Friday Morning Coffee Catch Up

Hello everyone!! I hope that you are all doing well! As for me, well I caught the cold that Billy and Wyatt had. Yay. Thanks for sharing guys. I’ve been laying low the past few days, trying to get that rest in. We canceled our Blackbirds Troop meeting last night and it hurt me to do it, but I didn’t feel well, Billy and I both have laryngitis, and we don’t want to share our germs with our friends for the holidays most importantly.

The Monday after Thanksgiving, Wyatt and I took a little road trip to my dad’s. We had a secret mission to get Billy’s Christmas present, and there is a store there that sells them – bonsai! I am telling Billy not to read this post too, I obviously don’t want to spoil the surprise. He has wanted one forever, and we found a great nursery called Green Witch Gardens. My dad and stepmom went with us, and my stepmom is babysitting the bonsai until I get it closer to Christmas. It is the coolest store, with a tortoise and cats and a ton of bonsai. However, they only had teeny ones or huge ones, and the huge ones were very pricey. So, Billy is getting a tiny baby bonsai. He will be happy though. Then I realized I needed to come home from our shopping trip with Shellie, that I told Billy we were doing, with something at least. So I picked up a teeny little baby cactus.

Two days later though, Wyatt was congested. No runny nose, just all in his head, I could hear it in his voice. Then a few days later, had a cough at night and that was it. Then Billy caught it, and he had the same. Now, my turn. Blah. I have drainage and laryngitis and it is no fun at all. I have way too much to do but I want to get this out of my system before Sunday so I am resting. Lol. Billy and Wyatt were doing much better after like four days so I am hoping I will too. And enough about this, blah!

Before all the sickness, or in between, we masked up and went to a local event at the River Raisin National Battlefield. It was so cool! It was called Echoes of a French Noel, and I thought there would be more Christmas stuff (there was none lol) but we still had a lot of fun. There were re-enactors, interactive displays, and a huge longhouse to walk through. They had a candle making station, which Wyatt really loved and it cracked me up that he was so excited over it but he is my child so it tracks, a cannon that we could load (obviously not a working one), madeline cookies which we love, and it was just really neat inside. We found an opportunity for our Blackbirds to try archery there, which I need to follow up on.

I of course had to look around the gift shop – they always have unique items and Christmas is coming! However, I was excited that they had a section of used books, and I bought two, and paid a total of $5.00 for them!

We then popped over to the Conservatory, one of my favorite shops in SE Michigan. I am usually successful at finding a plant as a gift for my MIL there, but this time they were low in stock. I will check back closer to the holiday to see if they restocked. It was super pretty though, decorated for the holidays. Wyatt kept telling me he was happy too, so that made me happy. We didn’t find anything for my MIL but we did buy another cactus. I am going to just blame homeschool for this new interest. Wyatt is learning about deserts and desert life, the things that live and grow there, and we did a whole section just on the Saguaro.

I mentioned that Wyatt is studying deserts and one thing that I thought make it more fun this December is filling out the paperwork to get another junior ranger badge online. We are doing the steps for the Sonoran Desert National Park junior range badge, and I was just going to skip over the nature center scavenger hunt, when I realized we had a lot of the items on the list here in our house.

Sunday morning I got up early and drove my friends and I through a winter weather advisory to the Annual Potter’s Market that we have been going to every year. I wore my mask and I am glad that I did, since my family is sick and I was maybe coming down with it. We all poked around, putting stuff in our baskets, taking it out, adding new things. I just love it, and we saw such cool items! I bought more tiny things. I am obsessed for some reason (I’m a goblin, that is why). I did buy a small turtle for Wyatt’s stocking, and I think he will like it.

I had a great time with Chrissy and Kelly. It is hard to carve out these moments but they are always special when we do.

Later that night, we watched Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas, and I wanted to make it seem happy and magical, so I rearranged things and changed the lighting and added some treats.

Then we had the rest of the week. Mainly all of us trying to not feel yucky, resting, and that sort of thing. I did make scones before I went down, and they are fantastic! I have been adding different family recipes or recipes that I have found and that turn out well to a journal and using it as a cookbook. This scone recipe is my stepmom’s and they are so good. Wyatt doesn’t usually eat baked goods, except cookies, and he loves these!

And that was the last interesting thing that I did this week. I am super bummed can you tell? I had so much fun planned! Now I just need to wait this out a bit but it is hard! Send me all your good healing vibes friends!

I hope that whatever you do today, you do something that makes you smile!

Comfy Cozy Cinema: A Knight’s Tale

Lisa from Boondock Ramblings and I are back to watching and sharing about comfy cozy (and sometimes, chilling) movies for the fall season. Feel free to join in with us!!

This week’s feature is A Knight’s Tale!

When Lisa told me her list of movies and I read this one on it, I was so excited. I love this movie so much! Billy and I have watched it countless times over the years, it is just such a fun movie!

First though, let me just say had he lived, I think Heath Ledger would have done such big things. He was already on his way, and had been in so many movies with so many amazing performances. Rest in Peace Heath.

This movie as summarized by Rotten Tomatoes: “Peasant-born William Thatcher (Heath Ledger) begins a quest to change his stars, win the heart of an exceedingly fair maiden (Shanynn Sossamon) and rock his medieval world. With the help of friends (Mark Addy, Paul Bettany, Alan Tudyk), he faces the ultimate test of medieval gallantry — tournament jousting — and tries to discover if he has the mettle to become a legend.”

