It was a week! Lol. That is about all I can say. Just a basic little week around here, with some good moments as well. Valentine’s Day, pulling Wyatt on a sled through the woods, planning his birthday (he will be 7 in two weeks! How is that possible!), his wheelchair evaluation and ordering, and a trip to the book store too. I have also been thinking about next year and our plans for school; we had a discussion about possibly sending him back but he is doing well here, and after his visit to his PMR doctor we decided to keep on homeschooling. She thinks and agrees he is thriving in the homeschool environment, and she supports us. We also talked about how it keeps his schedule flexible for appointments and therapies, which are also a huge part of our week. I am hoping that next year we will have more opportunities to socialize with other children and I will be looking into that as well. Having made the decision to keep on homeschooling, I started researching curriculum. I think I am going to change things up next year, and pick bits and pieces from different curriculum out there, and even write my own for literary arts next year. I want it to be literature based (obvioulsy) but includes lots of art and music and take us down lots of side trails, which you know we love. So, I guess it was a basic week but one with lots of big decisions being made as well!

I didn’t get as much time to read last week but when I did get the chance I really enjoyed this cozy by Mia Manansala! I am not quite finished yet but I will be soon.

Reading This Week:

I have a few contenders! I am not sure which will pique my interest the most so we will just have to see. These are the four staring at me from my shelf..

Watching and Listening:

All Creatures Great and Small and Around the World in 80 Days. We finished up Mr. and Mrs. Murder, and moved on to Agatha Raisin’s newest season, and we are giving Loch Ness a try too.

Saturday movie night and another Studio Ghibli! This week we watched When Marnie was There, and this one is my favorite so far! I saw in the credits that it is based on a book, so I will see if I can get the book too. In other Studio Ghibli news I saw that a Studio Ghibli theme park is opening in Japan! How cool would that be to visit? It is going to be very influenced by the nature and pastoral scenes from the movies, with more emphasis on natural spaces and trails – sounds perfect to me!

And our wake up songs! This week we listened to Start Me Up by the Rolling Stones, Sunshine on my Shoulders by John Denver, Fire and Rain by James Taylor, Kitty by The President of the United States, and Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana.

  2. I’m glad you are coming to some decisions about Wyatt’s schooling. These are tough decisions to make. I remember my sons’ first experiences with kindergarten in the public schools. It was a half day, so mornings they spent at school, learning how to get along with other kids, and afternoons we spent together, exploring and reading and playing. It really was a perfect time for all of us.

    Arsenic and Adobo looks like great fun. It’s been a while since I’ve read anything contemporary and light.

    I liked, but didn’t love Fox & I. It’s probably because I expected a lot, and it’s probably just me.

    1. That sounds like it was a perfect time for all of you!

      I am glad to know what we are doing next year. And I was happy to have the support of one of his main doctors. That made me feel more confident.

      It was a pretty fun read! It was sort of slow, but I liked the characters quite a bit!

      Hmm. I have to admit I expect a lot too. And I am afraid to start it because if it ends with the fox dying I will be a sobby mess and I hate that! Lol.

  4. Maybe I’d read Arsenic and Adobo when in the mood for a cozy. Looks good to me.
    I’ve wondered about the Karen White series for a couple of years.
    Have to admit, I had no idea what Studio Ghibli was until I looked at the link. It’s pretty cool, though I still would have to read more to figure out what it is.

As a public school educator who is getting really frustrated with this system, I wish there was a way I could work with home school kids but still be a librarian. 😦 I think it is great that you are able to do that and it works well for him. I know there are homeschool groups right, that you can join with so kids still get to socialize with other kids their age? Hope things are good for you this week!

    1. That sounds like it would be an ideal life, homeschooling but working as a librarian as well!

      There are groups around but with COVID and his health concerns we have been avoiding them for now. I am hoping this summer we can find something for him to do. My niece is the same age as Wyatt and he sees her, but it would be nice to expand his circle and his experiences. 🙂

  8. Your regular week was a busy one! I’m glad you’ve made the schooling decisions that will keep Wyatt thriving… and am always impressed with the quality/creativity of the lessons and activities you share here and on IG. Enjoy Arsenic and Adobo – it looks like a fun read!

    1. Aw thank you! I enjoy putting together ideas that will interest him and fit his learning style, and that he can really engage with hands on.

      Arsenic and Adobo was pretty good! It was a little slow in parts but now that I am finished I want to read more about these characters – always a good thing!

    1. I am so excited honestly. We have a great time homeschooling together. And it just made me feel so much better to have his doctor weigh in. 🙂

      I have the name wrong! It is The Loch, but it is a crime thriller set in Loch Ness, with of course mentions of the monster. It’s pretty good so far!

      Start Me Up was a great one! Lol.

  11. I’ll bet it feels good to have made the decision to continue with homeschooling. It sounds like Wyatt is really doing well with it and the flexibility for scheduling appointments is a huge plus.

    I love all of those wake-up tunes! I should start making a Spotify playlist of the ones you’ve mentioned. 🙂

  12. I can’t imagine the amount of work to do homeschooling. I think I’d enjoy some things and being able to plan field trips and other ways to learn the topics. But I get the part about therapy and appointments. I quit working when my daughter was in a wheelchair to get her through all the appointments.

    1. It is so much work. Lol. I spend a lot of the weekend and nights watching tv working on stuff for school. I try to make it fun for him and then I get all excited about it too, so it is worth it. 🙂 And I love watching his progress and excitement as well. But yeah, so much work. It does work so well with all of Wyatt’s appointments. He is about to add speech and OT back into the schedule as well and it is good when I can plan school around his weeks.

  14. I’m so glad you made a decision with Wyatt’s schooling! I agree that homeschooling really is the perfect fit with all the appointments you have going. I can’t imagine dealing with public school and Will’s issues and have been so glad we switched to homeschool. Good luck finding socializing opportunities. That can definitely be the trickiest part – especially right now. I’m a big fan of Build Your Library which is a secular Charlotte Mason curriculum. You have to add math and we supplement science pretty heavily but it has worked for us and you can get a lot of the books from the library which keeps the cost down. Have a wonderful week!

    1. I know! It is either schedule around school – which makes for a super long and tiring day for kiddo – or pull them out anyway? And then have to deal with attendance policies, etc make up work – no thank you. Lol. And yes, the pandemic is our biggest barrier to socializing right now! I am hoping that in a few months things stay on this downward plummet Michigan is experiencing and I can find something outside based. Lol.

      I will have to look at the Build Your Library – that sounds like something we would like.
