It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date

I took an unplanned break last week – from everything it seems like. Wyatt and I were super lazy. The weather was horrid and humid, and we didn’t want to go outside. We seemed to have lost motivation for everything. Friday night though I had a socially distance social gathering my friends, despite the stormy weather. We just gathered in the garage, all spread out, with the garage door open. It was a good time. Finally, today, the weather is much cooler, and we might have our mojo back. Just a little. We went for a family hike in the woods, the first in months, then had a little picnic.

Read Last Week:

I really enjoyed this third book in the Vine Witch series! This book focused on Sidra the fiery jinn, her past, and the new danger facing her – as well as Elena and Yvette, who have found themselves entangled in each other’s fates it seems at every turn. Review soon.

Reading this Week:

I can’t decide between these two. As for Maniac, I am sure this book will freak me out but having been to Bath, MI on a brief visit while my husband interviewed for a job there, I have been curious to know what happened there. While my husband was at his interview, I explored the town which is pretty small, and saw the memorial that stands at the site of this tragedy. And Southern Book Club – well, that might be the winner in this race. I have wanted to read it for a while now! We will see which grabs me more while reading. UPDATE: I started Southern Book Club and was sucked in…it’s riveting and I think scares me more than Maniac would have!! Terrifying but so good!

Watching:

Father Brown, Teenage Bounty Hunters, and we are also rewatching Parks and Rec. I find myself saying “literally” a lot more right now..

And that is about it from where I am sitting! Wyatt’s first day of Kindergarten homeschool is Monday – I am looking forward to it!

    1. Yeah, I think it was the lack of being able to be comfortable outside that contributed to some of our yuck mood. Wyatt and I are not good with heat or humidity, so we were stuck inside and that is never good for us. We need activity and fresh air for sure. 🙂 I am glad that you are doing a bit better as well, and can get your walks in. 🙂

  1. I understand exactly how you felt. It has been five months now for me without seeing all of my usual people, and I miss that. I think I need to start getting together with people (using social distancing rather than complete avoidance) a little more. The walking each day is good for me.

I don’t know which of those two books I’d choose. I don’t think I could read about a school shooter right now. I feel like I’m too easily upset. But you may be different. The vampire book might be a better choice. My two cents.

I hope you have a great start to homeschooling, Erin.

    1. I just felt so blah. Part of it was sinus headache, the rest just like this general bleh with life. I am hoping with starting school tomorrow and getting into a new routine will perk us up, especially after a nice weekend.

I don’t know what is going on with me lately. I am all about the true crime right now – I was wondering the other day if maybe because on some level it is so horrific that it makes me forget the nightmare of 2020? I will say I should probably just remove Maniac from this post, because I started SBC this morning and I am already sucked in and have texted all of my friends telling them to read it. Lol. It reminds me of us, in a way.

  2. Last week and the week before were so humid. It just broke today and it’s been so nice. It’s actually 68 degrees tonight and I don’t feel like I’m having a permenant hot flash! I don’t know if I’m totally ready for Fall, but I can’t stop it anyhow.

We start school Wednesday here. I got very nervous this weekend and tried to talk my son into virtual school at the local school district. he declined. He likes our flexible schedule here so … here we go for another year. Eeek!

    1. Ugh the humidity is so obnoxious. It finally broke here as well, thank goodness. I was pretty listless from it. Lol. And dramatic I guess.

Well, today is the big day! We did pictures and breakfast so far, and so far so good. LOL.

You are going to be great!!! You do such a good job that this is what your son prefers! That is awesome!!

I sort of took last week off too. The weather always looked like rain which kept me from walking outside. The Southern Book Club book looks interesting. I’ll have to add it to my wishlist. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  4. It is still humid here in Arkansas, but cool enough to make sitting on the back porch survivable.

I wish I had Maniac in my possession RIGHT NOW!!! I have to hold myself back from reading the Wikipedia page. Don’t want to spoil the book by knowing too much about the crime in advance. That must’ve been eerie standing at the actual site in Bath.
