Hello everyone!! I seem to be in like a fall deep clean kind of mood lately. I have been reorganizing and straightening and getting rid of stuff like crazy around here. Maybe I am nesting, preparing for fall and winter like all the little animals outside are doing. All I know is that our art cabinet is extremely organized right now, and that somehow in my cleaning frenzy I lost one of my sandals. I can only guess that I accidentally threw it out, which makes me sad because I loved it. Lol. However, all of this has had a side effect – now I want Billy to paint our whatever room. A few years ago, we flip-flopped the rooms in our house. It’s a very small house, and we had a room we barely used, the dining room. I realized that we could have more space if we moved our couches and television into the dining room, which we now call the den, and moved all of our other stuff into the living room. So the old living room area now has our dining room table, art stuff, animals, and just leisure activity paraphernalia. But we never know what to call that space! Anyway I am so sick of that paint color and if Billy isn’t able to paint it, then I am going to. I am not a great painter but I just can’t deal with the darkness in that room anymore. Lol.

Phew! Moving on.

Read Last Week:

Last week I read Monk and Robot books 1 and 2. I was gifted this collection edition of both books from an internet friend and I loved reading them back to back. These are just such wonderful stories and I have my husband listening to them as well.

I also read Pat of Silver Bush, which now that I think of it, was another gift! I was blessed with some book mail this summer! Pat is a mixed bag for me. I loved so much of the book, but then, I didn’t like some of the other parts. Review I hope this week, but if you want a sneak peek of it, check out my Instagram. I almost always review there first. I feel like it is a good place to sort of form my thoughts. I don’t know why it makes a difference but it does for some reason. Maybe because I feel like I need to be more succinct, which inspires me to really think about what I am saying instead of just rambling like I am right this minute. Actually this whole post is sort of a ramble!

I tried reading a romance, Out of the Woods, but there was a heavy topic in there that I was not feeling up to so I put it aside.

Reading This Week:

This week I am reading another in the Campers and Criminals series, Hitches, Hideouts and Homicide. I seem to have developed an addiction to these books. I also am reading The Convenience Store by the Sea, which sounds so good.

10 Books of Summer Update

Watching:

Last week Billy and I watched Nautilus. It is not the greatest, in terms of production, but it somehow makes it feel more camp. Like we are watching a sci-fi show from the 50s or 60s, sort of over the top and silly, but despite that, we really like it. Or maybe that is why we like it! I feel like mid-season it really started to gel a bit more and get a bit better, and I love the set of the interiors. It just looks so cool, like old school nautical mixed with Victorian era . I also really like how this series does not shy away from the horrors of colonialism, and denounces it, with many characters in the show being survivors of what they call “the Company”. It makes for a very diverse cast and shines a light on some of these historical events that perhaps today’s students don’t know about. I also really like the main female character, Humility, and her enthusiasm and talent for engineering and science. It had a lot going on at first, but it all started to settle in together nicely. We have one episode left that we are going to try to watch tonight, but we also are watching K-Pop Demon Hunters today, so it might be tomorrow instead.

And that is it from me today my friends! I hope that whatever you do today, you do something that makes you smile!

  1. I think Nautilus is on a streaming platform we have not subscribed to – yet. Currently we have Amazon and are considering Apple as it has sooo many shows we are interested in. We’ve been watching Person of Interest and like that one.

That’s cool you changed the rooms out to suit your needs. Love it. I have thought about that in this new house as well.

  2. That is a gorgeous edition of Monk & Robot!! I love the cover! I have also been decluttering and reorganizing but I feel like I’m not getting anywhere at the moment, I have so much clutter to get through! I hope you manage to get your living room painted how you like it soon! Have a wonderful week!

  3. I like cleaning frenzies though I wish my husband did too, lol. You sound like you’re getting organized and good luck with your new den – I hope you use it more. Nautilus – looks a bit fun. Enjoy.

    1. Hmm. I would. I would say that going into it that it is sad in places. I really liked Pat. She was a sweet character, and she just really loved her family and her home so much. She didn’t ever want anything to change and wanted things to just stay as they were. I am glad that I read this one, even though it made me cry! I did however read the complete synopsis of the sequel on Wikipedia and I am going to skip that one.

