Currently…April

It is time for Anne In Residence’s monthly Currently post where we answer one word prompts about different things we are doing and feeling. I always love the insight I gain from these, taking inventory of my own life. This month we are looking at what we are arranging, craving, discussing, enjoying, and preparing.

On with the show!

Arranging: Safe mini getaways for the summer, fall, and even next spring! My brother and I were texting all day the other day about a spring 2022 trip to Chincoteague Island with our families, our mother, and my sister-in-law’s mother. I even started looking at vacation rentals! We have a private campsite reserved already for June (the only campsite there, and on a vineyard!), and I hope to rent one of the “Getaway” cabins for August, then in the fall, a possible camping trip to northern Michigan.

Craving: Longer days, more sunshine, nights by the fire with family, outside get togethers with friends.

Discussing: small adventures, possible road trip field trips for next school year (already thinking that far ahead!), our plans for the next two rooms we are going to “refresh and redo” – our bedroom and the family room!

Enjoying: All the green growing things, from the plants I started from seeds indoors to the bulbs that I planted in the fall starting to bloom!

Preparing: Our garden beds! I hope that in two weeks we will have them all ready to go.

  1. Just look at all those plants!! Good for you! Doesn’t adventure planning feed the soul? I think you and I might be cut from a similar cloth in that department. While a Big Trip is certainly wonderful and memorable and all the things, planning any level of adventure, even our dozen mini-adventures we’ve taken the past year, have kept me nourished and grateful. Enjoy yours! And Chincoteague Isl–what a great idea.

    1. It does!! I love planning a bunch of little trips – and those one big trips too. But I agree, it is so fun to find little cool things to do and have little mini-adventures. I am learning so much about our state. Lol.

We took a family trip to Chincoteague as kids, and my brother and I always have talked about going back with our own families. I am really excited about it.

  3. Yay for safe mini-getaways! Spring/summer coming just makes it feel like the world has some more possibilities, even if we have to dream small to start… Will be perfectly happy just hanging out with extended family. And I just learned about these Getaway sites and they look AMAZING. I’m thinking babymoon weekend?!?!

Enjoy the spring, and the growing season 🙂

    1. I know, I am so excited to start planning things! Although, with Michigan right now, we might just be planning and not doing. Lol. Hopefully by fall we are in a better position, right? I am so happy to see my mom and brother these days. We are all almost vaccinated and are staying very tightly locked down, because of Wyatt’s health issues, so our bubble is so small. But after a year of just Wyatt, my husband, and I it is so amazing to be with family.

And yes! Those getaway sites are so cool!! I love how they are like camping – but with walls and a bathroom. LOL. That would be a perfect babymoon!

  4. So exciting that things are starting to open up again and you can start planning field trips and getaways.

Well done on growing those plants from seeds! I tried the same thing and did not have the same success! 🤣

    1. Thank you! I am usually ok with the seed starting – it is when I move them outside I fail. Lol. Cross your fingers for me!

And ugh – Michigan is a mess right now! I am being super optimistic. We will definitely be able to do our June camping trip because it is no-exposure to anyone, but as for the future – lets just keep praying!

  6. I see a lot of hope in your post! Hope that life will be back to some sort of normal soon. I love it! I’m planning a visit to see my parents in June. The last time I saw them was February 2020, right before the pandemic started. I remember talking about this darn coronavirus thing that was all over the news in California and no one in North Carolina knew what I was talking about. If only it could have stayed that way!

    1. Yes, I am trying so hard to be hopeful and optimistic – even as my state (Michigan) is on fire around me. And yes, me too!! I remember distinctly telling my friends at book club in February about it and them sort of poopooing me. I agree, if only it could have stayed that way!
