Books, Screens, and In-Betweens

I am linking up with Deb at Readerbuzz,  Kathryn at Book Date, and  Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Hello everyone! I hope that you are all doing well! Wyatt and I are one week into our six week break from school and it has been lovely. We had some lazy days, some fun outings, and also I managed to do some major cleaning and re-organizing I have been wanting to do. I also am zhuzhing up our art cabinet this weekend. I painted it a color that makes my heart feel happy, and then today Billy is adding a cute contact paper to the back of it, and I can’t wait. We also have my bestie’s oldest daughter’s graduation party today. I can’t wait to celebrate this very accomplished graduate! She graduated in the top ten of her class, is a star athlete, and was also prom queen. I am excited to see what she does next!

Books:

I forgot to post last Sunday, so I will add last week’s books as well.

I finished two books.

The League of Lady Poisoners was really fascinating. It combined a lot of history and context to some of the women’s stories written about here. I also love the artwork by Lisa Perrin!

I finished up Dungeon Crawler Carl as well, and I LOVED it. Billy was right. And I love Princess Donut. She is awesome.

I nearing the end of my current read, and I am poised to begin my next.

Deadly Summer Nights has been ok. It is not as good as I had hoped it would be, but I don’t dislike it enough to dnf. I feel like it has potential though as a series, so if there is a second I will probably put it on my list.

I am very excited to read Yesteryear! I almost never read books that are being talked about and are “hot” at the time that they are, but I managed to snag this one from Book of the Month so here I am, right in the middle of things.

Screens:

Billy and I are obsessed with Widow’s Bay. I love these kind of coastal thrillers during summer, and this one is so perfect. It is quirky, creepy, but also tempered with humor. We will watch the last episode tonight or tomorrow night and I will be so bummed out that we will be done. I am not sure what we will watch next, maybe Dark Winds.

I also mentioned in a post last week that we are hoping to keep watching 80s/90s movies this summer. Old favorites like Now and Then, The Sandlot, Holes, etc. It’s time Wyatt watched these oldies but goodies. We have already watched Matilda and Little Shop of Horrors (Rick Moranis version).

Oh and Billy got us a game to play as a family. It is super nerdy but we are all nerds in our house so it is ok. It is called Librarian, and you straighten up the library. That is it, that is the game. It is $5.99 on Steam if anyone is interested.

Last week I posted a few times too.

And just a reminder: Lisa of Boondock Ramblings and I host a monthly bookish link party called A Good Book and A Cup of Tea.  This link-up is for book and reading posts or anything related to books and reading (even movies based on books!). Each link party will be open for a month. You can find that link up for this month here.

In-Betweens:

This post is getting long so I will keep this part short. I will just tell a little story about baseball yesterday. It was Wyatt’s last game, and I had a lot of family show up to support him. My aunt, cousin, my cousin’s son, Devin, Chrissy, and the girls. We were all hanging out on the bleachers, and a woman sat near us. We all started chatting together about how much we love watching all the kids play, and she said she felt like she was on the wrong side, because her grandson played on the other team. I assured her it was fine of course, we cheer for all the kids on both teams. She said that she did as well, and that besides her grandson, her favorite player to watch is the boy in the wheelchair. Lol. I told her that boy is my son and we had a laugh! She said she just gets a kick out of watching his joy as he and Billy run around the bases. It was just a cute little moment.

We also got his pictures and I will probably share them all because that is me, but here is the cute little buddy pic they had done. This is Wyatt and his buddies. I love it! I also love that his friend Z. colored a picture to look like the three of them. I loved it so much I turned it into stickers for the kids, and moms.

And that is it for now! I hope that whatever you do today, you do something that makes you smile!

  1. That’s a great story about the baseball game! I love that. You had a busy week.
Hope you like YesterYear. I found it interesting in a creepy way.

Now I need to check out Widow’s Bay.

    1. It was! It was really a crazy week. I am ready for a slower one….

I am 100 pages in. I am curious about where it goes!

Widow’s Bay is so good! Tonight (I think) is the last episode of the season and I will be bummed.

