Happy December! Last week was a whirlwind! I got busy crossing things off of my to-do list and I feel like although I was a whirling dervish I have a lot of things in motion and set up for a fun December for our family. I also took my mom Christmas shopping – in actual stores. I am so much more of an online shopper and maybe most people are now, as the stores were practically empty. I feel like in the past they would have been packed – however we were practically the only people in most of the stores we went to.

Read Last Week:

These two were just the relaxing type of books I needed last week! Outfoxed was good, but not my favorite in the series. And A Highland Christmas a was a short little read about one of my favorite fictional towns, Lochdubh.

Reading This Week:

My birthday was a few weeks ago, and my mom and dad both gave me some birthday cash, which has been burning a hole in my pocket for a while. I knew I wanted to buy books, since I rarely treat myself to actually owning a book but I always make my choices carefully as for what I want to put in my collection. I decided on a few different collections and editions of books, including a few of the Harper Collins Special Edition books. The first title I added was this Agatha Christie – isn’t it beautiful? I also picked up this gift edition of All Creation Waits, a sort of nature advent.

Posted Last Week:

‘Tis the Season Cinema: The Muppet Christmas Carol

What Wyatt’s Reading – November

Tuesday Morning Coffee Catch Up- Owls and Christmas Pictures

Watching and Listening:

We have been watching Christmas movies like crazy! We watched The Muppet Christmas Carol, Spirited with Ryan Reynolds, and The Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special. Spirited was really good! I was sort of meh about watching it but then I ended up loving it! And we also really liked Guardians of the Galaxy. Mantis cracks me up. Plus Kevin Bacon!!!

Last night we watched Three Pines on Amazon – and it was fabulous. I can’t attest to its accuracy as I never read the book (I really should read this series!) but wow, it knocked our socks off.

In tv land, we have been watching Grantchester and the Ring of Power. I have to admit, Ring of Power is good but a leeeetle bit slow for me. I can’t watch them every night either. Grantchester is also a bit slow honestly.

If you were in LOTRO world, would you rather be a hobbit, elf, or a dwarf? Billy picked dwarf, I picked elf, and my brother picked the Harfoot Hobbits.

Anyway, that’s it from my little corner of Michigan! How are you all doing?

  1. I’m the person choosing the movie tonight and now I’m stuck between choosing A Muppet Christmas Carol or Spirited. Decisions, decisions.

All Creation Waits sounds like a book I’d love. Happily it is on Hoopla so I can read it right away.

Thanks, Erin, for helping guide our movie-watching and my reading!

  2. I haven’t read M.C. Beaton in a while. I almost finished the Agatha Raisin series. Also, I didn’t know Ryan Reynolds was ina Christmas movie. Will check that out. We’ve already watched Love, Actually and It’s a Wonderful Life and Die Hard so far!

  3. I am so far behind on my Christmas shopping this year, but it feels that way with everything. Sounds like you are getting in some good movie-watching time, that’s great! We haven’t watched a Christmas movie yet, LOL.

  4. Isn’t it funny about stores now?

I think I would be an elf. Although I really liked the hobbit’s sorta pastoral lifestyle. 🙂 And I hope you like Rings better as it goes. I thought it got better towards the end. And I’m going to start Three pines even though I’ve never read the books!

  5. Those are gorgeous books, Erin! I haven’t read Agatha Christie in years. I really should because my brain needs some exercising, and I feel like you have to be on your toes when reading her books. I would probably choose to be an elf because their land (from what I can remember of the movies) was just so beautiful!

  6. We really enjoyed the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special as well. I knew that it could be corny, but I was okay with that.

I enjoyed Three Pines, too! I’m a huge Louise Penny fan and have read all the books, but I only hoped that it stayed true to the spirit (not the details) of the books, so I was happy with it.

    Have a great week!

    1. That is what we were expecting as well, and it was ok with us too. It was just a fun little movie!

I am glad to hear that it at least stays true to the spirit for all of you who have read the books. 🙂 I have it written in my planner to start reading them next year!

  7. Happy belated birthday! You chose some lovely books.

We watched the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special last night and loved it! We also watched DreamWorks Holiday Classics on Netflix. You may have seen the four animated shorts in that last one since you have Wyatt but we hadn’t seen them. They were adorable. Two from Madagascar, one from How to Train Your Dragon, and one from Shrek.

I would want to be a hobbit. I love breakfast so they had me at “Second Breakfast.”

    Enjoy your week!
