Hello everyone! I hope you are all doing well. We had a week where we stayed very close to home this past week, and it was nice to stay all cozy and hunker down with school and reading and baking.

Read Last Week:

This one was pretty good! It is the first in the series and I feel it could have been honed a bit better, but it was still a good read. I am for sure going to read the next in the series as well! Interesting characters and premise, just a bit clunky in parts, which is ok for the first book in a series I think!

Reading This Week:

So I have two wildly different books I am choosing between this week.

I am not sure which I am in the mood for! I guess I will find out when I start reading.

I am also buddy reading a book with Billy! I love when we do this.

I am so excited!

Watching:

Billy and I started a show called High Potential. It is entertaining but .. I am not 100% sold on it yet. It is based off a French show named HPI Haut Potentiel Intellectuel. It’s not a bad show but the main character can be a bit annoying, and some of the effects, etc that the show employs are just cheesy, and not in a good way, the way Murdoch is. However, I gave it a shot.

Tonight we are watching Argylle, starring one of my favorite actors, Sam Rockwell. Billy always knows he can get me to watch a movie I might be dragging my feet on if he mentions Sam Rockwell is in it. Argylle also stars Henry Cavill, another actor I really love.

And that is it from me this morning! Stay safe out there everyone!

  1. I remember taking my sons to meet Brian Jacques when he came to Houston one year. They fell in love with the Redwall books. Jacques had a fantastic reading voice—I think he was an actor, too.

Yes, cozy and hunkering down seems like a great plan for Cold. Today it is muggy and warm, and now I’m complaining about that. Sigh.

We’re in the midst of some cozy days, too, although I did manage a couple of outdoor walks, which was a nice change of scenery.

I like the idea of a series set in Door County. I’ve planned trips there but always ended up somewhere else. It would be fun to go there through novels.

  3. So funny you mentioned Redwall. I had every single one of his books and our son devoured them. Last year I had them all sent to him for his home library. He’s in Nebraska now and will probably stay there.

I am interested in that Healing Season of Pottery book.

  4. Seeing that cover brought back many fond memories – my daughter was a HUGE fan of the Redwall series:)). I’m intrigued that the two books you’ve got lined up are so VERY different. I hope you enjoy whichever one you go for!

    1. We just finished the first season! I think it has a good premise and ideas. I just think they need to tone some stuff down and leave some stuff out. Like the little numbers that showed up around screen when Morgan was thinking, like in Beautiful Mind and The Da Vinci Code.

I only know the French original, we just got the fourth season of it on TV a few weeks ago.As I often use shows as background noise, I’m usually a bit more forgiving, but if the US version is anything like the French, yes, it can get annoying. Does she also have that big family in the US one?The deductions, however, are always really interesting. Cat https://catswire.blogspot.com/

    1. There are parts I like and parts I don’t like. The parts I dislike are more production decisions, like displaying all sort of numbers on the screen when Morgan is thinking. Or when Morgan used a phone that had been in evidence for three weeks and it still worked and wasn’t dead.

I like High Potential in part because she has to navigate being an investigator and a single mom and I don’t think we see that too much. I am seeing the Grady Hendrix book everywhere. I’ll take that as a sign I need to read it!

    1. There are definitely parts I like and dislike. Most of the dislikes are just weird production decisions, like the glowing numbers around Morgan in one episode as she was thinking, like in The Da Vinci code. Or in one episode she pulled a phone out of an evidence box that had been there three weeks and it worked perfectly. I do like the character of Morgan though, and her struggles and that she is a single mom doing that job. I also like the other characters and the actors.

Yeah Sam Rockwell has been in many good films! I liked the movies Three Billboards, Vice, and Frost/Nixon. He can do comedy and drama. He’s a very versatile actor. Have a great week.

Is that the latest Grady Hendryx book? I cannot even imagine what it will be like! I love him, but sometimes…well, you know what I mean! You are going to think me very backward, but I’ve never seen anything with Sam Rockwell in it! I thought you were talking about the guy from Jurassic Park (btw…Sam Neill). But, Henry Cavill…yes, please!

    1. It is the new one! I have decided against that one for now. I am not feeling it. Too much at the current moment for me.

Lol! I think he is an actor that is sort of under the radar for some reason. I think you would like him. I love to watch clips of him dancing, and he manages to do little dances in all of his movies. And yes, Henry Cavill!!!

  9. I hope you enjoyed Argylle and that the buddy read goes well. I’ve heard of the series but I don’t really know much about it 🙈 it’ll be interesting to see which of those two books you end up going for too. I’ve seen a couple of reviews for the Witchcraft one but hadn’t heard of the pottery one before. Whichever you pick/picked enjoy.

    1. I am a third of the way through Redwall and it is a really fun read. My time to read this week has been very limited for some reason and it is making me sad! Lol. Argylle was really good too! I love Sam Rockwell. It was a bit long, and there was a scene they could have done away with or shortened in my opinion but overall it was entertaining!

      1. That’s great that it’s going well but I’m sorry to hear about your reading time. I’ve not found much time for it recently either but I did finally start a book this morning.
I’m glad you enjoyed the film on the whole too 😊 I don’t actually think I’ve seen any of the recent films he’s been in 🤔 I had a quick look at his filmography and I think the last thing I saw that he was in is Charlie’s Angels 😂

I see you went with The Healing Season Of Pottery, which does look good! Grady Hendrix’s book is on my wish list. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read by him so far. I’m sure you’ll get to it when the mood is right–and hopefully you will enjoy it. 🙂 I’ve seen ads for High Potential but haven’t watched it. My daughter convinced my husband and I to watch an anime about a high school volleyball team, so we’ve been watching that. I hope you have a great week, Erin!

  11. the selection you have for this week do you look like a tough choice. They both look good for different reasons. We love High Potential! We find the cheesy nature entertaining. But we love shows like Monk, Psych, The Mentalist etc. Detective with a little bit of cheese. Have a great week!

    1. Now, I really love a cheesy show. Ask Lisa. Lol. But It was more like…the choices someone else made, like the flashing numbers on the screen more than the show itself. We finished up season one and I am looking forward to where season 2 takes us. Have you seen Murdoch Mysteries? I absolutely love that one!!!

I ended up choosing the pottery book. Lol.
