My Sunday-Monday Post

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date

Hello everyone! I hope you had a good week! We took it pretty easy around here last week, between the heat wave and just needing a slow down. It was nice to be summertime lazy with Wyatt.

We have been amassing books for his post-surgery recovery, and I feel like we have a good start! Wyatt is pretty into dragons now and his reading material reflects that… lol.

What I Am Reading:

This is my current slow read. I am reading it now, but I read nonfiction sooo slowly for some reason. So I am going to have to add in some fiction while I am reading it. I am really enjoying it, and learning a lot more about British books about Otters than I could have imagined, specifically Ring of Bright Water by Gavin Maxwell. I had never heard of this book or movie, but it is one of the books that Darlington read that formed her lifelong love of otters.

It also seems like the perfect time to start Pat of Silver Bush. I am looking forward to retreating into the world of L.M. Montgomery again.

Watching:

Billy and I finished season 1 of Yellowjackets and are pressing pause on it until fall. We are loving it though.

We have been watching Sirens with Kevin Bacon and Julianne Moore, and it is really good! I also love seeing the shots of the interior design in this show. Everything is like a visual feast. I loooove Simone’s bedroom, and I love Peter’s study. The interior also serves to reflect the secrets of the show, the tone, the weirdness. This article explains it a bit. Anyway, the cool coastal interiors are perfect for summer tv watching.

When we finish this up, I think we are going to start the new season of Dark Winds.

Wyatt’s been watching a lot of cartoons on Apple TV+ mainly Frog and Toad and Camp Snoopy. I have to admit I like when he watches these because I enjoy them too.

Online Things Happening:

Lisa from Boondock Ramblings and I are still hosting our Drop In Crafternoons once a month. Lisa and I have been hosting crafternoons for fellow bloggers on Zoom since January, and it has been so fun. It is nice to meet the person behind the blog, hear their voices, and share more stories – all while we work on whatever craft we choose! There is no right or wrong activity, you don’t even need to craft if you don’t want to. Just hang out, that is fine too! I need to update the dates for this – hopefully I get to that today.

I am also participating in 10, 15, 20 Books of Summer which is hosted by Emma over at Words and Peace, and Annabel at Annabookbel. I am glad that one of the “rules” is that we are allowed to switch up the books from our list at anytime, because I have already done that a few times since the beginning of June. I hope to post a few reviews this week! I went with 10 books but who knows? Maybe I will hit 15!

And that is it for me today! I hope that whatever you do today, that you do something that makes you smile!

    1. That would be awesome! I think Lisa said it will be the 19th? I need to double check. Lol. It will be 10 days after Wyatt’s surgery and Billy told me that I need to attend because it will be good for me. He is absolutely right, so I will be there too.

  1. Looks like you got some good books for post-surgery! Did you watch the Kevin Bacon show The Bondsman? I thought it was so good but then found out they didn’t renew it for another season. We had the crazy heat here this past week, but I think it is going to be slightly cooler this week, which will be a change for the 4th this year. Have a great week!

  2. It looks like a great stack of books for Wyatt! I have been reading my books for summer, but I haven’t gotten as many finished as I would like by this point. I think you were the one who mentioned Pat of Silver Bush recently, and I added it to my TBR pile, I didn’t know it existed before that. Have a great week!

    1. It probably was me! I have been talking about it for a few weeks now and I am finally getting to it. Lol. I’ve been trying to read more of Montgomery outside of her Anne books. I am reading so slow as well this summer. It’s just busy!

I didn’t realize you were only on the first season of Yellowjackets. It’s a wild ride, isn’t it? Did you ever watch Two and a Half Men? The main character was Rose, the crazy neighbor on Two and a Half Men! I loved her and really missed her when she left the show. It’s hard to imagine two completely different characters as these! I’ve been praying for you all and know you are anxiously awaiting July both to get it over with and to go through it. You, Billy, and Wyatt will continue to be in my prayers. I know things will be tough, but you will come through with such good things for Wyatt.

    1. Yes! We just started lol. It is so crazy. And I did not watch Two and a Half Men. I do love Melanie Lynskey though! She is great!! Her character… whoa.

