I am going to be honest here – I am not a big shopper, especially for clothes. Books? Yes. Art? Yes. Clothes? No. I would like to blame motherhood but that is not it, not really. I have never been interested much, but yeah, I have let the wardrobe slide even further since I had Wyatt. I love buying him clothes but looking in my closet the other day I was like, ok, this is not good. Sure I am not going anywhere due to COVID but I need to do something about this situation. So many old t-shirts and ratty jeans, a few sweaters that were my dad’s that he gave to my husband but I stole because they were soft and comfy, a sweatshirt or two, and you have the contents of my closet, such as it is.
But what to buy, really, when I am not planning on doing much this fall? Well, I thought about that too. And, after seeing this closet reveal and how adorable Leslie looks, I was super inspired! I have a list, we will see how I do! (I need lists to survive..)
Gatherings this fall will be small, intimate, and (socially distanced) outside. And in Michigan, that means dressing for cooler weather. And fireside drinks! So this is where my mind went.

I totally definitely want this black Ivy Cardigan from tentree! It looks perfect for snuggling up in around a fire – plus it has a hood!! And the price is not bad either. I also love that they are sustainable and plant ten trees for every purchase.
And for those nights when I get together with my friends, hanging out by the firepit, sharing stories of homeschooling and parenting during these strange times over glasses of red wine, I think this sweater from H & M might help to make me feel a little less mom and a little more put together.

This shirt caught my eye..

And so did this one from United by Blue, another sustainable and ecofriendly company ..

Anndddd this one, again from tentree..

And I will probably need to get some new jeans and leggings while I am at it. Pair these with boots and warm socks and I should have a few things for fall!
Since I don’t shop too much, tell me, what do you think I should get? Where do you like to shop?
I got the Land’s End catalogue the other day and I might have to get a new fleece zip top. Like I need another but they had the most glorious yellow! Since I don’t go out there is little point but you’ve still gotta keep cozy!

First of all, thank you so much for the kind comments. I am about to write a blog post about some of the trends I am learning to love that I would have never imagined wearing a few years ago. Thank you again for the sweet mention.
I love that H&M sweater. Sweet, feminine, with lots of ways it can be paired. Hope you will purchase it and style it for us pronto. I was going to suggest Etsy for unique graphic tees. Tees that will represent your personality, your life. They are fun to pair with cardis, pullover sweaters, denim jackets, moto jackets for running errands or even date night.
When I was a young mom, I had 2 pairs of shoes. One brown and one black. Then I afforded myself a burgundy pair of flats that I wore until they had holes in the soles. We just don’t focus on ourselves when we are mommies of little ones. But you do so much for Wyatt, it is time to give yourself a little treat. Maybe buy a few new fall pieces, dress up for date night or for a mani and lunch.
Big hugs to beautiful you.

Thank you for all the suggestions and for your kind words as well! I am excited to check out your new post. 🙂
I never thought to look on Etsy but that seems like a great place for me to look! And it sounds like I need to invest in a few more outerwear type things to layer with. I am loving that sweater too – I just bought the first one, that cardigan, but my friends and I also just set a date for a fire and wine night so it looks like I will have to get the H & M one too. Lol.
That is so me. I have such a utilitarian view on clothes right now – like they have to be multifunctional and useful, rather than just cute or to make me feel good. I need to change that! 🙂
And thank you so much. 🙂

Hey I am back again, just wanted to invite you to do a bucket list post with me. A few gals and I always make fun activity lists or ‘bucket’ lists for each season. We will be sharing our fall list on 09.21. I know life is crazy now but you could make your list as simple or involved as you like. Come up with some things to do with Wyatt. Maybe a date night. Maybe an activity around clothes for fall. Getting dressed up. Trying something trendy that is out of your comfort zone. Trying a new recipe. A new restaurant. Movie night, etc., etc.
If you are interested in joining me, I can send you the optional graphic and the link up code. Email me at mommyhon333@hotmail.com. Invite your friends, too!!

The H&M sweater and the T shirts are taking my eye. I don’t think I’ve bought any clothes since the UK lockdown in March apart from two pairs of trainer type shoes. I seem to be living in leggings and jeans…

Me too!! And my leggings are like a hundred years old (or 5, since they were from when I went to yoga all the time before I had Wyatt. Lol) I am feeling like doing some wardrobe cleansing and sprucing up!

definitely time to buy a new collection – they tend to go baggy around the knees I find after a while

I went through a very similar time, Erin, and it was so refreshing and renewing to being the intention I had for raising my children into my own closet, of all places! I’m not a big shopper, and I only keep around 35 items in my total wardrobe, not including jammies and exercise clothes—and I’ve found it to be the best move I’ve ever made in this department. I have less but love what I have; I don’t feel bad about occasionally ‘investing’ in a pricier item I know I’ll wear and love for a long time, and the best part is that I never stand around wondering what to wear or—worse—wear something to rationalize keeping it—only to spend all day not feeling like ‘myself’ each time I glimpse my reflection. Have fun making your fall wardrobe!!

I just scheduled a donation pickup for one month out – trying to give myself time to go through all my old stuff I don’t need but is still wearable, and to get rid of the uck stuff. I already ordered that first cardigan so I am on my way. Lol! I do feel like I am remaking myself a bit here. All of my older clothes are from when I worked and I don’t need those anymore, they just take up space. I need to dress for who I am now and start allowing myself to do that. 🙂

I love those and that comfortable and practical without looking quite so “mom” is a tough balance! Have you tried Trunk Club? It’s my favorite thing. It’s kind of like Stitch Fix except it’s through Nordstrom. You fill out some questions and pick some pictures and they pick a ton of stuff for you and you can look at it before they send it and request changes and then you send back what you don’t like and keep what works. That way I don’t have to go shopping! You’ll have to show us what you end up with!

I think that is exactly the way to phrase it – that I need to be comfortable and practical but not look so mom! Perfect. I will look into that! I know one of my friend’s used to do one of those Stitch Fix type things too, and loved it.