But yes, I would recommend it. 🙂

  4. You definitely make me want to start Nautilus! I am helping my mom go through things in her house and it makes me realize I have GOT to just start throwing things away. But then I have a bunch of Barbies and while I will usually just give them to Goodwill because you can’t sell them for anything these days, I have some older things that a friend recommended I reach out to the Toy Museum here in town to see if they want. Hope you have a good week!

    1. I keep trying to put my finger on what it reminds me of and I think it is like 1980s Star Trekish, with better costumes. I am a sucker for found family in all forms so I like that about Nautilus too.

Oh I love that idea!!! What a great suggestion! I wish there had been one near us when my stepfather passed. He had a collection of old tops and yo-yos and trains that we had no idea what to do with!

Oh, I love the idea of a room swap. In my head, I’m always planning out how my kitchen could have been better. Our primary bathroom is stupid big…the size of a small bedroom. I wish I’d been thinking and had them push that wall in so that would have created more width in the kitchen. I just feel like I’m living in someone’s AirBnB! It really gives that vibe. And, yes, I’m ready to decorate for fall…give me all the pumpkins! No, don’t do that…I already have more than I have surface space for!

I have been reading Sweetgrass and just can’t get into it. I did have to prepare for my first honest to goodness tour at the museum. It didn’t go as well as my graduation tour. I think it’s because I took my whole “speech” with me instead of relying on my memory. But, everyone seemed to really enjoy it. I don’t have another until next month. I am loving learning, though! So, maybe I should give myself some grace, right?

I hope you all have a fabulous week, Erin!

    1. We have to be creative here sometimes! Lol. Do you have lots of plants in your bathroom? I like seeing bathrooms filled with ferns and such, it looks so deco for some reason. I don’t know why.

And yes to all the pumpkins! Lolol.

Are you reading the Robin Wall Kimmerer book? I listened to that on audiobook and I liked it better that way than when I tried to read it.

And yes, absolutely give yourself grace! Especially if everyone enjoyed it. You are a teacher and love learning and teaching, this is your wheelhouse. You’ve got this.

Thank you Marsha, I hope you have a great week as well!

We watched Nautilus too – first couple of episodes – but didn’t stick with it. I’m not in a cleaning frenzy yet, but we’ve been having very hot weather here (UK) so autumn/fall hasn’t crossed my mind…yet.

    1. I like a found family story in any medium! I mean the quality is a bit…not quite up to what we are used to seeing these days. It makes me think of 1980s Star Trek or something. We are enjoying it – we watch a lot of British mystery shows usually so this is a change up for us! Lol.

Our weather has been abysmally hot here. Humid and swampy. I am just ready for fall so I am trying to will it into existence.

  7. Doesn’t the home feel so much better after a deep cleaning?  I have started listening/viewing  Dana K. White’s podcast/YouTube on decluttering and it’s helped me so much!

I found the Monk and Robot books on Hoopla and am eager to listen to them.  Happy Reading!

  8. I also have a major case of the season-shift nesting bug! I’ve been flitting around figuring out which projects I can tackle/what messy spots need to be dealt with first … Gotta get ready for hibernation! 😀 haha

  9. The nesting sounds nice! Since I’ve just moved into a new place, I’m doing a lot of tidying and organising, and it’s so satisfying. 😀 And no doubt it’ll be all the more comfortable for the dreary winter months, this way.

Awesome way to think outside the box in regard to your rooms. In our old house in NC we used the dining room as a book nook. We had a table in the kitchen, so really had no need for a dining room. We ended up calling it the Morning Room, because we sat there in the morning, drank our coffee, and read. Nautilus sounds great. I’d really like to find a way to get, but I think it would require an additional streaming service. 🙄

  11. I love seeing people breaking away from the traditional kitchen, living room, dining room set up! I mean, how much time per day do we spend eating? 15 minutes per meal so 45 minutes total? We don’t need a whole room for that!!! We need a room where we can scroll Tiktok, read books, play video games, and work on projects and stuff without Mom nagging us to “clear the table for dinner”.What color are you thinking of painting your Whatever / Anything & Everything Room?

    1. It’s been so helpful for us, and really a much better use of the space. We have so much space now just for living! We are going to be rather neutral and boring with the color – Swiss Coffee. However, I love this color and how it pairs with vibrant accents and furniture against it. Lol.
