It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a terrific week! Ours had a lot of up and down moments, but we have made it to the weekend, and to Billy’s birthday which is today. We went out for a fancy brunch yesterday to celebrate at a Parisian-inspired brasserie named Le Supreme in Detroit and it was amazing!! I will share all the photos and a full write up later this week, but it was so much fun and so delicious.

I had really good reading week as well!

Read Last Week:

I was gifted a copy of The Blue Castle and I absolutely loved it! So many people told me that this was their favorite Montgomery book and while I have not read very many, I can say that I adored it. The nature writing alone made me sigh with happiness, and the plot of Valancy coming into her own was such a good story.

The Bewitching of Aveline Jones is a middle grade that was really well done. It actually sort of gave me the creeps in a part or two or three! This is the second in the series, and while I haven’t read the first it didn’t really matter. I wanted to read this one first since it takes place in the summer, while the first one is a fall read. I know, I am super weird.

Reading This Week:

These are the two I have lined up! I don’t know if I will get to them both however. Primer and Punishment looks so cute, and I LOVE a houseboat setting. When She Was Me I am reading as part of my own Spooky Summer Camp reading that I am doing this summer.

Book Reviews – The Berry Pickers

Watching:

We are boring with our viewing over here this summer – we just are totally binge watching The Great British Sewing Bee. We are trying to find the Pottery Throw Down for winter, because apparently we can’t get enough of British television.

And that is it from me today! I hope that you all have a wonderful week!

  1. Erin, based on your review I have asked the library to get me The Berry Pickers. Once I get it we can compare notes 🙂 I am fairly well donw the list though so it probably won’t be until Fall.

Sounds like a wonderful week for you!

    1. Thanks Deb!! I surprised him with the reservations there – he is a bit of Francophile. He loved it!

Yes! I admit, I have only read the first Anne of Green Gables, and now The Blue Castle, and I want to go on a bit of a wander through her other titles now. That would be a fun challenge!

  2. Oh gosh, I’ve never heard of The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery but I love her Anne books and I’m so intrigued now. I just set a hold on it from my library!

Also, Happy Birthday to Billy! I’m glad you had a great reading week. I hope this week will be another great one!

Happy birthday, Billy! A French patisserie…there was a time when I wouldn’t have known what that was. Thank you, Great British Baking Show! And, you will love the Great Pottery Throw Down. I think we watched it on Netflix. It just might be my favorite of them all. I think When She was Me sounds really good. I wanted some light reading so I’m reading Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood!

    Have a wonderful week, Erin!

    1. It was a wonderful brunch! And yes I have learned so much from the different British shows. My knowledge of sewing has grown a bit this summer from the Sewing Bee lol. I am excited to watch the Pottery Throw Down, especially since Billy’s mom is a potter!

LOL I love how In Cold Blood is light reading!

Both books you read last week are ones I really want to read and for the love of all things Canadian, I really should finally read some L. M. Montgomery! 😂😂
Also since I love the Great British Bake Off, I’m pretty sure I’d love both shows you mentioned too, I need to look them up! I need more crafty shows.

  5. Happy birthday to Billy! I love brunch. We used to go to a place in upstate New York, The Silo, every Mother’s Day. It was fabulous! I haven’t been for brunch since, but we often do it for family get togethers. I hope you have the best week.

  6. Happy birthday to Billy! The celebration sounds perfect. I’m so glad you loved The Blue Castle! You should try The Magic of Marigold (or something like that) too. I think you’d like it – oh and The Story Girl! Those are two of my other favorites by Montgomery that aren’t Anne. I enjoyed the Diane Kelly though in that one I did spend a lot of time worrying about the cat though at no point is he in peril. I hope you are having a wonderful week!

    1. Thank you Katherine!! Oh my gosh, I can see why you love The Blue Castle! It was perfect. I will have to try the other ones you mentioned as well!

And good to know that the cat is fine throughout. I get stressed about animals in books too!

Happy belated birthday to Billy! It sounds like a fun celebration. I really like the sound of The Bewitching of Aveline Jones and it sounds like something my daughter might enjoy. Primer and Punishment sounds good as well–like you, I find the houseboat setting appealing. I hope you had a good weekend and enjoy the week ahead!
