I am linking up with Deb at Readerbuzz, Kathryn at Book Date, and Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
Hello everyone! I hope that you are doing well today! It looks like today is going to be a beautiful day for Father’s Day here. I am not quite sure what we are going to do, but we will do something.
Books:

So, I read Yesteryear and I am still processing it. It was a lot! I am still not even sure if I enjoyed it yet. It was very heavy and intense, and made me sad. I ended up reading The Last Resort afterwards to scrub my brain out afterwards, and it was a good choice. Review for Yesteryear coming soon. I may end up doing a spoiler video on YouTube to go with it, because I have things to say but I don’t want to put them in my review.
This week I am not sure what I am reading. I have two I am thinking about though. Maybe I will start with How to Survive Camping and move on to The Growing Summer.

Screens:
We finished up Widow’s Bay which was awesome. I was so bummed when we ran out of episodes!! We have moved on to Murder Most Puzzling, which I learned about from Lisa at Boondock Ramblings. We watched the first episode and really enjoyed it!
I mentioned that we are watching old fun movies from the 80s and 90s with Wyatt, and last Sunday we watched The Sandlot. It was so good. It is such an iconic summer movie. Billy said that was almost identical to how his summers were as a kid though, just hopping on his bike and running around town with his buddies all day long.
And who can forget this line? I say it at least once a day, still. Lol.
I didn’t post very much last week.

Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Wishlist – Thank you to the two bloggers, Nicky @ The Bibliphibian and Carrie at Reading is My Superpower, who were so generous and gifted me books! That was so very nice of you and made my week!
Thursday Morning Coffee Catch Up
And just a reminder: Lisa of Boondock Ramblings and I host a monthly bookish link party called A Good Book and A Cup of Tea.. Recently Cat at Cat’s Wire joined up with us as a co-host as well! This link-up is for book and reading posts or anything related to books and reading (even movies based on books!). Each link party will be open for a month. You can find that link up for this month here.

In-Betweens:
Yesterday we went on our first picnic of the summer! This was something we started during lockdown and the pandemic, and it has become just something we do now. We found a great spot at the park, which even on the hottest summer days is cool under the shade of the trees. We usually draw or color or paint and then one of us will decide we need to lay down for a bit because it is so relaxing. Then eventually the rest of us lie down too and just watch the leaves flutter in the wind and the sunlight play across the ground, while the birds sing. It is just so peaceful.

And I think that is all from me today! I hope that whatever you do today, you do something that makes you smile!
I love picnics and need to have more of them. I love seeing those smiles in your photos. Have a great week Erin.
It is such a nice way to spend a few hours in the summer. And thank you Jodie!
I haven’t had a picnic in forever, but my friend and I just talked about having one. We’ll see if we actually manage. Peaceful sounds so good.
If you find a nice spot, they can be so relaxing!
That Noel Streatfield book looks really good!
You have been reading a lot of interesting books lately.
The picnic sounds and looks wonderful!
Lol! It’s been a weird month of reading honestly!
Looks like a nice week! I don’t know if I’ve ever watched the whole Sandlot movie, even though so many people love it and I hear that line all the time. I’ve also heard Yesteryear is a hard read? Or at least it sounds like it from your thoughts so far. How to Survive Camping looks good too! Anxious to see your thoughts! Have a great week!

