Comfy Cozy Christmas: Making Christmas

Hello everyone!! I hope you are all having a wonderful December so far! Things here are beginning to look like Christmas. Snow outside, our indoor decorations are up, I have some Christmas homeschool in the works, and we have been watching Christmas movies.

My grandma made that white tree. It had reddish orange bulbs before, but I replaced them with clear lights and I like it better. I do need to replace the star that was at the top. I think I can find them on Amazon, more than likely.

That little Christmas tree, the green one, is covered in ornaments that Wyatt and I have made together every year since he was old enough to help. I need to pick an ornament for us to make together this year still, but I love this little tree.

I have been hiding little bits of Christmas places this year. A little teapot ornament with mice tucked in among the plants on the sill, a tree ornament from 1978 on a shelf near my books. I like running across these little bits of the holiday as I go about my day.

I decked my dresser all out this year as well, with Christmas books and a plaid wool runner, and my vintage Regency Christmas romance books. The stuffed Highland Cow was a gift from my son this year; I have named him Sir Reginald, as he looks like a down on his luck member of the gentry.

I am not quite done decorating, but I am so close.

This area is a little blah still, so I want to add some greenery to it.

The tree is Wyatt’s favorite, hands down. He loves when the tree goes up, and loves helping to decorate it. I love our assortment of ornaments. We have more than we can put on, with many leftover from my childhood, and from life before Wyatt, really. So we try to do a mix, some childhood, some Billy and Erin pre-Wyatt, then the ornaments we collected when he was born.

I even decorated Miso, much to her annoyance.

I took the hat off after the photo, and she forgave me. She got all cuddly and warm and purred away, which is always nice in the winter isn’t it, a nice warm cat on your lap?

We watched A Garfield Christmas the other night, and there is a scene that touches my heart and makes me tear up so much now, as an adult.

I am not quite done decorating, but I am so close.

We also watched Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas, which is one of my own personal favorites, and Wyatt is beginning to love it too. Billy, he tolerates it for me, but we do have our own little jokes that we say to each other all year from the movie. We watched it last night, and I wanted to make it a whole thing. So we set up the den all snuggly and cozy, and I had a little plate of Christmas treats, goodies like cinnamon stars and almond windmills and vanilla peppermint pretzels. It was magical.

I have some other posts coming up, but I thought this would be a good one to kick things off.

Happy Holidays everyone.

  1. Your tree is so beautiful. I love the close-ups of the ornaments. And Wyatt’s handmade ornament tree is so special. I really like the white ceramic tree. Usually you see them in green and I like the white so much more.

It’s a busy season. I’m glad you are finding so many good together things.

    1. Aw thank you Jeanie. And I love his little handmade tree. It makes me so happy and I like to keep it near to the heart of our home. I found it so unusual that my grandmother painted that white! I guess it was the 60s or 70s? I do like the white. It was really jarring with the lights she had chosen so I am glad I switched them out though lol.

Thank you Jeanie. I hope that you are healing and feeling better!

Your home is just lovely, Erin! You have such a knack for decorating and making things cozy and warm and just homey. I love that little tree of Wyatt’s. Love the photo of your two men hanging out together, too.

When my youngest was in preschool, one of the moms ran a ceramics shop. All of the kids got to make one of those ceramic trees for something like $3.00! I had it for years, but I finally gave it to him several years ago. When we first moved down here to Brownsburg, my daughter, granddaughter, and I went to a pottery place and painted our own. I’d love to have a white one, though. Now, if Wyatt and Billy don’t mind, would you come down and decorate my home? I cannot believe it’s the 8th of December, and I don’t have a single tree up! They are all in the attic, and it’s not a one-woman show to get them down. I hate bugging people to help me, though. I’m gonne get it done, but maybe just one tree instead of four.

    1. Thank you Marsha! I had wanted to go to the store to buy some extra bits for places but I feel at this point I will just wait until after Christmas and pack it all up together for next year. Lol. Our schedule is just filling up, plus Wyatt and Billy BOTH have colds now darn it.

Wow that is an amazing deal!! I think it would be fun to make one too. And how cool that she ran a ceramics shop! I like this white one too. It has grown on me, especially since I changed out the lights. The lights were such a weird Halloween color before. Lol.

I would love to come help! Lol.

This year if you need to, just go smaller and more simple. There is nothing wrong with that either. Put up small trees this year, if that is easier and makes you happy. Or don’t put up any, and decorate another way. Do what you can and what will make you smile!

  3. Love it! 😀 I’m also a fan of tucking little bits of Christmas in the corners – which is what I’m doing now 🙂 I’m almost finished tweaking, and then I’ll be posting my own cozy little Christmas pictures!

  4. You always make this season so magical. I love that you have a little tree for you and Wyatt! That is so sweet! Your decorations and tree are so pretty. That set up for your movie night was so awesome too. My house is a mess with all my pets running all over but I might try that too.

And I can’t watch that scene from Garfield. I know I’ll cry!!

    1. I seem to go through phases! Before Wyatt was born and the first few years of his life, Billy and I had entered a minimalist phase. Then with lockdown and Covid, we sort of exploded into more. Our house is such a tiny little dollhouse of a house too, that it always looks very full. LOL. I like it though, it is very snug and full of memories.

  7. You have such a lovely, cosy aesthetic and your Christmas carries this out beautifully. We were very minimal this year as I couldn’t actually access my Christmas box – fortunately my friend Jen crocheted me a little Christmas tree for a present, I had an electric candle lantern in a secret santa present, and our cat-sitter gave us a lovely star ornament, so I put those up on the mantelpiece and that will do (no tree due to Miss Willa – and she objected to my placement of the new cushion/pillow my friend Meg gave me for Christmas and I’ve just had to move it!).
