Top Ten Tuesday: How My Reading Habits Have Changed

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Hello everyone! Today’s prompt is about how my reading habits have changed through the years. I am not sure I will get to ten but we will see how I do!

First, probably the biggest change of all – the number of books I read a week. Before I had Wyatt, I could read 2 or 3 books a week. Now I am lucky if I can read 1! I would spend whole weekends reading all day sometimes.

Second, the amount of books I would buy for myself has changed as well since before and after motherhood. Now I buy way more books for Wyatt, and maybe one a month for myself. I always used the library like crazy, but now the majority of the books that I read come from the library first. Then if I love it I buy it or add it to my wishlist. I used to buy a lot more books for myself a month. I don’t mind though honestly, I feel like now when I do buy a book I appreciate it more.

What I read has changed through the years too. I used to read more fantasy, romantasy , historical fiction, and horror, while now I read more thriller, mystery, and middle grade. I still read every the other genres that I used to, but just less of those and more of others. I feel like I cycle through phases of reading and what I like to read. Does everyone do this?

Hmm what else..

Oh! I used to read right before bed, sometimes for hours. I can’t do that now, I will just fall asleep immediately!

I still take a book with me wherever I go – now though I usually have my book and Wyatt’s book too. He loves books just as much as I do.

I also listen to audiobooks occasionally now, which I never really did. I like to listen while I stitch or clean.

I have also started annotating and highlighting and underlining in my books. I have my little setup next to my bed, and have a highlighter and one of my favorite fine point cat pens in my purse, along with some book tag things for when I am out as well. I like to match the stickers to the cover too.

I loan my books out more freely now too. Before they were all my precious and now I feel like passing them on so others can read them is more important to me.

And I think that is it! How have your reading habits changed?

Top Ten Tuesday: Most Anticipated New Releases During the Second Half of 2024

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Hello everyone!! This week’s top ten Tuesday is all about which books I am most excited about that release in this second half of the year.

Somewhere Beyond the Sea || A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping

These are probably the two books I am the most excited about. I loved The House in the Cerulean Sea, and I loved The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches so these two cannot come out soon enough for me!

The Life Impossible || The Spellshop

I don’t have to wait too much long for The Spellshop, which this cover oh my gosh. I want to live in that house! I am hoping to read this one and The Honey Witch around the same time. The Life Impossible comes out in September and it just sounds so amazing. I am all about settings and the setting for this book gives me all the feels.

The Healing Season of Pottery || We’ll Prescribe You a Cat

Don’t these sound wonderful! I am all about Asian fiction right now, and both of these sound just so calm and like a warm safe place to visit. I can’t wait to curl up with both of these during the cold months.

The Teller of Small Fortunes || The Full Moon Coffee

And more books with cats on the cover! These two both have such a whimsy to them and I am all about whimsy. And cats. And coffee. And probably cozy little traveling caravans! I am so excited!

And that’s it. I can’t get to ten, although I am sure that after visiting everyone’s blogs today I will find quite a few more to add to this list!

Top Ten Tuesday – Bookish Wishes

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

This week’s prompt is: Bookish Wishes

Probably 99% of the books I read are from the library, but sometimes, I just want to have my own copy. Usually this is because it looks like a book that will really resonate with me, one that I will reread, and one that I will just be enchanted by for a long time. These are the books that have made that list of books that are currently on my wish list!

The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa || Jane of Lantern Hill by L. M. Montgomery || The Honey Witch by Sydney J. Shields

The Travelling Cat Chronicles – I have been super into Japanese fiction this year and this one just sounds wonderful.

Jane of Lantern Hill – I have been wanting to branch out into other Montgomery characters and books, besides the beloved Anne. Jane seems like a great place to start!

The Honey Witch – This one is just so pretty. Lol.

The Berry Pickers by Amanda Peters || The Pink Motel by Carol Ryrie Brink || English Pastoral by James Rebanks

The Berry Pickers – I am very intrigued by this book! I feel like it could be a slow read for me, one to really take my time with and digest. Same with English Pastoral, which reminds me of John Lewis-Stempel, who is one of my favorite authors.

The Pink Hotel – I collect Carol Ryrie Brink books and this one just really appeals to me! I love books set in motels and I love the kitschy look of this cover!

The Mermaid in the Millpond by Lucy Strange || A Tempest of Tea by Hafsah Faizal || Days at the Morisaki Bookshop by Satoshi Yagisawa

The Mermaid in the Millpond – The books by Lucy Strange are all beautiful looking and sound fantastic.

A Tempest of Tea – Ok, this is another one like The Honey Witch.

Days at the Morisaki Bookshop – Same as the Travelling Cat Chronicles. I am very interested in Japanese fiction right now.

The Frugal Wizard’s Handbook for Surviving Medieval England by Brandon Sanderson

Finally this Sanderson. I really loved Tress and want to read all of Sanderson’s Secret Projects/Cosmere books.

These are my top ten! Are any of these on your list?

Top Ten Tuesday – Unread Books On My Shelves I Want To Read Soon

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

Last week’s prompt about book characters we would want to vacation with was a lot of fun! This week’s prompt is about that old TBR we all have. I don’t have actual books waiting on shelves, as I don’t buy a lot of books for myself anymore – my book budget is mainly used on my son these days. But I do keep an actual written by hand list in my reading journal, which is what I used to make this post! Since there are tons of books on my list, I definitely paid more attention to the “want to read soon” part.

The Mermaid in the Millpond || Narrowboat Summer

Wildwood Magic || Under the Whispering Door

Gladwynn Grant Takes Center Stage || Flowers and Foul Play

The Travelling Cat Chronicles || Murder at the Mousetrap

This Wicked Fate || You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight

It’s kind of all over the place! Horror, YA, MG, cozy mysteries, magical realism, literary fiction, contemporary fiction.. it’s all here. This is actually a pretty good representation of all of my favorite genres!

Have you read any of these?