The Sandlot is so wholesome and good, and feels so nostalgic.
Yesteryear is an interesting read, but it is for sure not easy. I am hoping to get my review on it up today!
I’m going to skip Yesteryear!
It’s a rough read!
Aw, cute photos!
I’ve been curious about Yesteryear just because everyone seems to have a lot of thoughts about it! It doesn’t sound like my thing, but at the same time… well, curious!
Lol! I understand that. I get the same way. Yesteryear was pretty crazy, with very unlikable characters so it was a hard read in that way.
The picnic sounds like so much fun. Those pics are so cute. I hope you have a great week!
Thanks Yvonne!
Yay for bookish wishes coming true! Always a treat. Glad you had a good week. I hope you enjoy whatever you decide to read next.
They were a nice surprise!!!
A lovely post but I’m especially enchanted by the picnic. What a wonderful idea and tradition!
Thank you Jeanie!!
OH yes, “you’re killing me Smalls” is a phrase uttered in this house too!
LOL yes!!!
We’re big SANDLOT fans at our home and “You’re killing me Smalls” is a favorite line. Time to rewatch the movie!
Happy summer.
It’s the perfect time for a rewatch!
Yay for picnics! It looks like a beautiful spot for a picnic, too. I kinda wished I hadn’t read Yesteryear after I read it, but I also kinda wish people who think they want to live that primitive lifestyle might read it before they try to take it on. It’s much, much harder than it might appear.
It was not a nice gentle read for sure. I don’t wish I hadn’t read it, but it did take a few days to get it out of my head!
Love the picnic and getting outdoors.
Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
Thanks Anne!
Oh, you do have me curious about Yesteryear. I may have to read it just so we can talk about it. I finished a book I used to read to my fourth graders and am reading another by the same author, Richard Peck. If you haven’t read any of his books, you might want to. They are hilarious and yet have a bit of a lesson in them. We watched the movie, Michael, which is about Michael Jackson. I’m still so torn about him. I may do a blog post, if I get brave enough.
I love picnics. Maybe I should make Mike go on one. He could use his walker to get to the picnic table at one of the parks. Thanks for the idea!

I emailed you!
I don’t know if I’ll read Yesteryear, but I have it on hold at my library. I hear the characters are pretty unlikable. We just watched a 90s movie over the weekend while in Montana: Twister. The original one and it was still really good! Have a great week!
The characters are very unlikable. Lol. Oh I loved Twister when it came out, even though it scared me!!!
Your picnic sounds so peaceful and amazing!
We had such a nice time. 🙂
I love your picnic tradition😁 I need to read Yesteryear and see what everyone is talking about! Have a great week!
Thanks Tammy! It is a crazy book, and not necessarily a happy one. It was definitely interesting though!
You’ll need to read something very positive to get Natalie out of your system. The Growing Summer looks good. Great to see Wyatt out and on a picnic. Enjoy your week.
Ugh yes. Natalie is like an algae bloom. I need some happy reads!
It sounds like you have had a great start to summer.
Thanks for sharing your week, happy reading
Thanks Shelleyrae!
Yesteryear was indeed a trip. Do you think you will watch the series when it airs? Ann Hathaway is playing Natalie and I think I will give it a shot. My god she was unlikeable but then, try and find a character who was likeable!
We’ve not wacthed the Sandlot in decades. Great movie and our son loved it.
Picnics forever! <3
I do love a lazy picnic afternoon!
My husband and I visited a really foggy lighthouse while we were down in Green Bay a few weeks ago. It was really weird because just a couple of miles inland, the sun was shining and it was 20 degrees warmer. I sent the foggy lighthouse picture to my aunt and uncle and they texted back to say that now we need to watch Widow’s Bay. I seem to be running into it everywhere now and I’d never heard of it before! I later listened to a review of it on NPR’s Pop Culture Happy Hour. When I listened to that review, the plot of Widow’s Bay sounded like a secondary character’s story arc in Resident Alien, which we love. That felt like another coincidence steering us to watch it. We don’t have Apple TV at the moment but I know we’ll resubscribe when the new season of Ted Lasso drops, so we’ll watch Widow’s Bay then.
Noel Streatfeild, hooray! And Ardizzone illustrations, too! I’m only running a bit late on blog reading so you have a LOT of eager readers and commenters … Love the picnic and long for cool myself right now (I am going to a bookshop event this evening, the bookshop has aircon and is only 10 minutes’ walk away but that walk seems a LONG way right now!).
I love the Streatfeild book. It is from the library but I know I need a copy. Lol.
I hope you are managing in the heatwave. Stay cool. They make little fans that wrap around your neck, have you seen those?
Fortunately it has got cooler now. I have a great fan in my study and it goes by my bedside at night.