Thank you Marsha. The closer it gets the harder it gets to breathe. Thank you for praying for us. I am trying to keep my mind thinking ahead, like to fall and what we will do. That helps me get through harder times, to look ahead past whatever it is. I appreciate your prayers.

I’m a very slow reader of nonfiction too and yet I collect a lot of it. I much prefer fiction. But that cover on Otter Country is so cute …. they’re interesting animals … whether sea otters or river otters. Good choice.

  5. I recall sobbing over Ring of Bright Water – but it is a lovely book:). I’m probably teaching you to suck eggs, but has Wyatt read the How To Train Your Dragon series? I think the books are so much better than the films – but if he’s already watched the films do warn him that the books are totally different. I absolutely love the books and have them all on audio with David Tennant reading them. I hope you have a great week:)).

    1. I am so glad that you said you cried over it!! Not because I am happy you cried, but I was wondering if it would make me sob. And it sounds like yes, yes it would. Lol. I will not add that one to the TBR even though it sounds really good.

Ohhhh I love the idea of listening to them!! We could listen while we do other things. That is a great suggestion!

      1. Yes… I read it way back when I didn’t mind sobbing over books – but like you, these days I try to avoid being unnecessarily miserable. And yes – listening to the How To Train Your Dragon series is so much fun.

  6. Where did you find The Pink Lady? That’s one I’ve been looking for but I think it was super expensive online. Looks like you are really stacked up. Our libraries don’t let us keep books very long so I can’t stock up with library books. I do have way too many other books that I already own that I haven’t read yet, though.

I read non-fiction very slow as well. I still haven’t finished that book on James Herriot I started in the beginning of the year. Maybe because it is suuuuuuuuppppper boring. lol

    1. My dad got it for me for my birthday! It was on Amazon. We can have books 9 weeks generally, unless it is a really high demand book. Then it is like 2 weeks!

      I read non-fiction so slow. 😦

Lololol! Maybe you shouldn’t worry about finishing it.

You’ve amassed quite the book stack for after Wyatt’s surgery! I’m going to look at them closer to see if there’s anything my grandson might like. Love that cover for Pat of Silver Bush and the interior for Sirens is so pretty! Crafternoons sounds like a lot of fun. It is nice to “meet” bloggers online and chat! We have such fun with Anne @Books of My Heart read-along chats we have each month. Have a wonderful week, Erin!

    1. Wyatt is all about dragons right now!

Sirens is such a pretty show. Lol. I am easily lost in the visual of a tv show or a movie, but this one has beautiful interiors and wardrobes.

Oh how fun!! It is really fun to do that isn’t it?

  8. I plan one getting Otter County. I love Otters and am going to a safari park that has some that you can hold. My son and I were there not long ago but I didn’t know you could hold them because no one was.

My great granddaughter’s shower theme was dragons and now she loves Dragons.

My daughter in law is terrified of frogs. The pond in our back yard where we lived for 27 years was full of those tiny green frogs. If it rained they would come into the yard. Her husband would have to carry her from/to the car because she would not touch the ground.

    1. You will really enjoy Otter Country I think. I am learning so much about otters! And I hope you get to hold one while you are there. That would be awesome!

Dragons are pretty cool, I agree with Wyatt and your great-granddaughter. Lol.

Oh my gosh!!! I love frogs but I would probably not like them all over the yard where they could be easily accidentally stepped on. That would freak me out!

  9. I was sad to miss June Crafternoon due to being forced to go to a party!! Hope to join again soon. I remember Ring of Bright Water being pretty brutal though I do like an otter – haven’t seen them in the wild but we have them at our local nature centre.

    1. Lol! We missed you there. It was a tough one for people to attend, it was actually just me and Lisa who were “there”. I am hoping to make July’s meetup, although Billy says he is making me do it, saying I will need a break from caretaking and he is probably right.

Oof everyone is saying that about Ring of Bright Water. And from what I read about it in Otter Country, I would probably be heartbroken and devastated. So I am staying away from that book. I get so invested and caught up in animal stories and cry for days. Otters are so darn cute and funny! I have not seen any in the wild but I love visiting them at our zoo.
