Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl
Today’s Prompt: Covers with [Item] on the Cover (You choose the item! It can be anything at all.)
Hello everyone!! I had a hard choosing this week – foxes or rabbits? I love them both and knew I wanted to pick one of them. Rabbits won out in the end, since my favorite book is Watership Down.
And because of that, it will lead the list!

I love this edition of Watership Down! I actually am asking Billy for it for Christmas. It is a tradition that he buys me a new copy for either my birthday or Christmas and this is the one that my heart is set on this year.

I absolutely loved The White Hare by Jane Johnson. It really set me in mind of a book written by Mary Stewart or Barbara Michaels, two of my favorites.
Our Crooked Hearts and Bunny were both bizarre and weird but I loved them both. Bunny especially felt like some crazy strange trip! Why are rabbits featured so heavily in horror novels and thrillers? Are they scary?

Speaking of horror and rabbits, I had to include Winterset Hollow. I never quite made it through this book but I need to try again. Although it is scary!!
Rabbit Hill I read a while ago, but I remember thinking it was a very good read and I am planning on reading it with Wyatt this spring, along with the next one on the list, The Remarkable Rescue at Milkweed Meadow.

I could not make this list without including these three – The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, The Velveteen Rabbit, and The Penderwicks. I love all three of them! The Velveteen Rabbit though makes me sob, and it made me cry even as a little girl. I never wanted to make my toys feel bad after that. And can someone tell me what a Skin Horse is because it sounds terrifying.
And a bonus eleventh book!

I absolutely love John Lewis-Stempel and this book was no exception. Hands down, he is one of my favorite nature writers.
And there we have it! All of my favorite books with rabbits on the cover!

I haven’t read most of these but I certainly adore every single cover. But then, they are rabbits!
Rabbits are the best!!
wow, well done!
I had to check: I have to go back to March 2023 to find a rabbit on the books I have read. You might actually enjoy it. Check it here: Fable Comics: https://wordsandpeace.com/2023/03/12/sunday-post-82-03-12-2023/
I went more traditional:

Thank you! And oo I will check it out!!
Aww, rabbits are my favourite animal. Bravo on this post.
I love them too! And thank you!
Awesome choices! I have Watership Down too. My topic is wider–animals on the cover–but I have an older cover (I think) of WD than the one above, which is beautiful. Here’s my TTT: https://bonniereadsandwrites.com/2024/11/05/top-ten-tuesday-books-with-animals-on-the-cover/
The cover you used was the cover on the first copy that I ever read of Watership Down. Classic! I collect different copies now. 🙂
I’m surprised at no Redwall, but mice may be more predominate than that. XD
I have never read Redwall which is nuts because I love books with animal main characters.
They’re fun! Loved them when I was younger. The first one (Redwall itself) is a little different than the rest because Jacques was still world-building.
I haven’t thought about Rabbit Hill in forever! I loved that once upon a time … and the Penderwicks are top-notch fun 😀
I know! I love The Penderwicks! Wyatt is not interested in them sadly. Lol.
What a really cute topic! And I love the variety you managed to find 🙂
Thank you!
Rabbits are one of my favorite critters, so excellent choice!
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
I love rabbits too! (and foxes) I will be popping by!
I love rabbits, so I love this idea! I haven’t read any of these books before, but The White Hare has such a gorgeous cover 🙂
If you’d like to visit, here’s my TTT: https://thebooklorefairy.blogspot.com/2024/11/top-ten-tuesday-books-with-swords-on-the-cover.html
Thank you! I love them too!
The White Hare was such a good book. It was one of my favorites the year I read it.
Awww. Love the bunnies! The Velveteen Rabbit is a favorite. Happy Tuesday!
Thanks Stephanie! This was fun to put together! The Velveteen Rabbit is such a good book. 🙂
Omg I love these! I never knew there were so many books with rabbits on the cover, even though I shouldn’t be surprised because there are some amazing books here!

Thanks Haze!! I know, I was surprised too honestly!
My pick probably would have been beaches or books on the cover; I’m a sucker for a good book set in a beach town or a bookstore or a library… though I did read Watership down & the Velveteen Rabbit.
Oo yes a bookstore or a library setting always gets my attention! I love Watership Down!!
These are great. Rabbits are so cute. Great choices for the covers.
Thank you!
Oh, I have been meaning to tell you about a new rabbit book coming out next year. This post reminded me.

x The Captain
Thank you!! I will have to read that one!!
So fun!! We LOVE the Penderwicks!!!
Fabulous idea. I loved The White Hare. And fun fact: Bright Eyes was the first single I ever bought!
Here’s mine (belatedly) for this week: https://portobellobookblog.com/2024/11/05/top-ten-tuesday-5th-november-2024-books-with-trees-on-the-cover-toptentuesday-amreading-bookrecommendations-tuesdaybookblog/
The White Hare was awesome!! I haven’t talked to anyone else who has read it, so I am glad to hear that you loved it too!
The Penderwicks are such fun books!!
I love the variety of genres you have on your list this week.

