Books, Screens, and In-Betweens

Hello everyone! I am writing this morning surrounded by jumping, bouncing zooming kittens, a sleeping cat, and a chatty little boy. I have already consumed two cups of coffee, which is my limit, but I could use another one to keep up with most of this crowd today.

It was a pretty slow, lazy week again. The cold is just keeping us inside right now. We are doing our best though!

Books:

Last week I read Secret Nights and Northern Lights which was a light easy read. I’d been reading a lot of moody winter books and I needed a bit of a shake up. This book was the antidote I needed!

I am still debating what I want to read this week. Do I want something light again? Something wintry? I am picking this one up from the library tomorrow, and I am pretty sure that is the one I am going to start. I learned about it over at Jeanie’s blog, Marmalade Gypsy and she loves it so much I had to look for it. Way to go my library! It has had all sorts of books that are older and out of print that I have been looking for this year. Never change, library.

I am also in the mood for something scary, or a ghost story. I need to look for one while I am at the library.

Screens:

This week Billy and I reunited with our old friends Ruth, Peter, and Alex, and watched Wartime Farm for the millionth time. We also watched Victorian Bakers, which wasn’t as good as the farm shows, but it was still very good. It also had the added bonus of making us want to bake bread. And eat bread.

Last week I posted a few times.

I’m playing with my little designs. Do I want one design for all, different? I will keep playing. I enjoy fiddling around with Canva anyway. Lol.

In-Betweens:

I got my first snail mail letter last week! Thank you Tina! I mailed one back to you – I was going to email and tell you then felt like that was silly. And now here I am posting it on my blog! LOL. I will get the hang of this eventually.

I also sent out a few other snail mail letters while I was at it, to the pen pals I have picked up from the Analog Life Project, and Wyatt sent one to his friend Little Miss, Lisa’s daughter.

I am really enjoying letter writing! And of course, picking out stationery.

Around the Internets:

Lisa at Boondock Ramblings and I host a monthly bookish link party called A Good Book and A Cup of Tea.  This link-up is for book and reading posts or anything related to books and reading (even movies based on books!). Each link party will be open for a month. You can find that link up for this month here. I was a very poor co-host this month as I was doing some life re-organizing and I am still catching up on some things.

And a kitten pic to end this post.

And that is it from me today! I hope that whatever you do today, you do something that makes you smile!

I currently have When Wanderers Cease to Roam checked out of the library, also because Jeanie mentioned it. I’ve been studying it and thinking about how I might want to work with illustrated journaling in my life.

The kitten photo made me go “awww.”

  2. I have lots of stationery but don’t write so often anymore. Some of it is so cute too. I wrote my Mom every week until she died right before Christmas. I actually did the same writing her mother, my grandma every week and that was when I was in college. Hope you are staying warm!

  3. What a lovely (if chilly) week you’ve had!

I have been thinking about Pen Pals again, too. In the late 90s I signed up for a Pen Pal program off the back of a Rolling Stone magazine. Could’ve been super sketchy but it was not only legit but a ton of fun communicating with people all over the world for many years.

I’m looking for my next audio book but haven’t settled on one yet so I feel your pain. There are so many good options out there! Good luck on your next pick!

    1. Lol that could have ended up crazy but I am glad that it was legit. I had one pen pal growing up, she lived in England and we were “introduced” by my neighbor who had moved to the USA from England. I found most of mine through either here on the blog talking about it, or through the Analog Life Project by Little Truth Studios!

I am hoping to have good luck at the library this afternoon! I hope that you find one soon as well!

For some reason, I got a message saying I wasn’t allowed to comment on this post. Anyway, what I wanted to say was I’d love to be your penpal as long as you find me some fun stationary (or stationery…I can never remember)! Have a fabulous day, and I loved the kitten pic!

  5. I so enjoy getting letters! I’ve gotten snail mail from Tina and Patricia and Care in recent months, and it was a delight. When I was a girl, I had a penpal in Taiwan. I wonder where she is now.

You are so fortunate to be able to find that Vivian Swift book at your own library. It’s beautiful. I bought the one she wrote about her travels in France.

  6. Writing letters and getting snail mail is so fun! I fell out of the habit a bit when my grandma died as she was the main person I wrote to, but I still do Postcrossing. Nice to see you and Wyatt partaking of the joys of snail mail. 😁

How fun to be posting snail mail. Sending out thank you cards is the extent of my snail mail these days. I guess that’s even going by the wayside. So many just send a thank you text. Yes, the stationary can be so pretty! Kitties with the zoomies can be a lot, but aren’t they so cute? Love the kitten photo!!!

    1. It is so fun to have pen pals again! Lol. I got my first letter from my Netherlands penpal yesterday and I needed a pick me up. It was perfect.

And yes, they crack me up. They are so tiny and they just stampede around this house. Lol. We love them.

I hope warmer weather comes your way soon. Secret Nights and Northern Lights does sound good! Pen pals! I used to be really into pen paling–for years. And now I don’t even remember to send birthday cards. I am Facebook friends with my very first two pen pals who I started writing to in middle school. I miss getting snail mail. I think that it’s great that you and Wyatt have gotten into it. I hope you have a good weekend, Erin. Take care.

  9. I’m so glad the letter made it and I very much enjoyed getting yours! I write letters a few times a month. Stationary will end up being my finacial downfall, lol.

Love the cat photos. Also, thanks for the recommendations for shows to check out. I may be watching some of the Olympics this week, on my tablet and after the fact, because the skiing starts at 5:30 a.m. and I am most assuredly not out of bed!
