Hey everyone! Just a quick post today!

Read Last Week:

I found myself not having as much time to read last week as I anticipated, and honestly I’ve been way too distracted by the news to read, but I did finish my buddy read, Redwall, with Billy! We had a nice discussion about it on the way to my dad’s yesterday. It was a fun little read, and we both enjoyed it.

Reading This Week:

I am hoping to read more, sew more, and doomscroll less this week, and I think these two books will be perfect to help in my mission. Under Loch and Key looks adorable and I think that I could use some Korean healing fiction as well, with The Healing Season of Pottery.

Watching:

Billy and I have been watching Severance. It is super duper weird and it took me a few episodes to really get hooked, but now I am all in. I hate hate the design aesthetic though for inside Lumon however; I know that there is a reason for it, and it is not meant to make us feel good or be happy, and for me, it really does feel icky. The show though, I love. My friend Kelly and I were talking about this show the other day and she said if we were characters in the show, I would be Helly and she would be Mark, in terms of personality. Lol. She’s not wrong. Then we were having fun coming up with our Wellness Center “Your outie likes…” statements.

It’s just so very uncomfortable and plain and sterile. I do love green though.

Tonight we are supposed to watch a movie. I think we might skip it and watch Severance though!

And you guys, I am probably way behind on discovering this, but the website Bookshop.org is my new place to buy books, besides used book sites and local stores. The cool thing about Bookshop.org is that you can pick your local bookstore as your store, and a portion of the money you spend on Bookshop.org is given to your local bookstore! So you can still support your local small bookstore this way! I do have an affiliate account, but I don’t think you need to do that part to order and choose a store. However, if you don’t have a store to support, feel free to order through mine and support Brooks Books! They are my favorite local bookstore and they sell a mix of used and new books in the physical store. They also support other local businesses by giving smaller sellers space in their shop to sell things, as well as providing events and classes to the community.

And that is about it from me today! I hope that whatever you do, you do at least one small thing that makes you smile. Stay safe everyone!

  1. (Let me try again. The second comment seems to post okay.)

I discovered an independent bookshop in Galveston a few weeks ago. I am now determined to buy as many books as I can from this shop vs. the online store.

I added Healing Season of Pottery to my wishlist.

  2. Bookstore.org sounds interesting. Are the books in good condition? I need to check out Redwall. I like Brian Jacques art but never read anything by him. Always looking for something to inspire reading for the boys.

    1. They are! I love their mission, and makes supporting a small business so much easier.

I think the boys might enjoy Redwall, although I can’t remember their ages. I would say it is a geared for late elementary ages, like 9 or 10. Wyatt is not usually a huge fan of realistic fiction, I have found (besides Mr. Putter and Tabby!) but he does like anthropomorphic fiction a lot. Just like his mother, I guess. Hmmmm. Wyatt really liked Fantastic Mr. Fox. Heartwood Hotel. Narwhal and Jelly. He likes silly books and books with animals, mainly.

  3. I still don’t have Severance but am eager to try it. We are trying to finish Burn Notice. Yea for Redwall. So many good memories of those books.

      1. That’s what got our son reading the books. I started reading the first one to him and then he wanted to read them on his own. Brighten their horizons!

  4. I love bookshop.org! I also use libro.fm which is kind of like bookshop.org but for audio books. I get in the bad habit of doomscrolling and am trying to lessen it this year as well. I’m really curious about The Healing Season of Pottery and Under Loch and Key looks adorable. I hope you have a wonderful week!

  5. Is S2 of Severance out? I watched S1 but I don’t remember much about it! Has it been that long?? Let me check my TV Time app. YES S2 is out and I finished S1 on May 14, 2022 so almost 3 years ago. I’ll need to watch a recap before I continue.

  6. I’ve heard about bookshiop.org but haven’t tried it. Isn’t it the new way for people to buy ebooks through local stores instead of Amazon though? I’ve been watching too much tv and need to get back to more reading, if I can stop being moody.

  7. Both of your book selections this week look like great reads. I wouldn’t say I doomscroll but I am taking a step back from Instagram. Sounds like I need to get involved with Bookshop.org. I hope you have a wonderful week!

  8. I have been reading for docent training. It is not fun reading at all. I don’t know the expectations of the professor who has assigned it so I don’t know whether or not to take notes. It’s not like I’m going to get a grade on it! Old habits die hard, right? I also finished Tea for Two by Amor Towles. I really like his writing and need to get back to watching “A Gentleman in Moscow.” I stopped the doomscrolling last week and have felt much better. I don’t know if that’s the equivalent of putting my head in the sand or not, but my brain feels better.

    1. Lol!!! I would be the same way if I were in a class!! I am taking a three day leadership advocacy training class next week, and I am super nervous. I will be taking notes though, that is really a part of how I process information. Lol.

We want to watch A Gentleman in Moscow – we are sucked into Severance right now though.

And I need to stick my head in the sand a bit more, I think.

I am glad you and Billy enjoyed Redwall! I didn’t get much reading done this past week either. I hope this week will be better, especially since I have a book club coming up to attend and I haven’t started the book. It took me awhile to get into Severance too. We hope to catch the second season at some point, but it probably won’t be for awhile. I hope you have a good week, Erin!

  10. You don’t need an affiliate account at bookshop.org to use it – well, not in the UK anyway. I have my local bookshop set up and will order from them when I want to send a pile of books to my best friend as they offer free postage over a certain amount. You can have an affiliate account and make money yourself but I would rather it went to the lovely local folk so happy to do that.

    1. I wondered about that too, so I looked into and all of the profits still go to the bookstore regardless of whether it is affiliate or not, thank goodness. I mean, I need to earn a little extra but I wouldn’t want to take profit from a small business. Lol. I love their mission!!

    2. And now I am worried that sounded like I was all about the money, which I am absolutely not. I always do the affiliate things and then end up making about $1.00 a year which is fine, because I don’t like to push or sell things.

I hope things are going ok for you! You’ve been on my mind lately!

      1. Oh no, not at all! I’ve tried the odd one in the past and made nothing for a load of admin! And not too bad, thanks, getting things sorted slowly and doing a nice lot of running!
