We finished our first week of school and I finished two books! I am not quite sure how that worked but it did! Lol. We took Friday off and went to Greenfield Village with my sister-in-law and Dino Girl so the kids could hang out before Dino Girl goes back to school this week. And..I also got glasses. So did Billy. We left Wyatt with my mom and went to our eye exams together, where we learned we both have perfect distance vision yet have some typical sight issues that occur with aging, or so we were told. Like when I have to hold things with small print at arms length to read it… Our glasses come in on the 17th and I am sort of excited. I have been getting headaches when I read for too long so it will be nice to read without it causing one. Our vision exam was sort of crazy! It was done by a remote technician. I felt like I was in the future. The tech who was there set me up in the room with the eye thing in front of my front of my face. There was a giant monitor on the wall, and a remote technician zoomed in and did the exam, switching things digitally. Then when she was done she sent it to the doctor, who also remoted in on the monitor to explain about the results. It was wild. But it also seemed super efficient.
Anyway, on to the book stuff.
Read Last Week:
Fire Keeper’s Daughter was excellent. It might be the best book I have read all year honestly. I loved it and am looking forward to reading more by this author. I also finished up The Running Hare, which I also loved. But I love John Lewis-Stempel and usually find zero faults with his books. Wyatt and I also started reading The Magic Tree House books last week, while Billy is listening to Six of Crows and The Bone Witch.
Reading This Week:

I started this a few weeks ago and then decided I wanted to keep it for September. I am weird sometimes. But now it is September and I am excited to start it! (again) I loved House of Salt and Sorrows so I am eager to read this one.
Posted Last Week:

I’m glad it was a good week! I have used readers but when I had an eye exam they said I might as well just use readers because overall my vision was still good. And I’m old. I just need them for reading and computer work. I hope they work well for you.

That’s great!! Yeah my vision was still good, I just need them for reading and computers too. And apparently checking the dose on the syringe of Wyatt’s meds too – I had to hold that a little further out to make sure it was right. Lol. I think I will get one of those things to hang them around my neck!

I think St. Mary’s Mead must have the highest homicide count in England — unless Midsomer tops it. Maybe it is IN Midsomer! Love the covers on all these books. All beautiful art! Happy week, Erin.

LOL!! They could have a deadly competition there between the two villages! Small British villages appear to be so dangerous.
Thanks Jeannie!

I didn’t enjoy the new Marple series. The actress creeps me out, but that’s probably because I’m used to Joan Hickson. I will probably give it another chance at some point. I’m really enjoying the House of Eliott but I do find myself talking to the screen too much. This morning Little Miss heard me say, “And the answer is no, she will not marry you because you are a creeper, Arthur.” I might be too invested.

LOL! I love that you think she is creepy. I can see that a bit. I could see her delivering ominous messages in a horror movie.
I will have to check that show out!

I’ve never heard of a remote eye exam before! My brother-in-law owns an optical shop… I’m going to ask him about this. He is behind the times! 😉
Congrats on getting through the first week of school. Big bonus points for finishing the books!

We were also unprepared for that when we got there! Lol. It was crazy. I guess effective though.
And thank you! We were both pretty exhausted by Friday night!

That remote exam sounds wild! And I can relate to the vision thing. I’ve noticed just in the last year or so my vision seems to have really changed, mainly for reading, so I have to use those reading glasses things now you can get at the store! Time to go in and get my contacts RX updated I guess!
Hope you have guys have a great Labor Day!

My kids devoured the Magic Treehouse series. When I worked in a bookstore at one time I would push these titles into parents of young kids who were looking for variety.
Glad you finished 2 books and had a good week. Here’s to another one!

We just finished the first book and we really liked it! I have been grabbing them when I see them from Little Free Libraries and garage sales lately – there are so many in the series lol! And thank you Rita!

I’m glad to hear such strong positive feelings about The Fire Keeper’s Daughter. I sure hope I can find The Running Hare, too.
I hope you and your son enjoy Magic Tree House books. They are such fun reads.
I wonder if the eye exam was specifically created in response to Covid or if it is just a new way of examining eyes.

I absolutely loved that book!
And we are really enjoying the Magic Tree House so far! We are on Mummies in the Morning… ooo.
I wondered that too!! I kind of think it might have been?

It’s time for me to go get my eyes checked again, I’ll probably need a new prescription. Now I’m
wondering if it will be a remote eye exam.
Have a great week!

The vision exam sounds crazy! I have horrible distance vision which has kept the arms length issue off a bit. My vision is actually improving a little as I get farsighted! I do need to make an appointment soon as I’m running out of contacts so now I’m really curious to see how they do the exam! I hope the glasses chase away the headaches and that you’re having a wonderful week!

That exam was so crazy lol. But effective and fast! I am anxious to get my glasses. Lol. I had to help my mom with some medical forms yesterday and I was straining to see the tiny print. LOL.

The cover of the Fire Keeper’s Daughter looks familiar so I am thinking I had it on a consideration list for my online book club at some point. I thought the book sounded really good. Glad to have that confirmed!!
Pinned it and your September read…another stunning cover. Always glad to find new books to consider.
I am reading Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe – making me very hungry with the talk of zucchini bread and blackbird pie. But the story is good too. Nothing terribly deep yet but sometimes that is refreshing.
