joyce Carol Oates is such a great writer but I burned myself out on her! I read like 5 of her books back to back once and I am pretty sure they put me in a very gray mood for a while! They were so well done though. Lol that is a good idea!!!

These look like fun books! The Growing Summer is one I want to read. Some of the others I probably wouldn’t read (you know me and dark stuff! Ha!) but there are others I would.

I’m pretty sure Prodigal Summer has been on my TBR for years, so I’m glad to hear that you love it! Someday, I will read all of Barbara Kingsolver’s books.
I have only read Prodigal Summer and The Poisonwood Bible but they were both so good.
Surprisingly, I haven’t read any of these! I will hopefully read the Barbara Kingsolver one day, trying to get to all her books.

I can’t believe I haven’t heard of Bloody Summer. I’ve loved Carmen Maria Machado’s books.

The best book I’ve read recently with the word “summer” is String Too Short to Be Saved: Recollections of Summers on a New England Farm. It’s a wonderful memoir by the poet Donald Hall.
That book sounds like it is right up my alley!
I have been meaning to read The Prodigal Summer for years! I love that you reread it every few years, that’s such a testament to a good book.

Hello Erin! I found your blog through a comment you left on Cat’s Wire. It’s nice to “meet” you. When I read on your About page, “I try to create a culture of celebration in our home” it resonated with me, as I chose the word Celebrate for my word of the year. It’s surprising how many books you’ve read with the word “Summer” in the title without really even trying. Now I’m curious to look back on books I’ve read and see if the same thing holds true. Hi Christie!! Thanks for stopping by!!! What a great word to start the year with. I try really hard to just make small celebrations in our lives. Like the other day my son and I baked blackberry bread and then later that evening he and I and my husband/his dad went out to eat our bread, have lemonade, and watch for fireflies. I made a big deal of it, and it just felt like a firefly party.
