The first 10 on the 10 of the year! This one is more freeform and I am looking forward to seeing what everyone else writes!
10 on the 10th is hosted by Marsha at Marsha in the Middle!

The opportunities are endless, aren’t they, when you stop and think about it. But now, what do I want to accomplish, learn, master, create, etc.?
Make time for hand sewing again.
I love the quietness of this activity, just sitting quietly, stitching away. I am not a very good hand stitcher, and I have had to ask Billy more than once to fix something I have hopelessly tangled, but for me it is about the act and not the finished product. I have a few WIP sitting around here that I need to get back to, including my giant rabbit and also my learn to embroider kit. Lol.
Take more walks, even if I am alone.
I started taking solo walks during Christmas break, whenever I could squeeze one in when Billy was home. They were so good for my soul and probably my health too. I don’t mind the cold if I dress right so I will walk in any weather – except cold rain. No thanks to that. And sometimes you spot something crazy on a walk – like the pig I saw in a backyard in my suburban neighborhood on Christmas Eve. Billy refused to believe me so we had to keep driving by until we spotted it again. And we did!

Reset, Reorganize, and Just Plain Get Rid of Stuff
We have too much stuff sitting around in boxes in our basement, and I want to clear out the things we no longer want or need. I started over this past weekend, listing sets of books by author and a lamp on our city’s Buy Nothing Group on Facebook. It makes me feel so much better to get rid of things by giving them away this way, to people who need it. The lamp shown below went to a woman who wants to make a Minecraft torch light for her son. I am super excited to see the finished product!
Also, a few rooms really took a hit during Christmas, and I need to get in there and just put everything back in order. We also plan to redo Wyatt’s room very soon – we have almost everything but the mattress! I am trying to find a good one in our budget and I put my dad on the job, consulting Consumer Reports for us. Lol.

Get my Unit Study Business Going
I started this before the holidays but then things got crazy with Wyatt and with the holidays that it got put on the backburner. I need to make sure I work on them at least once a week. My unit studies will focused on art and literature and experiential learning. I have two done, but so many more to go. Lol. My current project is the Monet in Winter unit that I am building while Wyatt and I actually work on it together this month, testing it all out.

And I am not going to make it to 10! I can make it to five though.
Podcast with Lisa from Boondock Ramblings
Lisa and I would love to start some sort of podcast/live, something, where we could sit and drink tea and chat together about books and movies and whatever else we come up with. We want to keep it positive, and you guessed it, comfy cozy. This is not its name or logo, but something I made as a placeholder, and a visual reminder that this is something I really want us to get off the ground this year.

And for now, that is enough, I think. Looking forward to reading what everyone else is up to!
I love these ideas. I’ve been walking more, too, since the start of the year. I have a pile of things that need to be sewn and mended. Thanks for sharing.

It is so good for you to walk! I need this rain to stop though, it’s breaking my stride. Sorry for that terrible pun. Lol.

I just do not have patience for hand sewing but I wish I did. I think it would be very relaxing.
The walks are such a good idea. I need to do the same. If only everything here wasn’t on a stinking hill. Lol. And the pig! I still crack up at it! In the town I used to live in, there was a donkey in the middle of town on one of the streets. It was so weird to see.
Dad’s and Consumer Reports. Have to love it. My parents buy us a subscription to it every year for Christmas. We save them so we can look back at them years later.
I like that as a possible name for the podcast really. It gives us somewhere to start at least.

Hand sewing is super relaxing. Once I decided it didn’t have to be perfect it is quite fun.
That pig is crazy. Seriously. I still can’t get over it. Walking hills would be more difficult! You would probably build some great endurance and strength though!

Oh, I love to embroider. When I was a kid, my mom, older sister, and I would embroider on Friday nights. I still have one of the pillowcases I embroidered. I’m guessing my mom did quite a bit of it because there are stitches on there I know I wasn’t very good at. I was just thinking the other day that I needed to embroider another tee shirt. It’s so relaxing to just let the creativity go. Have you ever done needle felting? My granddaughter used to do the 3-D type. I’ve got a kit that is more 2-D. I know you can actually do it on wool sweaters, too.
I didn’t realize you were creating units to sell! Way to go. You are so creative and put things together so well. I’m sure they will go like gangbusters! And, you and Lisa definitely need to start that podcast. I haven’t ever listened to one (and don’t even know how to find them), but I would listen to both of you. I think it would be so good!
Thanks for linking up for this 10 on the 10th. I need to start thinking about next month!

Marsha, I am so so so terrible at it. Like for real. But I enjoy sitting and doing it so I do. But I dare not show my work. LOL. It is so relaxing, and this may sound cheesy, but I feel like a connection to ancestral women, like it fulfills that primitive brain type stuff. Lol. I am also terrible at needle felting. If it uses some sort of fiber art, I am not good. But I keep trying and just sort of enjoy the process. We just have some crazy looking things around here when I am done. Lol.
I am!! Very very slowly. LOL. I have a Frida Kahlo unit and a Frogs unit, along with just some sight word cards that we call “Rocket Words”. Wyatt loved doing rocket words, and blasting off when he filled the rocket. https://www.etsy.com/shop/FoxandFirth?ref=dashboard-header One day I will have more, I swear it!
And a podcast would be so intimidating but also fun I think. And check out Spotify if you are interested in listening to some. They have them for everything!!

Great goals! I enjoy walking and hiking but just don’t do it by myself. My husband and I are going to set a goal for our walks together for the year, and I hope that will help. I love that you are making your own unit studies and publishing them! I homeschooled my kids (and have graduated them all) and we really liked doing unit studies. I’m not in the market any more, but I know people who are so I’ll share your etsy link!

That is awesome!! I love hearing from other homeschool moms! I love homeschooling my son so much, like way more than I had ever thought I could. It is so rewarding and special!
And thank you Kym! I am so slow at adding unit studies right now but I will get there!

It’s so hard to work it in there! My husband gets home so late sometimes, and I can’t always take Wyatt out into the weather. And I totally lied – cold rain, and this arctic chill, won’t walk in that either, I have found. LOL

What a great list of aspirations, Erin! I have always found hand sewing very relaxing and therapeutic as well. And I am not great at it either despite all the years I have been doing it. I need to get in the habit of taking walks as well. The only outdoor exercise I tend to get is cutting the grass or shoveling the snow so a relaxing walk might be a nice change. Your podcast sounds super fun! I hope you get it up and running and have a blast doing it.
