It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date

Last week sort of went by in a blur. It’s funny how some weeks go by so slowly, and others fly by. I think last week seemed to go by so quickly because we were able to get some decent outside time in. We have been spending a chunk of our mornings and afternoons outside and it is wonderful! All that sunshine. We head back in during the heat of the day and do other projects then, but the mornings for sure are ours. We also shopped at a small farm over the weekend – Trillium Woods Farm near Lansing, MI. We placed an order online for different meats and then went to their drive-thru pick-up. I have always wanted to start supporting small farmers and this year I really am going to do better. Our own little plantings are doing well, our peanuts and radishes and carrots and beets are coming along!

Read Last Week:

I talked last week about how this book really resonated with me, and it really does. From start to finish, I devoured this book, and feel like I am on the right path for my child. Everyone has their own journey and I think this is part of ours, at least for now. I even joined the Wild and Free community online!

Reading This Week:

I am so excited to read this new RaeAnne Thayne book – it is just the right time for this summery type read. I am also looking forward to Honey and Venom – we are learning about bees this week and it seemed like a good time to start this one as well!

Homeschooling: Ladybug Week!

Watching:

So this week we have been watching Living the Dream, When Hope Calls, and Rosemary and Thyme. For our movie nights this week we tried watching Winchester until it scared me too much and we had to turn it off lol. Then Saturday we watched This Beautiful Fantastic – and I loved it so so much!! I see myself watching it many many more times. Can a movie become an instant favorite? If so, this is one. It is beautiful and if you love books or gardens or quirky or unlikely friendships this is the movie for you.

Stay Safe everyone.

  1. Gardening is such a wonderful activity. We participated in an online training for our naturalist group a few weeks ago that was about the positive effects of being outdoors. I was amazed to see all the studies which have been done on that. At least we have been able to be outside during all of this difficult time. I’m glad the book, Wild + Free, has resonated so well with you.

Several of our naturalist friends are beekeepers. I’ll have to share Honey and Venom with them.

I hope you have a good week.

    1. Yes, that makes it so much easier to handle. We would be crazy without being able to go outdoors. I was reading about the positive effects of morning sun and it is so crazy that it can be so powerful for your well-being!

So far I am enjoying Honey and Venom! I am not that far into it but so far so good. 🙂

  2. We enjoy getting out in the yard daily, even though it is getting hot now. But we have the great excuse of taking out Lulu. It doesn’t feel like we are staying home. We are fine here. I’ve had a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) and a farm box in MN and here in NC. I love going to the farmer’s market and will miss that this summer mostly.

    Stay safe and be well!

    1. Being able to get outside is making staying at home easier for sure. 🙂 I will have to look in to CSA boxes – I forgot about them when I was making plans this year! I wonder if it is too late? I guess I will see!

Stay safe and be well! 🙂

    1. It is so exciting to watch plants grow, as weird as that sounds! It’s like wow I started that and look at it now! 🙂 We watch Amazon Prime, Britbox, and Netflix. 🙂 Right now more Britbox than anything else, but the movie was on Prime. 🙂

  3. Last week did fly by! And yayy for small farmers/ co-ops. I want to find a place to buy locally raised meat as well. I need to get on that.

Call of the Wild and Free sounds like a wonderful book.

I am still watching Riverdale and I swear it’s getting more and more ridiculous lol- but I keep watching!

    1. Yes right! If there ever was a time to support small this is it. I am working on a list of different places to go for our area, so that we can have some go-to options. 🙂

Call of the Wild and Free is such a great book! I am excited to read more about that philosophy of homeschooling and living. 🙂

Haha sometimes you just can’t stop a train – and I watch stuff like that too. I loved Vampire Diaries and that show was so crazy.

  4. I had heard of Trillium Woods Farm but didn’t know they sourced their own meat. You’ll have to let me know how it was. I might have to order from there. It’s only about 15-20 minutes from my house! It sounds like a good day!

I’ll have to check out The Beautiful Fantastic!

    1. It was worth the hour drive for us! They raise their own beef, chicken, lamb, and pork, all organic and humanely raised. You can have it shipped to your house as well, but we chose to drive out there the first time at least to see the farm and meet the people as best we can in this time of social distancing. They had a drive up market where you order online and then pull up, and they bring you your order, all as contactless as possible. They have masks, we had masks. They were all very pleasant and helpful. We tried the ground beef last night and while I just started eating meat again after twenty years, my husband said it was very good. I can’t really tell the difference quite yet. Since you are so close, I would definitely encourage you to try them out! 🙂

And This Beautiful Fantastic is such a great movie! I think you would enjoy it!

    1. I love farmer’s markets usually but I am a little nervous this year. Our city one opens this week but I am going to skip it. 😦 It was neat to do a farm pick up! Someone mentioned a CSA to me, I am going to look into those as well. Although I will miss browsing around a market. And getting my almond croissants from the French bakery that sets up there!

  5. I’m in Michigan too. The weather being more pleasant has made a world of difference for us, and it’s finally our last week of school! That movie trailer was so intriguing – I need to go find the movie now! Thanks for sharing 🙂

    1. This weather has been amazing! I love these breezy days.

We are going to take a week off here and there, but we got a little behind – I didn’t start really emergency schooling him for a while, so we are playing catch up this summer. I just plan to loosen it up and make it a little less formal. 🙂

I loved that movie!!! So good. It is on Amazon Prime. 🙂
