Hello everyone!! I feel like I am draggin’ wagon today. I blame this weather, all overcast this morning. I have to get ready for church soon but I am procrastinating big time. I’ll have another cup of coffee and finish this post then I will get ready.

We had a pretty good week last week. Not anything exciting or noteworthy, just everyday life things. We did set up a fish tank for my kiddo who has wanted a fish, so that was our big event of the week. Wyatt is loving his fish Moon and his snail Sunny.

Read Last Week:

I had started listening to Tress last summer but then stopped because after listening I realized it was a book that I wanted to read, not listen to. And I am glad that I made that choice, because I loved Tress! Brandon Sanderson was inspired to write it after he and his family watched The Princess Bride (one of my all time favorite movies) during lockdown. His wife brought up a question about Buttercup and he started thinking about what it would be like if Buttercup went in search of Wesley rather than accepting that he was dead. And Tress was born. I absolutely loved it although I did find some parts a bit slow moving.

I started reading You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight as part of the Camp Spooky Readathon hosted by the Midnight Book Club on Instagram, and it was such a fast read that I finished it the same day I started. And it was a very busy day too! It was just one of those books that you could not put down and also was a quick read too. It was so good! Kaylnn Bayron said that she was a fan of those 80s slasher movies as a kid (just like me) and wanted to write her own homage to them. So she did! Very good read, not super gory.

Both of my books were inspired by movies! I just realized that.

Reading This Week:

In keeping with my trend of reading vintage or older middle age books, I picked up Dandelion Cottage from the library the other day. I am excited to read it! The author grew up in Michigan on the shores of Lake Superior, and the Dandelion Cottage is apparently a real cottage that is still there. I think I am also going to start At the Pond this week as well.

My Summer TBR

Coffee Catch Up: Our Life Aquatic

Hello June!

Watching:

Billy and I have been watching a few different things. My favorite that we have been watching is the newest season of The Brokenwood Mysteries. I just love that series so much. We are also watching When Calls the Heart and Palm Royale. I love the way Palm Royale looks and the cast is fire, but ooh it is hard for me to watch sometimes because of secondhand embarrassment and cringe. But the set and the costumes and the colors are just beautiful so that makes it worth it so far. This article is about the costumes if you want to read more.

We also watched The Fall Guy! I had been waiting for this movie to go to streaming and I was so excited. Now, I know this movie was panned but I loved it, and so did Billy. We both loved the tv show with Lee Majors as kids, and there were so many references and throwbacks to the 80s. We were so excited every time we caught one. We also think that the character Tom Ryder based his characters mannerisms and speech pattern after Matthew McConaughey, who I love. We both thought it was a lot of fun. I think people wanted nonstop action and this movie had a bit of a plot and a love story to boot.

And that is it from me today! I hope you all have a wonderful day!

  1. I enjoyed havong a fish tank when I was a child. It was nice to watch the fish and see which new additions would live in harmony. Nice reading for you this week!

  2. I did a little research, and I see that Dandelion Cottage was first published in 1904. It seems to be available through Project Gutenberg. I love to read old books set in places near where I live and have traveled.

I haven’t read one of Brandon Sanderson’s books yet, but I would like to.

Moon certainly is a beautiful fish…or is it handsome? I loved watching Palm Royale though I didn’t necessarily like the show. The sets and the costumes were just so god. It was really over the top, and I hope there is a second season. I want to know more of the backstories of a lot of the characters. Julia Duffy just cracked me up once I realized who she was.

    1. I feel like Moon would be ok with being called beautiful. I think he knows it by the way he is always swishing his tail around.

We are about three episodes in, and I do like the show. I get anxiety from watching shows sometimes where the characters are being underhanded but also are likeable. Julia Duffy is one reason I wanted to watch it!! We spent last summer watching Newhart and when I saw the cast I was like, that is Stephanie! Lol.

  4. Tress sounds very cool but I just don’t know if I can sit and read his epics. lol.

I will not read the other one because you know my issues with horror books. I know…I know..I’m so uncool.

I love that cover of Dandelion Cottage and now I totally want to read it.

When I told Warren you liked The Fall Guy he just kept saying, “I liked the show,” like Rain Man. Apparently he will not be watching the movie with me.

I hope your son is enjoying the fish and snail! I am glad you enjoyed Sanderson’s book! Sometimes format can make all the difference. You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight sounds like such a fun read! I am glad you enjoyed the Fall Guy movie. I grew up watching the show with my dad. I look forward to seeing the movie. I hope you enjoy your current reading and have a great week!

    1. He loves them! The first thing he does in the morning is check on them. It is so cute.

It really does! I am so happy that I chose to read Tress. And You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight was such a fast crazy read. It was horror but I didn’t think it was too over the top gory.

Yes! I did too! It was so fun to watch the movie and catch all the 80s references. Lol.

The fish can be so entertaining! Glad to hear Wyatt is enjoying them. 🙂 I want to see The Fall Guy! I love Emily Blunt. I also want to watch The Brokenwood Mysteries. I just clicked over to see how I can watch it. It sounds exactly like something we’d enjoy. I also think You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight would be a book I’d enjoy. I’ll see if they have an audio version. Love that cover of At the Pond! Have a wonderful week, Erin! 🙂

    1. Moon and Sunny are pretty fun to watch. That snail can get around! We were surprised at how fast he moves. Lol.

The Fall Guy was so fun! I love Emily Blunt too, and she was perfect in this role. I highly recommend Brokenwood too! I think it is on Acorn?

You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight was such a quick little read and I didn’t think it was too gross or scary, although there were some parts for sure that were..graphic. Not terrible though.

  7. I love Wyatt’s fish and the names he gave the aquarium buddies. 💦

I’ve never read any Sanderson, even though when I first started book blogging his Mistborn books were everywhere. 📚 I recently bought the first Stormlight Archive title for my son, on a recommendation from someone a similar age in a thread on my library’s Facebook page. Tess of the Emerald Sea sounds interesting to me. I’ll add it to Goodreads. I also adore the cover. 🤗

    Have a wonderful week. ☀

    1. I think he did a great job with the names too! After he went to bed last night, I had the aquarium light off and I could just catch glimpses of the silvery parts of Moon swimming around in there, and he did kind of remind me of the moon. Lol.

My husband loves Sanderson! He has listened to them all. He has wanted me to try Sanderson forever now and Tress was a good one to start with – meaning, not super long. Lol.

I am hit or miss with Sanderson. I’ve liked a few but bounced off a few more. I’ll have to give Tress a try. The Dandelion Cottage sounds interesting as I live on the shores of Lake Superior too. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  9. My son was sitting beside me and he was excited about the Sanderson book, LOL! He loves reading his books. They are not in my wheel house, but he and my husband both enjoy them. Have a great week and I hope Wyatt continues to enjoy his fish.