I haven’t read any of these LOL.

Lol!! There are just so many books out there in the world!!
Hurray for rabbits! I love seeing all these covers.
Next time I’d be happy if you did foxes, too.
Thanks!!! I wonder how many covers with foxes I could find?
Ha! I should have guessed you would pick rabbits. Such a cool idea and love these different covers.
Lol! And thank you Lisa!!
I forgot about your love for rabbits. I was betting on foxes! Love all these covers, though!

Lol!! It was a toss up between the two, rabbits or foxes. Watership Down tipped the scale though.
I adore rabbits! Great choice. I’ve still not read The Velveteen Rabbit.
Thanks Carla!! And aren’t they just the cutest!!
When I lived more out in the desert, we had bunnies in our yard all the time. It was so fun to watch them. I miss that now that we live more in the city. Rabbits do seem to be really popular on book covers. Great list!
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

Awww I love that!!! We used to see them here all the time, especially when I had a dog that would try to hunt them. It seemed like when she passed away we never had anymore rabbits either. Super weird.
Of these books, I only know Watership Down (and have the old German edition whose cover was in one of the comments), one of my favorites although it’s so dark. Do you know the animated movie? Honestly traumatizing and I always bawl at the end!
I even had two bunnies named after Watership Down characters.
Although I love rabbits, my choice for this would come as no surprise – cats! 😉

It does have its dark moments for sure. I find it so hopeful though, these rabbits who strike out on their own, against the odds, and end up better for it. It is a tough read though at times. I do remember that movie! I saw it as a kid and it was so traumatizing!!!!
And I am so jealous! Which two characters?
And lol!
The movie was even tougher to take than the book because those pictures from the beginning lingered in my mind, actually still do.
The two were Blackavar and Hyzenthlay. Hyzenthlay’s name fit very well, but my Blackavar was no warrior rabbit and no male. She was the best bunny mom you could ever imagine.
Blackavar is one of my very favorite characters and I always say if I ever get rabbits one will be named after him. I was trying to make a patchwork Blackavar but my sewing skills are letting me down. I love that those are the two names that you chose! Your bunny babies sound very sweet!
I need to read Winterset Hollow. I love the author’s posts on Facebook and bought the book a while back…Just gotta’ squeeze it in to the TBR. I hope you have a great weekend and thanks for visiting my blog earlier this week.
I am definitely going to revisit it. Maybe this winter. I love his posts too!
Our Crooked Hearts is one of my favorites. I’m glad to see it on your list.
Oh my gosh it was so good! I read that one and Bunny around the same time; it was a time of creepy bunnies.
Great list! I didn’t realize how many creepy books do have rabbits on or in them until looking at your spin on the topic. I really enjoyed Our Crooked Hearts, and this makes me think of What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher, with the especially creepy rabbits in that story.
Isn’t that so weird! I wonder why that is? I have not read What Moves the Dead but I am wanting too. And that Belladonna series – there is a fox cover and a book with a rabbit. How could I not read it?
Is there? I’ve only seen the covers with the character’s face and flowers for the Belladonna series!
Why I am not surprised you picked rabbits! What a fun prompt and what a fun list of books! I own Edward Tulane, was traumatized by The Velveteen Rabbit as a kid and enjoyed the Penderwicks but I haven’t come across the others.
Lol!!! I mean, it is a given if a book has a rabbit or a fox on it, I am going to at least pick it up. Then probably read it. Lol. Edward Tulane is such a good book. And yes, the Velveteen Rabbit is super traumatic! I remember I was supposed to read it to Wyatt with his kindergarten curriculum and I couldn’t bring myself to do it.
Great pick! I’ve seen animals done this week but none of them rabbits 😃 I think I’d probably struggle with findings rabbits on covers of my books because I can recall none, haha.
I will always pick up a book that has a rabbit on the cover. Lol. I’m look, ooo bunny. Lol. So I have quite a few.

There are a surprising amount of covers with rabbits on the covers. It is such a good animal to add though.
There really are!! I ended up adding a bunch to my TBR while I was picking out titles for this post. lol.
