It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date
We finally had a nice relaxing week. Yay! I needed it. Today we went to the zoo with my brother and family, we had a great time. Wyatt loved the polar bears and the giraffes (whom he calls Gigi after his stuffed animal giraffe), while my niece L. loved the lions and zebras (my favorite too!) The zoo is in the process of building a brand new habitat for the red pandas and the tigers – I can’t wait to see what they do, as their new penguin habitat is amazing.
This week motown is gearing up to honor the passing of one of their own, with the funeral services of the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. This whole week in Detroit has viewings and and a free tribute concert in her honor and memory, with her funeral taking place on Friday. There is a plan to line the street with pink Cadillacs, as many as heed the call. It was a truly a sad day here in Detroit, when Franklin passed.
Read Last Week:
I loved both of these very different reads!! Dear Bob and Sue was a very entertaining read, and I feel inspired! Billy and I used to vacation all the time at the National Parks, but haven’t been for a while. Now, I just want to hit the road and start seeing as many as I can again. Do you have a favorite NP? So far, mine is Shenandoah.
Look for my full reviews this week! Also, I chickened out of I’ll Be Gone in the Dark. Just looking at the photos and imagining the last moments of these people had me teary and then later on, wide awake in bed. My true crime reading time in life might have come to an end.
Reading This Week:

The picture books are right next to the YA books in our library, so usually after getting Wyatt’s books, I wander over to see what I can find. I saw this one and remembered how I had wanted to read it, but like so many others, got knocked aside a few times. I decided now was the perfect time to read it. I am only like 20 pages in, but I am hooked!
Watching:
Sharp Objects – so freaking good!!!
We just started Castle Rock, and I am reserving judgement for now. I have high hopes – and it is cool to see so many faces from the movies, etc show up (like Sissy Spacek!)
How about you all? What have you been up to lately?
I am loving Sharp Objects, too, and I’m sad that tonight is the last night. Right? I am saving all the episodes on my DVR so that I can binge-watch it.
Have a great week, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

We are so excited to watch it! We didn’t watch it last night. I was wondering the same thing, is it the last episode? I am not ready. I might rewatch it all again too, it was so well done. I am definitely reading the book again too.

I like the looks of these covers. The zoo sounds fun. I have a bit of mixed feelings about the SF zoo although I love San Diego’s zoo and feel its climate is perfect for its occupants. The girls and I ran to the library and I paid the fine. I’m glad my little found a couple of books and the teenager has found another world in the teen section upstairs. I took a 2-hour nap right after we got back and feel better. The teen got to also which I’m glad.

Zoos are something I struggle with as well. I like the Detroit Zoo a lot, it was the first in the country to not have elephants since it is considered inhumane, unless they have the space that they need. But I have been to some where I want to rescue them all. 😦 We are planning a trip to the Columbus Zoo, to see the Jack Hanna stuff. I remember Jack Hanna from my childhood!
I am glad to hear that you feel better!

I haven’t been to the Detroit Zoo but I’ve heard it’s nice. Someone mentioned the polar bear exhibit as particularly impressive, unless I’m getting it mixed up with someplace else.
Hope Hazel Wood is good! I’m a little ambivalent about Castle Rock at this point…

It is a nice zoo, we go there so much. Lol. The polar bear exhibit is really cool, it is pretty large! You can go in underneath and wander through tunnels, and the polar bear is playing right above us or sitting on the tunnel. It’s pretty neat. Wyatt loves it. They are slowly updating all of their habitats. 🙂
Hazel Wood is really good! I am loving it.
Ugh, I was hoping for better reviews of CR. My brother isn’t interested in it either, after watching a few episodes. 😦

I have Dear Bob and Sue on my kindle and am reading it in small doses. We love the National Parks, too, and will hit a couple more in early October. My favorites so far are Rocky Mountain, Badlands, and Acadia.

Ooo Acadia is on the top of my list! I really would love to go there. It looks gorgeous. I have only been to a few so I’m eager to add more. 🙂
I thought Dear Bob and Sue was such a fun lighthearted read! I really enjoyed it. 🙂

I haven’t been to a zoo in years. I really should check out the one in my city. Nice looking books to. I might have abandoned the true crime one if it kept me up at night too. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

We live so close to our zoo, and with Wyatt it such an easy place to spend a few hours. We have a membership so that we don’t feel pressured to get everything done in a day, we can take our time and come back whenever. 🙂
Yeah, it scared me too much. I am a chicken these days.

I am planning on reading the Hazel Wood soon, either September or October. The cover for The Hackweed Legacy is amazing! I hadn’t heard of that. I’m kind of interested in I’ll Be Gone in the Dark… I got my B.S. degree in Criminal Justice Investigations and my husband’s degree is in Forensic Science. Neither of us ended up in those fields, but he still likes watching murder investigation shows, where I’ve become a much more anxiety prone wreck since having kids…. so I’m thinking it might be too much for me, too. I think we might have to give it a try though.

Lol I think that is what happened to me! I had a child and now I can’t read/watch stuff like that anymore. With I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, I was literally laying in bed at 3 am thinking, did I remember to relock the window? Lol.
The Hazel Wood so far is really good. I am loving it!!

I think one of my reviewers is reading Dear Bob and Sue. I kind of wanted to, but I just have so many books in my TBR pile right now. See what I read this month at Girl Who Reads

I understand that! 🙂 It was perfect and exactly what I needed to read when I did. Quick and lighthearted, informative as well.
