Hello everyone! It’s the first Sunday post of the new year!
The last few days we have been wrapping up the holidays, putting our house back to normal, and having a few last hurrahs before school starts tomorrow.
I also started the year out with two books I really enjoyed!

I got both of these for Christmas, and I was pretty excited about both of them! The Woodsmoke Women’s Book of Spells was absolutely perfect for this time of year, and full of mystery and magic. I loved it. Dead Voices is from a middle grade series and this series is actually a little scary in parts. Lol. Maybe because the author also wrote The Bear and the Nightingale, which also sort of gave me the creeps in parts.
Reading This Week:

My intention this week is to read Dead of Winter. I just have a ton of books here to read – books from my birthday still, from Christmas, the library. I almost have too many to decide! However, this one finally came in for me from the library so I am hoping to begin with this one. And the weather here is not snowy, but it is super cold so I feel like it will be a perfect time to read it and really get wrapped up in the atmosphere.

My Last Christmas Coffee Catch Up of 2024
Happy New Year! Happy January!
Watching and Making:
Billy and I have been watching the American Ghosts the past few days, catching up on it. We also watched the newest season of McDonald and Dodds. It was really a spectacular season. As far as movies, we watched The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, which made it under the wire as one of my favorite movies of 2024!
As for what we have been making, Billy has been working on some leatherworking projects, while I started a new embroidery with a unicorn and woodland animals. It is so cute.
And, Lisa at Boondock Rambling and I have our first Cozy Crafternoon this Saturday at 1pm EST. If you would like to sign up just send me an email at crackercrumblife@gmail.com, and I will add you to our Zoom! We are just hoping to break up these wintery days after Christmas and avoid the blahs. We will just chat and craft and color and do whatever!

I hope that you all have a happy day today!
How did I not know The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry was made into a movie, I’m going to search that out ASAP!
Wishing you a great reading week

Wait, we have a ton of snow and you don’t? Are you supposed to get anything this weekend? Have a great week and enjoy your books.

We don’t have any!! Zero. Zilch! I told my husband I think we may have to travel to see snow this year. Michigan has snow, just not our tiny corner of the state. 😦 I am hoping for some snow hopefully this week!

That is surprising! But, it’s still early in the winter 😉

I’ve wanted to read that Darcy Coates book but haven’t gotten around to it yet. I do have Rachel Greenlaw book out from the library right now. I would love to see a picture of your embroidery. Mr. Barb and mine’s main project this past week has been putting his new weight room equipment together – not fun! Hope you have a wonderful week.

I’ve been waiting to read this Darcy Coates and I had to wait so long for my turn at the library. Lol. I hope you enjoy the Greenlaw book as much as I did!
I am such a newbie at it! I try hard though. Lol. I know, my week has been helping my kiddo assemble a lot of his Christmas gifts. Lol

I didn’t know about The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry was a movie! I’m going to have to look for it because my DVR didn’t record the first episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race so I have to wait until next Friday! I just finished Somewhere Beyond the Sea by T J Klune. I’m still trying to decide if I liked it or not. I’m reading Table for Two by Amor Towles and watching A Gentleman in Moscow based on his book. I just can’t get into it for some reason, but I remember feeling the same way about the book and ended up loving it. I can’t wait for next Saturday! My granddaughter wants a new hat so that’s what I’ll be doing.

It was on Amazon! I hope you found it. It was such a wonderful movie. I didn’t read the book, although I heard that was amazing too.
I haven’t read that one yet. I am so slow to read sequels of books that I love because I never know if the follow up is as good.
Oo we want to watch A Gentleman in Moscow. Thanks for reminding me!
I am excited too!

I will look for Storied Life. We’ve actually been a little uncertain lately about what we are going to watch next.
I’ll send you an email about the Cozy Crafternoon. I plan to start a Junk Journal (maybe for the year?) and I’d love to join in.

The Dead of Winter cover would have my interest at a book store. Covers can get you pick up a book, at least for me. I hope you’ll share some of your embroidery photos!

I finished Dead of Winter today! It wasn’t too bad, but it was gory. Bleh. A little more than I anticipated actually.
Thanks Tina! I am not that great at it but I love doing it!

The books you got for Christmas look and sound amazing! Ghosts is one of our favorites. I don’t watch a lot of tv but that’s something I watch without reading a book at the same time. I told my son that I’m busy on Saturday because I’m going to be doing some crafts with some friends via Zoom. He said, “I hope they’re calling it a crafternoon,” I let him know that’s exactly what it’s called!

Oh my gosh I love it too!! Are you all caught up? We think the last two episodes were the best they have ever had!!
Your son and I share a similar sense of humor!! LOL. I told Lisa I thought we should call it a crafternoon.

The Katherine Arden looks really good! I read another book by her and really enjoyed it and I could see how she would write a fantastic middle grade. The Darcy Coates looks really good and perfect for right now when it’s stupid cold outside. I hope you’re having a great week!

She is a good writer! I really liked that one, and it was really winter atmospheric too. The Darcy Coates was sort of a disappointment. 😦 I don’t usually say that about books honestly but it didn’t quite do it for me. Thanks Katherine, I hope you are too!
