Hello everyone! This fall Lisa from Boondock Ramblings and I are doing something a little bit different. Instead of Comfy Cozy Cinema, we are doing Sweater Weather Cinema, which yeah sounds kind of like the same thing. Lol. But this time, there is no schedule of movies, we are just watching whatever we want, when we want, and the linky will be open for anyone for any fall movie at all until Thanksgiving. So hunker down and watch the movies that make you feel autumnal, whether they are cozy or classic or scary, silly and heartwarming and maybe a little sad. Billy and I kicked things off by watching Lantern Hill last night.

Lantern Hill is a 1989 movie based on the book Jane of Lantern Hill by L.M. Montgomery. It was very loosely based, I should say, as it was almost completely different, but the main points were the same so, I gave it a pass on its inaccuracies.

First of all, it did feel very fall and cozy, and there were lots of big cozy cable knit sweaters being worn. It made me glare out the window at our own still too warm weather. And yellowjackets, because they are annoying me these days. The landscape in the movie was gorgeous, trees all ablaze with the changing season, before turning into winter near the end of the movie.

Like I said, this was a departure from the book. The only thing was the same was the bare bones of the story: Jane’s parents were separated, Jane found out, Jane went to stay with her dad, and all the women in her life were either mean or wimpy. She didn’t really find a group of friends or her freedom or happiness too much on the island, at least not like she did in the book, but she did like living with her dad much more than in Toronto with her mean grandma.

There was also a whole mystical storyline that was not in the original, with a mysterious scandalous death, a witchy type character named Hepzibah (pictured above), and even a ghost.

Billy could not get over the female adults in this movie. I totally agreed, and told him they were not much better in the book. Hepzibah was probably the best older female mentor Jane had in this movie, besides her teacher. Even though she was not related to Jane, Billy said that Hepzibah was the grandma that Jane deserved all along.

For an introduction to fall, this was not a bad movie pick. It had all the factors I wanted, which was a cozy atmosphere that made me think of bonfires and apple cider, crunchy leaves, and of course, thick sweaters.
