10 Books of Summer

10, 15, 20 Books of Summer is hosted by Emma over at Words and Peace, and Annabel at Annabookbel.

Annabel states the challenge over on her blog as:

  • The #20BooksofSummer2025 challenge runs from Sunday June 1st to Sunday August 31st
  • The first rule of 20 Books is that there are no real rules, other than signing up for 10, 15 or 20 books and trying to read from your TBR.
  • Pick your list in advance, or nominate a bookcase to read from, or pick at whim from your TBR.
  • If you do pick a list, you can change it at any time – swap books in/out.
  • Don’t get panicked at not reaching your target.
  • Just enjoy a summer of great reading and make a bit of space on your shelves!

I have been seeing this around in the blogging world and thought I would add a small list myself! I like the flexibility of this challenge, since I often make a list then change my mind halfway through.

Also, since my son is having a major surgery in July, I am not sure what to expect at all in terms of anything but taking care of him. I figured though I would aim small and see what happens! I will be reading him a few books while he is recovering, so I am including those as well on here.

First, my own reading choices. I am throwing a bunch out here to choose from.

And then for books I am thinking about reading to Wyatt – some are ones he has had on his shelf, a few are some books I am just throwing in there. I wanted to find some quiet gentle type books for when he is home and not feeling that great but not wanting to sleep either. He loves being read to so that is always a win to make him feel comforted and better.

I guess we will see where summer reading takes us this year!

  3. The Summer Book is great and Light Rains is in loads of short chapters so ideal for picking up and putting down. You might have seen my huuuuuge pile of hardbacks – a bit of a challenge in what is hopefully a quiet summer! Enjoy your reading!

  5. I love that Wyatt gets a 10 books of summer, too!!!! What a good mama to read to her boy. Even when I was an older child, perfectly able to read books myself, I would occasionally ask my mom to read to me. lol

    I’m curious about that Smiley Laundromat and the book with an Otter.

  6. So many of yours picks look great and I know very little about any of them. The Riley Sager book is on my TBR and I love the look and The Summer Book and Notes from a Summer Cottage. Enjoy your summer reading!

    I’ve got The God of the Woods on my list, too. It’s a book group selection, and I’ve heard great things about it, so I’m excited to get to it this summer.

    What a great way to have a reading challenge…no real rules so everybody wins! Our library is undergoing some major construction which means the parking lot is at half capacity. It also means you have to wind your way in. Most times I try that, I end up in the nursing home close by…a bad omen, perhaps? I just started a book of short mystery stories edited by Amor Towles. You may have recommended it. The thing is…it’s 825 pages long (at least on Libby)! So, I’ll be reading that for a bit.

    Erin, Your list looks very interesting. I want to read The God of the Woods (eventually). My husband and I have a copy of Light Rains Sometimes Fall but only my husband has read it. He liked it a lot. I read another book by the same author about a year of birding and it was good.

    1. I am so excited. The God of the Woods just came in for me from the library! I need to buy a copy of Light Rains. I usually read library books but that is not available from our system. Plus, it looks like one I would want to own anyway. 🙂

  12. I hope you are able to get to all these, plus more 😉 Aim big, right?! I hope that Wyatt’s surgery does smoothly, and his recovery as well. He might enjoy listening to The Phantom Tollbooth, it is such a great story.
