The Wednesday Hodgepodge

The Wednesday Hodgepodge is hosted by Joyce From This Side of the Pond

Here we go!

1. August is National Back To School Month…how does that make you feel? Share a back-to-school memory.

I always loved back to school time! I have always loved fall, even as a kid and back to school meant autumn was coming, new school supplies, new clothes. However, the year I started tenth grade I caught the chicken pox right before school started! I missed the first two weeks of school, and I cried and cried about how horrible I looked. It was not the best start to the year.

2. Something you’ve learned in ‘the school of life’?

You’ve just got to keep moving forward. Things might seem tough and rough at times, but you just have to keep on keeping on. Most of the time things work out.

3. Three words to describe your current mood.

Tired, full, content.

4. A summer food you’ve eaten too much of/are tired of? A summer food you haven’t had enough of?

Watermelon! I am almost tired of it. Almost. We have eaten it almost every night and while I am loving it, it is on the verge of becoming too much. As for something summery that I haven’t had enough of, I would say ice cream.

5. What small stuff do you sweat that you know you shouldn’t?

I’m not much of a small stuff worrier – I do tend to go overboard worrying about the big stuff though!

A.M. Edit – So, after some thinking, I get very anxious about going new places. I don’t like not knowing where I am going, what to do when I get there, where to park, etc. That is very tough for me.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

My husband is a watching an ASMR video of a person making lasagna in a cast iron skillet, and the person is making it over an open fire next to a babbling brook, and it is pretty darn amazing. I want to be there, in those woods, getting ready to eat this delicious looking meal. The scenery is gorgeous, big trees, moss covered rocks, from scratch ingredients. It all looks wonderful, and it is seriously relaxing.

I couldn’t think of any “small stuff” worries either — but on reading your edit I totally relate to that. I actually pray about finding parking spaces!

Oh, and that outdoor lasagna video! Going to have to watch that one!

We have not done lasagne over the fire in a cast iron skillet, but my hubs makes a mean cobbler in ours when we’re camping. I’m going to share the video with him. I have had a lot of watermelon but it is probably the one food I never tire of. I guess it helps that the season is short.

  3. Ahh, that was tough getting chicken pox right before school started. I enjoy just about any spot where someone else is cooking up something delicious to share! 🙂
Hope the rest of your week goes well.

That lasagna does look incredible! Your story about the chicken pox reminded me that I missed the last week of kindergarten and my family’s first camping trip in our new camper because I got the mumps. Not a good way to end a school year, either!

  5. Whoa. That is a cool lasagna video for sure. Pretty sure I’d set myself on fire somehow.

I hated when it was time to go back to school. I was terribly introverted and dreaded having to maneuver through the halls at high school and talk to people!

  6. I didn’t think I sweated the small stuff either until I read your small stuff. Then, I thought, “Yep, that’s me!” I also remember worrying, before I learned how to drive a car, about how to work the windshield wipers, the heater, and the radio rather than how to actually drive the car! So, I guess it’s the really, really small stuff that gets me! Fun post, Erin!

  7. Wow would never have thought of cooking lasagne that way – although it’s been so dry here recently you wouldn’t have a fire in any forest at the moment. I’m with you on going to new places (and doing new things, meeting new people – probably anything new) – makes me fret.

That’ nice that you loved school. I’m glad you are content. I haven’t had much watermelon but I did have some ice cream. We need to switch! That lasagna looks delicious.
