It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date

Hey everyone! I hope you are all having a great end of December~ post holiday everything. I have been having a rough time to find time to blog, with kiddo being home on break and all the merrymaking that has been happening. We have been having such a great time, spending time with family and also taking some down time to just chill with each other. I had book club last week, which was fun as always to see my friends and touch base about what has been going on in their lives. Today we got together with my entire family, cousins and their kids, and just played and ate and laughed all day. It was just kids and toys everywhere honestly, and it was so fun. Tomorrow for New Years we are planning a pretty slow night – dinner with my brother and his family, maybe a drink, then home to our house for a quiet night in. New Years Day we are hoping to go out for breakfast then take a walk in the woods, depending on the weather.

What I’ve Been Reading:

Over Christmas I reread Farmer Boy – something about Christmas makes me think of Little House. And I also read Christmas at Little Beach Street Bakery – it was a treat to check back in with these characters!

Reading This Week:

I’m trying to hurry and finish A Court of Frost and Starlight before the year changes – we shall see how I do! And here I am, back at Anne of Green Gables. I have tried to read this twice and failed. Then I watched the tv show and loved it, and felt terrible I never read it. My husband gave me this beautiful copy for Christmas, knowing that I feel it is unfinished business – therefore, Anne of Green Gables is going to be my first read of 2019!

Not much! I did manage to finish my list of favorite books of 2018 though.

Watching:

We are busily watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which I fought against because I knew I wouldn’t like the stand up part too much, but visually, I knew I had to watch it. And it is a gorgeous show. We are also watching Top Chef, Agatha Raisin, Midnight Texas, and Riverdale. We are going to start The Ranch soon too.

What about all of you? What is going on? How are your holidays, if you celebrate? What book are you starting the year with?

  1. With the Anne book you just have to go with the quaintness of it, but I did enjoy a reread of it, I haven’t watched Anne with an E yet, but will, I loved the Canadian TV series of it some years back now. I need to read that Colgan book – I do enjoy her. Your family time sounds great, it is so good to get with extended family. Happy New Year.

    1. I have a hard time with her over the topness and drama – like Marilla at first! Lol. I feel like I watched Anne with an E and it helped me get over that, and now it is more endearing. 🙂 My husband and I both loved that series, although I did hear it is not like the book. I guess I will find out!

    1. I am such a Little House nut. Lol. I reread the series every winter, sometimes all at once, sometimes a book here or there. Farmer Boy is such a cool one, so different from the life Laura leads.

It was a very quiet New Years! It was fun though, pizza with my brother than we watched Jurassic World. Lol.

  2. Happy New Year and the coming days to you and “your boys”. You have some really fun reads and I am now curious about Anne, though I never read the books when I was younger (how did that happen?) I want to catch the show. I’m moving away from the typical gore of my books into quieter movies and books this year. Though I still enjoy a good mystery 🙂

    Enjoy!

    1. Thanks Rita! And it is so nice to hear from you again! 🙂

I never read them myself- I am not sure how it happened either! Lol. I did really like the show Anne with an E. I usually read quieter books in the winter too. 🙂 Although for some reason in January/February I am all about YA and urban fantasy and mystery and all sorts of things!

Farmer Boy is my favorite by Wilder. I loved all the descriptions of food. I haven’t tried Anne of Green Gables. I’m afraid the old-fashioned language would put me off. I hope you do enjoy it. Come see my week here. Happy reading and happy New Year!

    1. It’s such a good one! And yes! The food descriptions are amazing. I was actually thinking about choosing it as my book club pick for February, and making some of the food from the book. 🙂 I think it has some valid talking points even now, for adults, honestly, about independence and living off the land. Could be interesting!

Anne drove me nuts the first few times – she is so over the top and chatty! I kind of feel like Marilla did upon meeting her. Lol. Now that I watched the show I think I am more used to it, and find it sort of endearing. 🙂
