Currently… February

It is time for Anne In Residence’s monthly Currently post where we answer one word prompts about different things we are doing and feeling. I always love the insight I gain from these, taking inventory of my own life. Let’s begin!

Loving: All the plants right now. I read somewhere that plants make people happy and they really do! At least our house feels so cheery now with all of our green and life. I am also loving that so many people I love and care about have completed or at least started getting the vaccine. One of my best friends is a respiratory therapist who worked through one of the earliest hotspots and she has completed her vaccine, which makes me sigh with relief. My dad, my stepmom, my aunt and uncle have all begun the process. My mom is still waiting for her invite to get one. Hopefully soon! We are also really enjoying doing some redecorating in our rooms – it’s been a long time since we have and everything just feels happy and cozy!

Reading: I read so much non-fiction last month! This month I am going for a little bit lighter reads – this one looks so cute!

Wishlisting: I am always wishlisting stuff! I buy stuff without a second thought for the kiddo; for myself (unless it is a plant these days, but that is cheaper than therapy..) I wait. Right now my wishlist is full of art for our office redo and also a Lore t-shirt from the Etsy store JunipersDen. I am a patron of JuniperFox and all the animals that live within that sanctuary, and my favorite little werewolf looking fox Lore passed away last week. The shirt is on backorder right now but I have it on my list!

Remembering: My aunt Barbara. We had such a close relationship my whole life and I still can’t believe she is gone. I still reach for the phone to call her, I still hear her laugh. I miss her with my whole heart. Monday would have been her birthday; February 12 is the anniversary of her passing. I miss her and think about her all the time, but this month more so.

Sharing: Just recently, these groundhog cupcakes I made for Groundhog’s Day! I made a bunch and handed them out to my niece Dinogirl, the little neighbor girls, and my friend Kelly’s daughters. (and Kelly) I got the idea from Beauty in Ordinary Things. These were a lot of fun to make, but more fun to eat!

What about you? What have you been loving, reading, wishlisting, remembering, and sharing?

    1. Yes!!! I am so happy that you are getting your second shot today! That is fantastic!!!!! Will you be able to leave and go places once you get it? That is so exciting!!!!

And thank you! We are having fun adding in new touches and sprucing the rooms up. I guess after we have been in them all year we need a change. LOL.

  1. Okay, those cupcakes are adorable! I’ve never thought to mark Groundhog Day with anything, but in winter, and especially a pandemic-era winter, what a good idea to make an occasion out of whatever you can! Same goes for your cute heart decorations.

And I just added that book to my list recently too – looks really cute. I’ve been loving rom-coms and light romances for an escape lately. My recent fave that I breezed through was The Happy Ever After Playlist.

    1. Lol! Thank you! And this is the first time I have ever done anything for groundhog’s day lol – I think it is what you said, anything to make a party or special occasion over these days. 🙂 And thanks!

I will have to look that one up! It sounds good!

  2. While I want to devour so much in this post, I just can’t get over how inviting that delightful living room is! Between your plants, the windows/curtains/light/hearts, rug & wall color–so inviting! I’ll bet you’re enjoying it!

      1. I’d love to have indoor plants around, but having a toddler makes things like that trickier! So sorry to hear about your aunt passing. These anniversaries are hard even when a number of years have gone by. I pray that her memory is a comfort to you xx

Oh my goodness; those groundhog cupcakes are so cute!! This is the first time in a long time that I am managing to keep several house plants alive. I typically kill anything I try to grow.

  4. I haven’t gotten a COVID shot yet because I’m not in a group that qualifies. However, I am a part of the team at our County that has organized the largest vaccination clinic across the US. We beat Dodger Stadium! I completely feel your pain with losing a loved one. Winters are always hard for the elderly and a time we lose them. I lost my mom two years ago in January and her funeral date is just around the corner. I read/listened to too much non-fiction in January and need to change it up this month as well. Love your post!

What a cozy looking room, as attested to by the kitties. And the cupcakes are just too fun! It looks like you are embracing February already. COVID vaccinations are going pretty well around here, hubby who volunteers at Red Cross blood drives just finished his and I should be eligible in a couple of weeks they predict. I drove an older friend from church to get hers yesterday. She was really hem-hawing around not about the vaccine, but about the fact that she’s not comfortable driving downtown to get it. I wasn’t going to let that be an excuse – we are all in this together – and that’s the way to get through it.

  6. First off yay for vaccination!
Now lets talk plants. I am a plant junkie with two cats. I want to add a Fiddle Leaf Fig but I hear they will kill a cat. Have you had any experience with “toxic” plants and your cats? A lot of friends have said their cats could care less. Plants are my love language….well plants and getting out of dodge! Have a great Friday!

    1. Thanks!

So, everything I have read about Fiddle Leafs is that they are toxic to cats, but what I read is that it causes stomach distress, pain and burning in the mouth, drooling – not fun stuff but it didn’t mention that they would die. That was from the ASPCA, who lists it as mildly toxic. https://www.aspca.org/news/houseplant-safe-your-pets They have a great database on plants and how toxic they are to pets. I also really like to read the blog Leaf & Paw. Lots of good info there!

My cats do occasionally like to chew on my plants. I have one cat (actually not in the photo) who likes to eat the leaves of some of the plants and will throw up.I am unsure how he chooses which ones look tasty since he leaves most of them alone. Then my white fluffy cat in the photo likes to chomp on the leaves and I am pretty sure she does it to annoy me or get my attention to do something for her. LOL. She has left tiny teeth marks in my lower monstera leaves! My cats are all ten and up in age, so they might just be too old to really bother them as well. Not sure if they were younger if they would be worse about it.

And I love to talk about plants and cats! Good luck with yours!