“He’s blonde! He’s pissed! He’ll see you in the lists – Liechtenstein!”

Heath Ledger plays William Thatcher, who upon the death of the knight he was page for, assumes the role of a knight himself, with the very fun moniker of Sir Ulrich von Liechtenstein – which is highly entertaining to hear Paul Bettany, in his role as Chaucer, say. I remember being all nerdily excited about the whole Chaucer and Knight’s Tale when this came out. Lol.

William slowly begins to be a force to be reckoned with, and he collects his own court of misfits along the way. Kate the blacksmith, who I love, Paul Bettany as Chaucer who really did add so much excitement and build up to the jousts and the movie itself, Mark Addy as Roland, a more down to earth, sensible character within the coterie, and Alan Tudyk as Wat, who is fabulously funny in everything he is in. They are like a little medieval found family, and I love it.

There is of course romance, with William courting Lady Jocelyn, played by Shannyn Sossaman. (whatever happened to her?)

However, the best part of this movie is the music. I loved this era of introducing modern music into different eras, like all of Baz Luhrman’s Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge, and of course Knight’s Tale (not Luhrman, A Knight’s Tale was directed by Brian Helgeland). Them dancing to David Bowie was the best! It never fails to make me smile and bop along.

We of course have to have a villain, and Rufus Sewell as Count Adhemar was brilliant. You seriously hated him. Billy and I still like to deliver his line “You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found wanting” about certain things (not each other obviously). Sewell was so scheming and scathing, and smug, and just….creepy. He was sooo good at playing the bad guy.

But the best part of this movie was William Thatcher visiting his father. It brought a tear to my eyes, honestly. And that is another thing Billy and I say to each other as well, when we need a little inspiring – we tell each other we need to change our stars, just like William.

And that is what this movie is about deep down isn’t it? Once you remove the dance numbers and music and silliness, it is about hope and believing in yourself and believing things can change. And if you need something that makes you smile, makes you laugh, and gives you hope right now, A Knight’s Tale is the perfect movie for all of those.

And that is it from me today! Stay tuned – next week we are watching and talking about The Five Year Engagement!

Pop on over to Lisa’s post too! You can find it here! Today is Little Miss’s birthday so it will probably be up a little later!

Wednesday Morning Coffee Catch Up

Hello everyone! Happy midweek! Why do I feel like I have already lived an entire week already and it is only Wednesday morning? I must be tired this morning!

So if you caught my posts last week about Wyatt, you know we were in the hospital and kiddo had numerous tests due to some unexplained vomiting he was having. For Wyatt the biggest symptom he has when his shunt is malfunctioning is throwing up, so if he vomits more than once, we need to go to the ER. That all happened last week, and then even after being home this past week he has continued to have mornings where he throws up. I realized that there is a pattern, and it is always around the same time. It appears that on mornings Wyatt doesn’t eat enough for breakfast, his morning meds are making him sick. But it is super hard to convince a 9 year old to eat when they don’t want to, and while I explain to him why it is so important, I can only do so much. If anyone has any experience with medication and nausea, and has any other tips besides holding my child down and force feeding him (joke obviously) I would love to hear them! Right now we are having moderate success and it is interfering with school and therapy, not to mention I just hate him being sick.

However, there have been good moments! For one, I got to see the Northern Lights when they came far enough south on a cloudless night last Friday. It has always been one of my top bucket list items and I am so thankful to have seen them. The sky was a gorgeous shade of pink, and while I couldn’t see them perfectly due to light pollution I could see them better with the night mode camera setting on my phone (thanks Michigan Storm Chasers for this tip!) I didn’t get the most dramatic pictures but I could see them, and felt rather blessed to have been able to do so, even just a little.

Mother’s Day was a simple day but a very nice one. I slept in and Billy got up with Wyatt (who gets up with the dawn, I am not kidding lol) I had a tasty blueberry muffin for breakfast, and my guys gave me my gifts – a new copy of Watership Down for my collection and the cutest little custom made Lego, made to look like Wyatt. I love how this Lego Wyatt has a paintbrush in his hand with green paint – my favorite color and Wyatt’s favorite activity! There is a little wheelchair that is still on the way too. It is just the cutest little gift from Wyatt.

We met up with my own mom and my brother and his family, and my SIL’s mother for ice cream later that afternoon. It was a gorgeous day out! My brother and I took our mom for a drive while Billy and Wyatt went to Billy’s mom’s house. I just had Devin drop me off there after we dropped off our mom. The three of us had a nice drive. I had a delicious Cobb Salad for dinner, and we called it a night. Simple day, lovely day.

I have also been rolling along with getting our Cub Scout pack up and running. Billy and I had a meeting last night with the Executive Director and the Special Needs Coordinator over dinner and while I feel absolutely submerged in information, I can see it all coming together and I am very excited. And nervous, to be quite honest! I really want this to work out for Wyatt’s sake and for the other kids, and is a huge project on my heart right now.

We are also getting ready to take a month long break from school. We have already slowed down quite a bit, and then we will be taking all of June off. Wyatt has RicStar Music Camp in June, as well as a 48 hour EEG, and Billy will be working on the wheelchair ramp as well. It is just going to be a very busy month and it seems like a great place to take a break. We will pick up again after the 4th of July, school for about 6 weeks, then have a bit of a break at the end of August until the beginning of September – which is also when I am planning on actually starting our Scouts pack officially.

So that is where we are now in our lives. How are things with you?

(and now just some random photos from the camera roll)
