We had a quiet week around here, working on our projects, homeschooling, and not really a whole lot else. We made a big decision mid-week, to send Wyatt back to physical therapy starting in February, and I have been wrapping my head around it since then honestly. I probably won’t be comfortable with the decision ever at this point but we need to do it. He is so motivated and while I do ok homeschooling, I just can’t replace a physical therapist.
Read Last Week:
This book was so good – and so scary! Alex is one tough cookie. I was in amazement over his strength and the strength of his team, especially the group leader Dan, throughout this whole ordeal. I hope to post a mini-review with my thoughts sometime this week.
Reading This Week:
My mom and I are both reading Murder on the Orient Express, which is so good! I am also reading Wintering, A Season with Geese, starting this week as well. I am finding a haven in nonfiction right now that I am not in fiction.

What We’ve Been Up To This Week
Watching:
We started the new All Creatures Great and Small and it was all I had hoped it would be. Just watching the trailer gave me goosebumps, so I was super excited to watch it. I love the cast, I love just everything about it. I have loved this book series since I was a little girl, when my mom gave me the books for Christmas. I was like eight or so and while some of it was over my head I understood most of it and was charmed forever by farm life and James Herriot (Alf Wight). He was born in Sunderland, England, the same place as my grandfather, and almost year to the date after my grandfather. And lived in Glasgow, where my grandma’s family is from. His father worked in the shipyards, the same as my great-grandfather. And.. I digress. We also watched Wartime Farm (check it out on Absolute History YouTube), and finished up His Dark Materials. For our movie night we watched The Secret Garden, which was a visually stunning movie. It has been er, decades, since I read the book so I don’t remember much of the story, but I loved the movie.
And that is about it from here! Stay safe everyone.
The Twenty-Ninth Day sounds like such a good adventure story. What a cover. Wintering is a book I have on my list to read in the future.
I understand completely what you mean by finding solace in nonfiction. I didn’t enjoy much of the fiction I read last year. This year fiction seems to be going a little better so far, but I still seem to be reading a lot more nonfiction than fiction.
How wonderful that you have connections to All Creatures Great and Small. We are in season 3 of the old series, and we plan to keep going with it. Apparently there are ninety episodes of the old series. We are planning to jump into the new series, but we don’t know if we should keep going with the old or go ahead and start the new, too.

I love the cover for The Twenty-Ninth Day. The first part of the book was a tad slow, but still very interesting. Just a lot of canoe talk. 🙂
We loved the old version too. 🙂 Until they switched Helens! We always have a hard time when actors and actresses change. Lol.

Good news about the physical therapy for Wyatt. Have a great week! Here are my WEEKLY UPDATES

Physical therapy is necessary and I’m sure the therapist is really careful, I hope all goes well with Wyatt. Wintering looks good and I’ll start watching All creatures great and small in a few minutes. Have a great week, stay safe 🙂

It is so necessary and it has already been too long. His therapist has known him since he was a baby, so, we will just cross our fingers and pray and wear our masks. 🙂
And I hope you enjoyed the show!!

Glad to know you and your mom are both enjoying Murder on the Orient Express. I get what you’re saying about going back to PT. Appointments make me anxious but, as my husband says, these are medical people. They’re trained and following all safety precautions. Still, it’s nerve-wracking. Good luck!

Ugh it is so nerve wracking!!!! I am thinking they don’t have many kids going right now, as I had us put back on the wait list in September which is usually 400 kids long, and we were able to go back if we wanted this month. At least, I am hoping there are less kids. My husband keeps telling me to not be so anxious as well. 🙂 And there should technically not be any germy people there, with all the rules now. So..
It is fun to read the same book as my mom. We have never done it at the same time before.

I love Murder on the Orient Express, it’s such a good book!
I loved watch the original All Creatures Great and Small when I was little, I’ve not tried the new version yet but we have been watching the Yorkshire Vet which features a vet who trained under Herriot, it’s a lovely show.
Have a good week and stay safe.

