The Sunday Post/It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?

Check out the The Caffeinated Book Review for the Sunday Post
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading is hosted by Kathryn at Book Date
Hi guys! It is my first book post over here, rather than on Quixotic Magpie. I think it will be much easier to keep everything on the same page, if you will…
We just got back from a family vacation in Northern Michigan, one of my favorite places on Earth. Michigan is truly beautiful, with so many different landscapes. We had a great time and I have some of our adventures to share with you later this week!
We did have a slight hiccup when we got home though. My husband’s car caught fire as he was driving it through a construction zone on I-75 through Detroit. It was pretty terrifying to hear about, but he is completely fine. He is a quick thinker and managed to stop the car and get to safety. The car is gone but that is ok. The firefighters on the scene think it was an electrical fire that started somewhere.

On to the books!
Read Last Week:
These two books were delightful! I especially loved The Late Bloomers’ Club. I love a small town, and Guthrie was just the type I would love to live in.
Reading This Week:
As August starts to come to an end, I find myself being pulled in the direction of more fall reading. The weather here is still summer, but I am beginning to dream of autumn. I see the pumpkin beer and cider on the store shelves, the Halloween decor, the cooler nights, and I can’t wait! Fall is definitely my favorite season, and I am so looking forward to jeans and sweater weather.
I am really enjoying The Hawkweed Prophecy! I received the second book in the series as a review book, and checked this first one out from the library to read before I started it. And I love it. And Dear Bob and Sue is a pick for one of my online book clubs. I am looking forward to reading it – I am hoping for a A Walk in the Woods type feel!
Watching:
Insatiable which has a very 90s feel that I love, Red Oaks on Amazon Prime, Orange is the New Black, and the newest season of Death in Paradise. ( I love that show!)
How about you all? What has been going on with you?
Also, I don’t know why this post is all squished when I didn’t type it that way. Any ideas? Thanks!

  1. Ooh, sorry about the car fire; good that he got to safety!

I am dreaming of fall, too, but it is one of those impossible dreams for a while, anyway, as we see heat until October.

I have been noticing Insatiable on Netflix…and finished the sixth season of Orange Is the New Black.

I love checking out shows on Prime and Netflix, so I’ll be browsing again this week. Thanks for sharing, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

  2. Oh wow, fancy that happening to your husband’s car, I never knew such a thing could happen. But… he got out which is the best. I am going to look up The Late Bloomer’s Club, and see if I can get it to read.

  3. Oh my- that would be scary! Glad your husband is okay! You hear about that happening occasionally but to actually experience it must have been freaky. Glad you guys had a nice vacation though! Northern Michigan is so beautiful, totally agree.

I’m totally ready for autumn too, the cooler nights and the colors, the falling leaves, and spookier reads ha ha! And there are so many good shows right now- I just watched Impulse and it was amazing. And somebody was talking up Wentworth- I may try that one…

    1. It was such a horrible freak thing to happen. He was very upset about having to leave his coffee behind! Lol.

I love Northern Michigan, we had such a good time. I can’t wait to go back!

I am so ready for fall, and all those things too! Ok Summer, time to go! Lol. I have seen the Wentworth on there, maybe I should try it?

  5. How scary about the car fire! Dear Bob and Sue looks so cute! I love my national parks. 🙂 I am also so excited for fall, but in Tennessee it’s a long time coming haha. It stays pretty hot here until at least early October, but I’m so ready for sweaters and scarves!

  6. OMGosh! Car fire? How frightening! I’m glad your husband was able to escape without injurty. Hot damn. Never been to Michigan. Is it considered a part of the midwest? I’ve been horrid in attendance with the book club I had joined. I’ve been checking out so many books I didn’t want another to read and most of the time I don’t keep up on the choices so there are just long, hold lists for the selections.

  7. Thanks Stefanie! It was crazy!

Yes, Michigan is considered part of the Midwest but we are probably one of the more easternmost spots? I think Michigan and Ohio are the cut off. 🙂

I have to admit, I read my online book club books but I don’t participate. Lol. I like to see and read the suggestions though. I joined a few that are nature based reading for the recommendations on memoirs, etc that are outdoorsy. 🙂 The only book club I really go to is the one with my friends, and that is more a girls night out than book club. Lol.

  8. What a scary thing! I’m so glad your husband is okay. I’m going to check out Dear Bob and Sue and see if my sister might like it. She loves hiking and has been visiting a lot of the National Parks, so it might make a good Christmas gift for her.

Thank god he is ok. WOW, amazing. I haven’t had a car fire (knocks on wood) but how scary that must have been. I haven’t been to Michigan either but it’s on my list of places to go. Have a wonderful week!
