Hello everyone! We have been working on projects around here like maniacs, but we are getting things done. Billy has been working outside on the yard, while I have been neglecting the house while I work on school and scout stuff for next fall (I don’t want to be planning after Wyatt’s surgery), handling Wyatt’s prehab exercises, and finishing up the bit of school we have left. I need to clean today…..
What I have read lately:

Let me start with Anywhere You Go. I wanted to like this one so much, but I didn’t. It is a LGBTQ retelling of The Holiday, which is such a fun premise. However, I felt like Goldilocks. One of the relationships moved way too fast for me – I don’t like the trope of insta-love – and the other was way too slow! Lol. I ended up DNFing it.
Beaches, Bungalows, and Burglaries was another one that I didn’t love, but I did enjoy it. Like, not love. I am going to read the next one though, because I am curious about where this series goes. So I guess that says something.
Of Salt and Shore however, was amazing. It is a middle grade but wow, it was fantastic. It is translated from Dutch (the OG title is Lampje) At first, I didn’t know if I was going to like it. It has some darkness swirling around in it, but the story that evolved was a beautiful tale of friendship and found family and loyalty. I just loved this one, and so far it is one of the best books I have read all year.
Reading this weekish:

What we are watching:
We are still watching Wheel of Time, although it was cancelled. Billy is bummed, but knew it was probably coming.
We also finished up The Brokenwood Mysteries, and I will have to be sad now until more come out. It is my favorite show and it is so short!
We also started Yellowjackets, which I have been wanting to watch for ages, and we are obsessed. However, if you don’t know much about it, it is pretty gory, just wanted to put that out there. Juliette Lewis and Christina Ricci are amazing in it. I love Ricci in anything and I don’t think I appreciated Lewis enough back in the day, but her performance in this is fantastic.
We haven’t had a night where we can watch a movie together (other than movies with Wyatt earlier in the evening, we just watched the OG Lilo and Stitch which he loved!), so we are still waiting to watch the first two on our list, Holland with Nicole Kidman and Wait Until Dark with Hepburn.
And that is it from me today! I hope that whatever you do today, you do something that makes you smile!
I’d like to check out Holland. Have you seen Lioness? Nicloe Kidman plays an excellent role. I can’t wait to get season 2.

I have not seen Lioness!! I will have to look it up!

I’ve been disappointed in some of the summer looking cozies and rom coms. It’s hard to write new books that don’t seem like a rehash of the old. Have a good week.

I was pretty bummed about that book. It looked so cute! It just was too extreme – too instalove, too slow burn lol.

We watched “Field of Dreams” last night. I cried. I always do!

I love that movie so much. One of my summer favorites.

That’s interesting when three books in a row provide such different reading experiences. I’m glad that one was truly amazing!

Glad you enjoyed Of Salt and Shore. I don’t think I have read a translated work, but I don’t know for sure. I hope you all have a great weekend. When is Wyatt having surgery?

Thank you Cindy. Wyatt has surgery July 9th. 😦 We had a great weekend! Lots of outside time.
Of Salt and Shore was a great read. It was so moving and complex and emotional in places. Lol. And it was middle grade!

I’m glad Of Salt and Shore turned out to be such a good reads.
I have been curious about Wheel of Time. It’s a book series I’ve wanted to try, too.
Good luck in getting everything you need to do done.

Billy LOVES the Wheel of Time books. Now he has to fill me in on the whole rest of the series!
Of Salt and Shore was such a good read. I was surprised at how good it was honestly.

I love planning as far ahead as I can, partly because I just love planning. I hope everything goes well for Wyatt.

I love to plan too. Lol. It is one thing I can do in this situation too, that makes me feel a bit more in control.

I read Beaches, Bungalows, and Burglaries too and thought it was decent enough to keep my interest and while I’ve thought about reading the second book in the series… I haven’t yet. I’m interested to hear what you think of God of the Woods. I thought it was pretty good but didn’t quite live up to all the hype.

That is exactly how I felt! I might read the second one this summer since the first was such an easy read.
Ooo now I am really curious!! I am going to try to get to the library today to pick it up but it might be tomorrow.

I’m watching the new season of Kidman in Nine Perfect Strangers. I wonder if she ever plays a normal person – her characters are all very bizarre to me.

I think we only have one or two episodes left. Now my husband will have to fill me in on the rest of the series – or at least how it ends!

I haven’t read any of these books, but I have 600 pages left in my 800 page book! Is there anything I can do to help you in any way prior to Wyatt’s surgery? Please let me know. I love Yellowjackets! It’s so good. Did you watch Two and a Half Men? Shauna is Rose from that show! I love Christina Ricci in this, too! I need to see if we’re caught up with it.

Oh my gosh that book would maybe make me cry! Lol.
We are obsessed with Yellowjackets! It is so good and so crazy!! We are only a few episodes in though. We never watched Two and a Half Men. I really like Shauna’s character. And Christina Ricci is awesome. I love her in anything.
And thank you so much for offering to help Marsha. That is so kind of you!! Just keep praying over him. I am very nervous about this whole thing, the surgery, the recovery. Ugh. I hope that all is well with you guys and your own hip surgery patient!

Sounds like you are keeping busy. Your books look good. I’m sorry that you didn’t enjoy Anywhere You Go, but glad you found a winner in Of Salt and Shore. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

Thanks Kathy! Of Salt and Shore was so good. I had so many emotions while reading it, and found it hard to believe sometimes it was a middle grade. It is excellent, and definitely feel it is a great read for more mature middle graders.

I enjoy Tonya Kappes’ series. I listened to the first few on audio and will eventually get back to it. I haven’t watched Wheel of Time, but I was thinking of binging it. I know it was cancelled, though. That’s too bad.
I hope you enjoy your reading and have a great week!

I think that I would have liked it a bit more had it had more to it, if that makes sense. It was only the first in the series, and I liked everything about it except I felt there should be more, so I am going to keep reading it. 🙂

Oof, that pink drip on the last book makes me feel icky! I have just read two good and two blah NetGalley books, not blah enough not to finish them, though …

Lol!! I just picked that one up at the library the other day! I didn’t want to start it yet though, since we had Wyatt’s EEG and didn’t want to be involved in a book that might be hard to put down. Lol. I took a romance novel and it was the perfect choice. It was super cute and entertaining but easy to put down and pick back up frequently. I am sorry you had two blah books!

I had a book I recently struggled to get through because it was a review book. I ended up skimming to finish. I will look up that middle grade book. I look for books for my 10 yr old grandson. I think it’s probably a little advanced for my 7 yr old granddaughter, but who knows. I’ll also look up The Brokenwood Mysteries. I’m always searching for something good to watch. Seems like a lot of mediocre stuff on TV. Hope all the prep and surgery goes well for Wyatt! Have a lovely week, Erin!

Sometimes I have a hard time with review books.
Of Salt and Shore was so good. But it did have some trigger warnings – child abuse, alcoholism, otherism. If you want to know more send me an email. I would be happy to fill you in.
I love The Brokenwood Mysteries! We also really like Beyond Paradise (BritBox), Yellowjackets (horror on Showtime/Prime), Dark Winds (Netflix).