I am really enjoying it so far!
I watched the older version at the start of the pandemic, so it was neat to be able to watch this new one almost a year later. 🙂 And Yorkshire Vet! I will have to look for that one.
You too Heather.

We started the new All Creatures Great and Small and it was all I had hoped it would be. — YASSSSS!!!! After the first episode ended I turned to my 93-yo mother and said “That was good, wasn’t it?” “Haven’t you ever seen that before???” she asked. Um….no? I thought it was new? And no I haven’t read the books, either.
I checked really quick to make sure the grizzly bear book is on my TBR and it is. I thought the title sounded familiar. Glad to hear it was good and scary.

Yay! I am so glad that you enjoyed it too! The older version is still really good but I love this new one. 🙂
It is so good!! I can’t believe it is a kid going through all that. I would have been like I want my mom! Lol.

I get it with the PT. We had to go back to the chiro and I’ve been suffering for not going for months. I’m still holding off on the dentist though. Stay well!

Yes! We are definitely picking and choosing his appointments (and ours!). He is going to PT in person, but video visits for his other specialists and the dentist and eye doctor are on hold for a bit still. This is so hard!
Stay well!

Good luck with the physical therapy. Decisions like that can be so hard- sending supportive vibes your way! I love the look of Wintering, too- there’s something about geese. And it’s always nice to read something or watch a show that resonates with genealogy or family background. Sounds neat!
Be well this week!

Thanks Greg!! It was so hard, and I am still reluctant but trying to be tough for him, since he needs it!
It is pretty cool, the almost connections. Lol.
Thanks Greg, you too!

Oh I love Murder on the Orient Express! Every time I read it I notice some new detail that I didn’t notice one of the many other times I read it. I can understand your hesitation about PT but I agree that there really is no replacement for in person PT and it makes so much of a difference. Hopefully it will feel safe and you’ll be as comfortable with it as you possibly can. We watched a few minutes of the first episode of All Creatures Great and Small and I loved what I saw but am looking forward to watching it all though it has made me want to reread the book and others by him that I never got to. Have a great week!

It is so needed. He wants to walk so badly, and we can only do so much to get him there ourselves. We need his PT. This is just so hard!
All Creatures Great and Small is so good! I am loving it.

I very seldom read nonfiction. I’m burying myself in fiction. But I am mostly reading mysteries and urban fantasy since contemporary fiction usually doesn’t provide the escape I’m craving. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

I have never read this much nonfiction in my life!! Lol. It is so weird what this pandemic is doing to all of our reading.

I understand your reservations about sending your son back to the physical therapist. It couldn’t have been an easy decision to make, but you have to do what is best for your son and your family. I hope it goes well for him and without any hitches.
I am glad to hear you enjoyed The Twenty-Ninth Day. That is a new one to me and sounds really good! It’s been so long since I read Murder on the Orient Express. I really want to make time to read and re-read some of my Christie novels at some point. It’s been so long it will be like re-reading the ones I’ve read for the first time.
I hope you have a great week!

It is definitely a scary but necessary decision. 😦 We have moved all of his other appointments but this is one we can no longer keep on hold. I am totally going to be a very worried mom though!
I enjoyed The Twenty-Ninth Day! Alex Messenger is so brave!

I’ve watched about the first episode and a half of All Creatures Great and Small. I’m enjoying it, but I’m just having trouble paying attention to any TV right now.
I understand why the decision to take your son back to physical therapy is a hard one. My son does OT, but fortunately we’ve been able to do it virtually since March.

I am feeling the same way about fiction books! I just can’t focus.
That is great!

I’m sure the physical therapist will be fine… They’ll have protocols in place and you’ll take your own precautions and hopefully, it’ll all be well. The benefit will be worth it, I’m sure.
I enjoyed the Secret Garden movie but I haven’t read the book. One day, I’d like to. I have no idea how similar they are. 🙂

Good luck with the PT; it’s sounds like it’ll all be positive since Wyatt is motivated. That show looks fun. I never read his books; I’ll have to check them out.
