It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date
Last week was back to school! I have to admit it was hard for me to even get up and moving – I had gotten used to our slow starts again. But we managed, although I did keep him home one day as he had hit his head the night before and I wanted to keep an eye on him. We ended up having an impromptu adventure that day so it worked out! I also had a few gatherings that were just for me! On Monday I met with my sister-in-law and we did some garden planning, and then Thursday my friends and I had dinner and drinks in an “igloo” at a local restaurant for our holiday book club. We had such a fantastic time! I laughed so much that night.
Read Last Week:
I have been reading an old favorite, Stitches in Time, here and there for two weeks now and finished it again the other night. And then I spotted The Bookshop on the Shore at the library and snatched it up- I love Jenny Colgan!! And this book might be my very favorite by her to date. I simply could not stop reading it, even reading way past my bedtime last night. I loved it. I was supposed to read Robin Carr’s new book but couldn’t get into it for some reason! I will try again soon, because I do love her books.
Reading This Week:
The Cozy Minimalist Home – I am so excited about this one because I like both cozy and minimalist – so it will be interesting to see how to combine these seemingly different styles! And then I have The Dilemma, which is a totally different read. I loved Paris’ book The Breakdown and I am looking forward to this one as well.
Posted Last Week:
Book Review: Alone in the Wild
Watching:
We finished up Lost in Space and have started His Dark Materials, which I am loving. We are also watching Season 3 of Anne with an E, which I also adore.
What about you all? What is going on in your neighborhood?
You had a busy and productive week. I think we should meet occasionally outside the library for our book club.
The bookshop books are always good reads. I hope to read one set in Paris when I leave on my trip in a few weeks.
Cozy Minimalist Home was helpful for me. At my time of life, I’m focusing on starting to pass things on, rather than acquire new things.
Have a lovely week!

We are friends first then a book club, so we usually have them at our homes, trading around. But it was nice to have a night out together! And it probably would be fun to meet outside the library sometimes! It might influence the conversation in a different direction!
I saw you are going to Paris! I am trying to squeeze in some comments really fast right now, so I might be popping by later or tomorrow, but how awesome!
I am loving it. Although I am now halfway through and want to just start getting to changing things in my house right this second. Lol.
Thanks!!

Impromptu adventures can be good! 🙂 And ugh I hear you on getting back to a normal schedule- I had a hard time adjusting after all the holiday time off! You can get used to that !!
Have a super week!

It was nice – all of it! The impromptu adventure, the lazy mornings – I could get so used to that. I guess only 6 more months until summer break? Lol.

I love Colgan’s books, too, and need to catch up, as I’ve missed several.
I also have The Dilemma, and can’t wait to read it. I like her other books, too.
Enjoy your week!

I keep finding older ones that I haven’t read! It’s like finding treasures. They are such comfort reads for me.
I liked The Breakdown but the first one freaked me out too much!

We were back to a normal routine last week too and it was a bit of a shock to the system after two weeks off for Christmas!
I haven’t started S2 of Lost in Space but will get to it at some point. It feels like Netflix dropped a load of new seasons/shows on us end of December and into January and I’m struggling to know where to start!
Hope you have a good week!

It was! I enjoyed the lazy mornings. Lol. I like our routine but it was pretty easy to start a new one…
I agree!! We were talking with my brother today about shows and he has watched ones on our list and vice versa. So many!

Ouch! I am glad your son is okay after hitting his head. I don’t blame you for wanting to keep an eye on him. It sounds like it worked out with a fun day. 🙂 I have only read one book by Colgan, and I loved it so much. I need to read more by her. I hope you are enjoying your current reads! Have a great week!

I am that nervous worrier hovering parent too. Lol.
I love her! Her books are so filled with great settings and characters and usually food too. Lol. And books!

I think you mention Jenny Coolgan before and I was going to check her out.
I rambled a bit about my week on the blog – fairly easy going since my son came down with a cold this week and now I feel like I might be getting it too.
I’m reading comfort books this week, including a Cat Who book.
I need to find a book club near me. There is one at our local library but a woman who annoys the poop out of me goes to it and I would prefer to avoid her. She’s one of those women who likes to give unsolicited opinions about everything in my life. Argh!

Also, I meant colgan. (Aside, Head hits always freak me out too … for personal reasons. I get so worried and watch the kids like a hawk now when it happens.)

