Thursday Morning Coffee Catch Up

Hello everyone!! I am feeling pretty good this morning – I had an actual whole night of sleep and it was amazing. I feel ready to take on the world! Or maybe just my patch of the world. That works too.

We are still at home, and going a bit stir crazy. Wyatt is feeling pretty much back to normal but still has all of the restrictions, which is a difficult pairing. But we are managing. He has really only felt this good beginning this week, and I am so happy that we have gotten to this stage. I just need to shift gears now a bit and figure out this new conundrum. We will get it though. We are through the worst of it now, thank goodness.

His recovery timed nicely with the completion of his Little Free Library! We had the grand opening on Sunday, and Wyatt was so happy and proud of it. We had goodie bags for the kids who came, and my dad came and brought balloons.

Our first visitors were two of my nieces, Mermaid Girl and Little Bit! They promptly plopped down on the lawn and got busy with their goodie bags, and flipped through books. Then we had some friends stop by with their children, and our little neighbor girl has been flitting back and forth to it all week. I need to find a way to keep the inventory “fresh” for the kids who come a lot, like the neighbor girl. Wyatt even got a super cute card from some friends down the street.

It was a really good day!

I joined a Little Free Library group on Facebook, and posted about our new library, and asked for suggestions on how to keep the momentum going, and they were all so welcoming and had great ideas. Just what I would expect from people who love books! One person suggested that I get a map and have Wyatt mark on the map where everyone who responded to my post has charters, or show him how to use the LFL map, which I didn’t even think about doing. Other suggestions were to post on the NextDoor App, in our city’s Buy Nothing group, and to start a FB page just for his library. So I guess I will be doing all of that pretty soon.

Right now though, I am busy planning the school year, or at least up to December. I need organization to stay on track with life, so I have been working very hard this week on plans. I have a good chunk finished and I am pretty excited about how our fall is shaping up. We do have two days of physical therapy that we will be working around as well, as part of Wyatt’s recovery. I am leaving those days light for now.

And because I am who I am, and don’t have enough projects in my life, we made a big change with Cub Scouts. We ended up deciding as a group to continue meeting and doing all of our fun stuff and community work, basically stay the same as what we were doing, but without the umbrella of Cub Scouts. So we are now starting from scratch, sort of. I am going to register our group as a nonprofit organization with the state, and get a name and motto and oath and all that together, so that the kids can still have the bond of an organization, and then also design some ranks and badges. I have a few ideas percolating..

And then in the midst of all this, my long suffering husband turned 50!! I am unsure how he is 50, it feels like we are still the teenagers we were when we started dating. We didn’t do much to celebrate this week, but we are hoping to go out together this weekend. We are just now feeling comfortable leaving Wyatt with a grandparent for an hour or two without us. It will be nice to go out together, even for a short time. I am thinking a hike and a drink somewhere might be fun.

And I feel like I have prattled on long enough this morning! I hope that whatever you all do today, that you do something that makes you smile!

That library turned out great! I love all the wonderful ideas you got from the Facebook group too. It definitely sounds like you have lots of plans in the work. I hope you get out for a celebratory date night soon. 50 is definitely one to celebrate!

    1. I agree!! This year is our 25th wedding anniversary and we both turn 50. (eek!) We had planned that trip out East to Providence to celebrate all three of these, but then surgery happened. We will have to do something though, it feels weird just having not done anything!

      And thank you!

  2. I am so excited your little library! I love all the photos and how happy Wyatt is!! I told The Boy about it and how I was jealous, etc. and he just sighed heavily. Looks like I am going to have to order one online and do it on my own! That is so cool about the Facebook group and all the ideas they gave!

    1. Lol! I love his heavy sigh. Do it! Your birthday is coming! We are having a lot of fun with it, just planning different things to put in there for holidays and seasons (that is me, Wyatt doesn’t care about that), putting a geocache near it (Billy and Wyatt) – it is fun.

What a beautiful “Little Free Library” Billy built. He is a true Renaissance man. Please wish him a happy birthday for me. I hope you are able to celebrate and have a drink and maybe a really decadent dessert! I love the way your whole family and community pitched in. I would also check with the library to see if they have any books they’re getting rid of (maybe even some schools). How exciting and wonderful you are getting back to “normal.” I love that you are taking your little group even farther. Cub Scouts is a great organization, but if it wasn’t meeting your needs, a change is good. And, who better to organize it than you! You are one of the most creative people I know!

    1. He is very talented. It is sort of crazy how he can just do things. It’s good though because I am full of ideas for him to make. I told him his next project is a wall of shelves in our multi-purpose room. And checking with the library is a good idea!

I really still support the Scouts. They are a wonderful organization for sure. They were just becoming very cost prohibitive for families. I am sad to leave it because I loved Wyatt being a part of something that is established, but at the same time, he doesn’t care about that. He enjoys being with his friends and doing the activities, and that is what matters. And thank you Marsha!

  4. The Little Free Library story makes me smile so big every time I see those pictures – Wyatt has a wonderful little addition to the LFL universe 😀

Wow, go you on the “non-Scouts scouts”!!! That’s a huge undertaking, but also such a cool one I think 🙂 You’ll get it all sorted and do amazingly

Happy 50th Birthday to Billy! It’s truly shocking to Mr and I as well how old we’ve gotten now – we met the summer we turned 17/20 and this year turned 40/43! Like how in the world??? No way has it been that long, we’ve got to still be babies right? 🙂

    1. Thank you so much Rebecca!! His little official sign came today, so we are going to put it on. We love going out to see if there are books gone or new books inside.

I may have lost my mind but it will work out! Lol.

Thank you! Billy and I are so old now. 😦 Lol. We met in third grade but really didn’t hang out until we were 17, and started dating. I think we are still that young but the years tell me differently. Wyatt keeps us young!

  5. Isn’t it amazing what a good night’s sleep can do! I rarely sleep through the night anymore, so when I do, I’m shocked at how it feels. 😉 Hope you and your husband find a fun outing to celebrate his 50th – that’s a big birthday!

    1. I felt so refreshed! It was awesome. Lol. We found a live show that is in September that we both think looks cool, so we bought tickets to it, and that is going to be our outing. Lol. It is an Edgar Allan Poe live reading and it looks really neat.

  7. Hooray for the LFL! And that’s interesting about the Scouts, good luck with all the admin. I know what you mean about being married to a 50 (+) year-old – we have only been together since I was 30 but I look and I’m married to some MAN with grey hair …!!
