The past week was a very good one – full of reunions, playing outside, music, and learning. And tacos. We also had some fabulous tacos this week. Things we didn’t do – find tadpoles or go on a full moon walk, both of which were on our list. We absolutely just can’t find any tadpoles! We are going to make another go of it this week, but all of our vernal pools are bone dry this year. Billy has an idea of where to find some as a last ditch attempt – otherwise I am totally putting in a pond this year. The night of the full moon, Wyatt simply was tired so we postponed our walk until next month.

Read Last Week:

I didn’t finish either of these although I am enjoying them both! The Cottingley Secret is really good. I was also that kid who loved fairies as a kid, and also as a teenager – I totally grew up in the 80s and 90s, and in the 90s fairy stuff was everywhere! So this is a fun read. I had read about the Arthur Conan Doyle connection to fairies before so it is fun to read this fictionalized version of that whole fairy frenzy. I will continue to read them this week.

Book Review: The Nature of Witches

Watching and Listening:

Billy and I are fully engrossed in Shadow and Bone, it is so good! We are also watching Death in Paradise, which I think I might start a rewatch of soon. Wyatt is watching Wild Kratts still, and has dropped Peppa Pig for Nature Cat. (a better choice in my opinion!)

I am continuing to listen to podcasts – mostly true crime and nature pods. I listed to a great a podcast about Ursinology, a podcast all about bears, on Alie Ward’s Ologies, and it was one of my favorite episodes. As for true crime, I’ve been listening to Morbid and Crime Junkie lately. I finished up Your Own Backyard with Chris Lambert and was seriously impressed with the depth of his research and skill and sensitivity he displayed in that podcast. And, it just might have helped to solve the case.

Wyatt has discovered 80s music and also, Here Comes the Sun, his new favorite. Our house usually has some variation of Eric Church, The Dead South, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, 70s folk music, Sesame Street, A-Ha’s Take on Me, Here Comes the Sun, and Miranda Lambert playing at all times. It’s quite a mix.

Anyway, that is it from my corner of the world. Stay safe and well everyone!

    1. It was never one of my favorite Beatles songs but I have to say after hearing it a million times it has grown on me. LOL. I loved Strawberry Fields Forever and Blackbird. 🙂 They are all pretty good though. 🙂 And I am all about 70s folk music – that is my favorite!

  2. I watched a trailer of Shadow and Bone last night and put it on my to watch list. I’ve got so many series going, I need to finish one before I begin another. Here Comes the Sun is a great song for the season! Can’t wait until it is here all day. every day. Have a great week.

    1. I feel like we have a lot of tv series to watch too! Lol. We do the same thing, finish up one before beginning another.

      It is really good for spring in Michigan, I totally agree!! The line “It’s been a long cold lonely winter” I have never felt that as much as I did this spring!

  3. Omigod I am also LOVING Shadow and Bone!! I don’t think book readers have ever been so happy with an on-screen adaptation before!! Lol! So excited to finish it – just a couple more episodes to go!

    80’s music rules! Although I could do without one of my son’s current fixations – Boney M’s Rasputin – which has infected my house like an earworm thanks to Just Dance, lol.

    I need to find the time to watch Shadow and Bone soon… Actually, time isn’t my issue so much as my Marvel binge-watching, lol.

    1. LOL!! Ugh I love them. And I have given up trying to stop Wyatt from singing inappropriate words for the time being. I figure I waited so long for him to talk that I feel it will be confusing to tell him, well not that word. We will work on that later. LOL.

  8. We have not seen any tadpoles here either, and, believe you me, we’ve been looking closely at nature with the City Nature Challenge this weekend and Monday.

    Tacos sound great. I think I will put them on my list and make some soon.

    We still haven’t seen Shadow & Bone, but I am glad that so many people are enjoying it so much. My husband loves mysteries and he has seen some of Death in Paradise, but not all of it. I’ve not seen any of it, so we might give it a try.

    1. Aw that makes me sad! Is it a drought year by you as well? We’ve still got some time I guess but I was really hoping to see vernal pools full of life by now!

      My husband started listening to the Shadow and Bone series on Audible and he is enjoying the book as well. Neither of us have read anything by that author before. It will be interesting to watch the show then read the books. Lol.

  10. It sounds like you had a great week! It’s so nice to be able to see people again. 🙂 Arthur Conan Doyle and fairies?! No, don’t think, I’ve heard of that. It’s funny, since Holmes is one of the most rational and down to earth characters you can find in the literature.

    1. It really is!

      I have always thought it was strange too! But he was totally a believer in fairies, and that he had seen them. He wrote a book about it, I don’t remember the name though. It seems so at odds with how I would view him. Holmes would most definitely not be duped by it.

  11. It sounds like a really fun week. My daughter’s first concert, at a business conference I attended, was The Beach Boys. We got her a Greatest Hits CD which she played a lot and still has, 22 years later.

    Sounds like you have been keeping busy. Tacos are on my menu for tomorrow! My radio stations are set to the 60s but your mix sounds really eclectic and interesting too. Good luck finishing the two books you are reading. BTW I haven’t seen tadpoles since I was a child. I’m afraid nature means wood ticks to me which is really off-putting. Come see my week here.   17. My son went through a Wild Kratts phase and it was one I was sad to see go. Frustrating about the tadpoles but it sounds like you still had a nice week. I loved The Cottingley Secret! I have a book about the true story that inspired that book on my library list and am really looking forward to it! Hope you’re having a great week!