  2. Oh my gosh, the colored picture is so cute! I love that whole story! So glad Wyatt gets to go do those things with his friends. Great movies to watch, especially Little Shop of Horrors! Will you watch Goonies too? Loved that one as a kid. Also, I’m so excited to find another Dungeon Crawler Carl convert! I love the series so much. I need to check out the Librarian game. I am trying to get some stuff done around my house this summer too, but a little slower. I am currently trying to do a couple shelves of my bookcases a day to get things that I know I don’t need to keep. I’m not great about it though. I’ll never read my Buffy the Vampire Slayer books again, but I just can’t quite get rid of them yet. I have such a good collection that makes me happy to look at it. Hope you guys have another good week!

    1. That was the cutest thing and made my mama heart so happy. I wanted Wyatt to have friends and now he does. 🙂

I had forgotten about The Goonies!! I need to add it to the list. It is so summertime and fits the type perfectly.

I am waiting a few months to read the second in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series. I can burn out on a series really quickly and I don’t want to do that with this one.

I am the same. I have like every Stephen King book written before 2015 and even though I don’t read him anymore, I don’t want to get rid of the ones I have. They make me happy to see.

  3. Oh my gosh, that story about Wyatt and that older lady is so cute. I also love that you made that drawing into stickers!!! Such a cute idea.. Please share where you had them made or if you just made them on your computer.

    1. It has taken me a minute to read one but I really loved it. I am planning to read the second one maybe end of August. Lol.

And I am so excited to have that baseball experience for Wyatt. It definitely feels so summer.

  4. Oh, the baseball game made me smile big. I know camp just finished and figured Wyatt didn’t go this year with the surgery and all so I’m glad he had the game. (And this just in — last night we were in Detroit at the Michigan Emmys and the film “Camp RicStar” won! Needless to say, there was a lot of celebrating at our table!

You’ve had a productive week and a fun one!

    1. He loves baseball so much! And I think that next year we will be able to go to camp and still play. He is bursts with happiness on that field.

Oh my gosh!!! I love hearing that!!! It is such a great experience and camp. I am glad that they are continuing to be recognized!

  5. I am so in the mood for a good DIY project! I have several in mind, but Mike’s limitations and my lack of knowledge keep it from happening. It’s kinda driving me nuts. I’m sure everything will be so much happier in your eyes once it’s put together. I love the way you are creating this community of kiddos who see individuals rather than how they are different, and you’re spreading it to adults! They’re often the hardest to see these things. I think I would have given that woman a squeeze! Have you introduced Wyatt to The Goonies? I think that may be my number one all time favorite kid-ish movie! It’s just the best, and I find it so weird when I see the actors as they are now! I just finished a book (yay, me) so I’ll try to write a post about it. It’s one I’ve read several times, but I needed a fun and relaxing read. We just watched the movie, Michael, and I’m still trying to wrap my head around things. It really was good, though.

    1. I think I was too! I was like I don’t care what else we need to do, I am doing this cabinet right now! I needed it to calm my nervous system all down. Billy told me that is called “active meditation.” Billy and his TikTok therapists. I am sure he is right though!

She was the sweetest woman. She ended up going back to sit on her side to check on her grandson but I enjoyed talking with her.

I really need to add The Goonies! I didn’t even think of it! And it really is such a great summer movie.

Oo! I would love to hear about it! I am trying to catch up on comments and commenting the next few weeks as part of my school break fun. And sometimes you just need that comfort of a familiar story. 🙂

  6. Someone may have already told you this, but your link to your TTT post isn’t working this week and I couldn’t find it on the front page of your site either. 🙂

  7. I’m glad you are having a lovely holiday! Wyatt looks so happy with his friends and I love his friends drawing.
I got through two seasons of Dark Winds but I just couldn’t watch the third, it was just so dark and depressing.

Thanks for sharing your week, happy reading!

  8. I’ve been seeing Yesteryear make the rounds a LOT! I don’t know that I’ll give it a chance but I think I did see it was optioned (already!) for a future film, so if the cast looks interesting, I may consider the book. Time will tell!

    1. I saw that too! Lol. I think Anne Hathaway is playing the main character. So far (100 pages in) I am loving it. I am hooked right now and am excited to see where it goes. We all know how things can change in a book though! Lol.