I may have mentioned her – I think I remember suggesting her to you actually now. She is definitely a comfort read and while there is romance, I think there is more of a suggestion of sex scenes than the all out kind. If you know what I mean.
I get so freaked out by them!!! My son was born with two brain bleeds and has a shunt in his head, and so when he hits his head I lose my mind. I never liked them anyway and this sort of intensified it!

the brain bleeds sound so scary. I do not blame you at all about being frightened. I had an uncle fall down the stairs and go into a coma and die so I’m always watching my kids after they hit their heads and freak out if they play on the stairs .

Oh that is horrible! I am so sorry to hear that. And yes, I would definitely be the same way!!!

I will be popping over to your blog soon! Monday mornings are my catch up time. Lol.
Oh no, I hope you all feel better soon! I am so tired of the illness going around this winter. 😦
I feel like comfort books too – I think that is why I read Colgan and Michaels last week, they are comfort reads for me. January almost calls for them, especially if it has been stressful!
Our book club – we are really friends first who decided to have a book club. The book and reading part if pretty loose these days. But we are all readers so sometimes we just talk about the books we are reading instead of all reading the same book. It works and we get out for a night, one dedicated night a month, and sometimes I just can’t wait for it. Lol.

None of my friends really liked to read so I couldn’t have done that with them and now I’m sort of in between friendships. I need comfort books right now. Just NEED them.

I was glad to get back to a schedule this year for some reason. The Jenny Colgan book looks good, I will have to check it out. I just finished Virgin River on Netflix. Anne with An E sounds good, I may check that one out.

I love both Virgin River and Anne with an E. We are so close to the end of Anne, I am not sure what we will watch next!

Glad you only had to keep him home one day and that he was back to school the next. Lazy weekend somewhat here: Craft Night was Friday, yesterday I have no idea where it went, and I totally slept in today.

Yes me too! I was freaking out.
Lazy weekends are important! I think we all need them to recharge sometimes. 🙂 And Craft night sounds fun!

Cosy minimalist seems like a contradiction to me, I like the idea in theory though.
Wishing you a great reading week

Hahaha I know right!! I thought the same thing! But it makes sense as I read it. It appealed to me as I like minimalism, I do better with less stuff. Less to clean, and more time! But I also really like cozy too. The way it is described is you get rid of the stuff you don’t need or want, that doesn’t have a purpose, isn’t beautiful to you anymore, just visual clutter. Than once that is gone you add back in the things that make a room beautiful and cozy to you – warm blankets, rug, books, for me, bits of nature strewn all over, art, etc. I am not done reading yet though, and that is an extremely simplified explanation but I can see where the author is coming from. 🙂

I really want to try Colgan’s books! Is it better to read them in order? The Cozy Minimalist is also on my list. Getting back on a regular schedule is always tough!!

I love her!! She is such a comfort read for me. I want to move into those worlds sometimes honestly. Lol. I would say yes, especially this book. While this one is a separate story that is all about Zoe, three of the characters are pretty central to the plot and were the focus of another book all on their own. I would definitely read Bookshop on the Corner before reading this one. 🙂

Yes I loved that Jenny Colgan book and generally love her books. Give the latest Robyn Carr book another go, after you’ve read a few other books. It was good for me anyway.

I definitely will. I have enjoyed her other books, even in that series. I must not have been feeling it last week. 🙂

Sounds like some good books to kick off the year 🙂 And I agree – I don’t usually think of cozy and minimalist for the same space. I’ll be interested to hear what you think of the book. Thanks for posting!

I know right! Cozy and minimalist don’t seem to mesh, but her explanation makes perfect sense! I am loving it so far, but now I have a million ideas for my house…lol.

The return to school after the Christmas holidays always feels like the hardest to me, of all the school breaks, even the long summer one. It is nice to be back to routine though, I will say that.
I have yet to get to Jenny Colgan, even though I have heard such lovely things, and I am intrigued by the new B.A. Paris.
A happy week to you, reading & otherwise!

It did seem like a more difficult adjustment – maybe because we spent so much time together indoors? I don’t know. It is nice, things are starting to fall back into place, and I am getting back to my own routine at home even.
I do really enjoy her books! 🙂
A happy week to you as well Jade!
